Re: Necessity of using the 170 watt charger? (SOLVED!)
I'm late to the party, but I did some testing with my W520 and its 170W adapter not long after I got it. Quoted below... Got the A/C adapter this afternoon and have been running the usual suite of tests and benchmarks on it as I would any "new" machine. As it turns out, it will draw about 150W from ...

Re: Unkown Device on R61 under Win7
Sometimes (as long as you are certain the driver is for the hardware in question) you can force Windows 7 to use an XP or 2000 driver successfully. You can try that to see if the device starts with that driver as well.

Go to the details tab inside the device properties in Device Manager, then select "Hardware IDs" from the dropdown menu. Google the vid_xxxx and pid_xxxx numbers to get you what it is. For example, based on your photo, ven_1180 dev_0592 is a Ricoh memory stick controller. Use the drivers found here:...

Re: Thinkpad 701c Battery Tray Measurements
The battery is about 7-15/16" long but there are some brackets at the outer edge for the trim bezel to attach to - not included in this measurement. Those protrude 5/32". It is 5/8" thick and 1-13/16" wide. "AA" size batteries are the perfect diameter to fit inside - though they are not long enough....

Re: SSD RAID - Why?
:-D I wanted to write that my RAID consists of 5 drives, not that it was RAID-5! To be honest I've forgotten which one it is.. but I remember that I have 5 drives 1/4 Tb each and overall usable size is 1Tb Sounds like it is indeed RAID 5. RAID 5 is 1 disk of distributed parity (RAID 6 is two), so y...

Re: SSD RAID - Why?
The only reason I would use RAID of any level (5, 6) with an SSD would be in a datacenter or an application with high response and throughput needs, with mission-critical data needing disk redundancy in case of failure. For consumers... I consider it marketing ploy for those who want numbers they ca...

Shoot me a PM with your preference to which recovery media you want to try.
These are all CD images, so you will need a USB ODD or UltraBase to do the restore as well as a few CD-Rs or CD-RW disks.

They were pretty scarce 5 years ago too, but I got lucky and found a source on ebay who had a cache of brand new ones, from whom I eventually bought 3 (busted 2 in the process of making it work though... ). Re: screw stuck by design?
It's probably just some extra stubborn thread locker. Once it cracks free it should come out relatively easily. The trick is getting a screwdriver with just the right fit, so you can get good contact on as much surface area in the screw head as possible to avoid stripping it. Unless the previous own...

Re: TP E15 2nd Gen Ryzen 4700u thoughts ?
IMO, going to an E series from a T series is a huge downgrade. If you are trying to stay in a budget, go for an L series instead. I have had my hands on just about every T, L and E series model since about 2015 and it the build quality on the E, as a consumer grade product, is very noticeably poorer...

Is the blinking rapid (several times per second) or only periodic (every few seconds)? If the former, then that means the battery internal circuitry has detected some kind of fault and now considers the cells unsafe to recharge.

The 14" 16:10 T61s have some of the worst TFT screens found on ThinkPads. They are all CCFL lit, and due to their age they are starting to yellow, which as you stated is very obvious compared to today's LED panels. I'm afraid there isn't much to be done about it. Color/gamma calibration is about the...

Yes, there's a little of everything involved. It's not difficult, but you need to take your time and be certain you're doing exactly what needs to be done. There is a trace to cut and a jumper wire to solder, IIRC - just be certain you're cutting the right trace and putting the jumper in the right p...
