Re: Thinkpad P43S WQHD Panel Compatibility

Welcome stranger. :) Based on parts lookup of that machine type, 00NY679 is the WQHD panel for that model. Based on some cross-referencing of FRUs and MPNs of that panel, the WQHD panel in my T25/T480 FrankenPad, and the FHD panel for your machine type... the WQHD panels use a 40 pin, 4-lane eDP int...

OK. I will leave a note for myself to take a look tomorrow... feel free to send me a reminder if you don't hear back before the weekend; I'm going out of town Sunday so if what I have fits the bill, I'd rather try to get it out to you by Saturday.

I have a box full of old T61s for parts. Pretty sure I can snag one of these, but I will need to check to be sure it's what you need. ExpressCard/PCMCIA?

I do have a few OS's for A20m. I don't have anything for 380Z specifically but one of the sets I have for that machine's "cousins" may work. Take a look at my list in post 1 and let me know if you want to try anything.

Re: Considerations for using CF-IDE adapters

I have something like this in my X41T. The main thing is the CF card you use needing to report itself as a fixed disk, not removable; I tried upgrading to something bigger than the tiny 16GB CF card that was in it when I acquired it, and the 64GB SanDisk card I used did not work... Here's an article...

Re: T480 guts into T25

Thank you. The keyboard backlight does indeed work; it's activated with Fn+Space. I need to do a little more trimming around the power/USB-C/dock connector as the plastics from the T480 base cover that would normally fit into slots on the T480 top cover are keeping it from sealing flush. There's a s...

Re: why might I want an Ultrabay battery?

You can have multiple batteries and just swap out the ultrabay battery without needing to suspend the system first. Basically with a few of them, you can run the system all day. The T400/500 and T410/T510 as well as T420s/520s and T430s/530s use the slim ultrabay. The T420/520 and T430/530 use the u...

Re: T480 guts into T25

I finally went through with assembling mine. I bought the best spec'd T480 made, with the i7-8650U and nVidia MX150 dGPU and the WQHD display, 20L5000XUS, with the intent to do this to it. I tried using it a few times as it was but it never really felt right with the keyboard. Otherwise it was a fan...

Re: How to remove x31 Supervisor Password

Rather than displaying a juvenile sarcastic fuss about the board's rules, you should try to return the machine or get a [partial] refund for not-as-advertised, unless it was an as-is sale. You won't find info on hacking supervisor passwords here. Keep searching the web if you refuse to give up. Also...

Re: Corona-COVID-19 virus statistics and HOW is it affecting you.. what are you doing..?

My wife ordered a $750 ball-jointed doll and some accessories for her collection (she has dolls, I have ThinkPads) from Japan and it shipped out just before the weekend. Normally shipments via EMS from Japan arrive in 3-4 days; they are estimating it will arrive next Monday. DHL is the international...

This adapter will fit in the T60 but it has the beveled edge to match the T4x ultrabay. For the T60/T61, the flat bezel adapter PN should be 41U3148.

Re: What is the Magic Key Snap-on?

There's some method to the madness. Depending how the key came off, you need to take a variety of steps to reattach it properly. The base of the keyboard has some metal attachment points. This varies between keyboard manufacturers and model, but in general, there are "O" shaped holes and/or "L" shap...

How is it suspending? Is it going to S2/S3 (suspend to RAM) or S4 (suspend to disk/hibernate)? S4 will take longer to resume from (esp. if you add RAM) because of the need to access the disk.

Re: Battery life on T420

I can't say exactly how on Linux, but there should be a way to check the Watt-hour capacity and discharge rate of the battery. 6 cell or 9 cell?

You should be seeing 3-5 hours on a 6 cell and 4-7 hours on a 9 cell, for light-moderate use.

Why not? It allows use of more than one storage disk. Having distributed filesystems on separate buses increases overall R/W throughput compared to having it all go to a single disk.

I don't know if I've seen good data for this (to be fair, I haven't spent a ton of time looking ) but the lower the better is always a good place to start. It's hard to give a hard number that spans CPU generations because each has its own set of quirks. Higher clock speeds at full power always...

Re: Blu-ray reader or burner for T60 / T61 series

I'm inclined to agree. By the time Blu-ray (and HD-DVD) came to the scene, T60 was the new mainstream and the T61 was just on the horizon. The format(s) didn't really gain traction until the T61 was nearing the end of its service life, and by then the industry as a whole was switching fast to SATA f...

Re: Serial Ultrabyay Slim or Enhanced Blu Ray drive for T500, T530, or W530

I got both of mine from China. It takes a while to arrive but they work. The T410 and T400 both use the Serial Ultrabay Slim, but the T420 and T430 have Serial Ultrabay Enhanced which is a bit thicker. You can put the Slim drives in the Enhanced bay, but not vice-versa. There will be a gap under the...
