Re: What's the best thinkpad I can get with a

Correct, the T60/61 supports the parallel/serial port Ultrabay adapter (if you can find one). I have one that I use with my T601F and it works well, however if I eject/remove it to use a different ultrabay device (e.g. DVD drive, HDD or 2nd battery), if I re-insert it, it won't be recognized until I...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

When LAN gets omitted on "thin" PCs it will be excused by telling us to carry around a USB-Ethernet adapter. Just another way to shave .04" off the thickness of a machine at the cost of needing to buy and carry around another accessory...

Re: T70 with Quad Core i7 mobo for T6x is coming!!

Just took a more in-depth look at this. I had a feigning interest (barred only by $$$$, as usual), but lost interest completely upon seeing a) Kaby Lake CPU (no Windows 7 support), and the Ultrabay doesn't have 2nd battery or serial/parallel I/O connector, both of which I use very regularly in my T6...

I remember servicing these after they had taken quite a beating in urban educational environments. They took the torture pretty well, all things considered, and we only retired the lot of them after they'd been abused for about 6 years.

Re: Ultrabay battery prevents main battery from charging?

In my experiences thus far on any of the models I have (20 series or older), the ultrabay battery will charge first. Once it's finished, the main battery will start charging. Are the charge thresholds set to fully charge both batteries in power manager? What's the charge of the primary battery at?

Re: Windows cannot find configservice.exe (System Update)

I'm not sure about Solution Center. Honestly I uninstall all the bloatware on these machines; the only preloaded stuff I keep is limited pretty much to Power Manager and the fingerprint software (if the machine has the scanner). Getting the BIOS version is easy. Just open up a command prompt and typ...

Ahh, memory management. I was going to refrain from commenting but do want to post some observations. I have no problem leaving my Windows machines on for months at a time; my W520 has been up (in active mode - not in standby or hibernation) for 64 days since its last reboot, and is using about 1/3 ...

Re: Are T430 batteries compatible with T420 and T410 models?

A T430 battery will work in a 20 or 10 series, but not the other way around. The 30 series looks for a special security chip in the battery which the 10 and 20 series batteries don't have.

Just about all the games I play are 2000 or older and all of them run just fine on my A31p with 98SE loaded. I've also had good luck on T4* series machines and XP, though some of the titles are a bit cranky in XP and need some massaging to work well. Any of the newer titles (up to about 2006-2007) r...

Re: Win 7 activation fails with OEM disks

Exactly - with a VB COA you've got SLIC2.0 in the BIOS, hence Windows 7's failure to activate seamlessly. I'm sure there's a SLIC 2.1 mod for the W500 - I found this: https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Lenovo-Thinkpad-T500-W500-3-22-3-24-SLIC-2-1-and-No-Whitelist which may be useful. Based on a ...

The BIOS probably doesn't have the SLIC2.1 code in it, which is what the OEM recovery disks activate against. Is the COA for Windows 7?

Re: T430: Any disadvantage to using mSATA SSD besides slightly slower OS launch?

I find having a large platter disk in the 2.5" bay and an mSATA disk for OS (and some programs) to be dreadfully convenient. Keeping all the large "unchanging" data on the platter disk where speed of access is of no concern (e.g. videos, photos or music) also serves an advantage of, by not taking up...

Yes. The computer is only going to draw as much current as it needs to satisfy its needs. The higher power PSU simply has a higher maximum current - the voltage is the same.

:??:

Either the stuff I found is bad info, or that part number is one that refers to both flavors and can't be used to determine GPU.

May be that the only way to find out is to ask the seller to snap an up-close pic of the GPU or provide the markings... or buy it. :)
