Re: LF: T6x/T4x DVD (Multi) Burner ...

I know I have one, but I think it's my only spare so I'm reluctant to let it go... :( On a different note, the T4x and T6x CD/DVD drives are the same, with the exception of the bezel, which is straight on the T6x but slightly beveled along the bottom on the T4x units. I believe they can be swapped a...

Re: Why does FedEx needs 168.00 CDN to ship a 0.3Kg 2" thick and 16" long?

I shipped something via FedEx once, and only once. Their up-front rate was slightly better than the others for my package (it was shipped domestically), maybe a dollar or two less than USPS or UPS. A week or so after delivery, they hit my account with a "fuel surcharge" that cost almost as much as t...

Re: A21 Turns on then off inmediatly

That I can't say, as I don't own either model I haven't done nearly as much research about this issue on them. But I can't say it's not possible. I'd say it's more likely on the A30 than the T30 because the T30 uses the Pentium 4, whereas all the 20 series and the A30 used one of the Pentium III fla...

Re: A21 Turns on then off inmediatly

If all else fails, something to keep in mind is many of the 20 series (A2x, T2x, X2x and TransNote) have a fairly well known motherboard design flaw around the implementation of the power circuit. There isn't a fix that I know of, aside from a known working motherboard. Some have suggested the sourc...

Re: T420 battery replacement

The originals were the 55+ (6 cell) and 55++. These will work in the T410/420 and T/W510/520. The later model, the 70+ and 70++ have a security chip which allows them to be used in the T430, T/W530. The 55+/++ doesn't work in the later model, the 70+/++ works in the earlier model.

Re: "Shipping Impossible: 'Wrong Side of the Pond'" [Non-US users?]

I once sold a T420 on here to someone in India. My experience was one that ended successfully, but it was a little dicey at times. It took them a month to get it to the end user, and only because they started to harass their local post office for the package. It had been sitting there for three week...

Re: T420 i5 v i7

The i7s have more cache and a higher clock, but otherwise don't offer anything over the i5 aside from bragging rights. There was never a quad core T420 of any flavor from the factory, so if you see one it was upgraded by a previous owner. I bought an i5 equipped T420 and upgraded its CPU to the i7 m...

Re: Visiting Akihabara - any especially good ThinkPad sources?

I was there for a few days at the end of October into November as well, although we only dropped by Akihabara twice for a couple hours each time; we were staying in Roppongi. Didn't see much in the way of old computers of any kind, unfortunately. Most of what I saw (that wasn't anime/manga/modeling ...

Re: T420 fan always on

If it's on in BIOS that's indicative of some sensor's reading being interpreted in such a way that the system thinks it needs to have the fan on. Aside from swapping out components with temperature sensors to see if the problem can be localized (only so much you can swap before you're left with the ...

I have a handful of Panasonic 9 cells I could install, should give you a 2-3 hour boost to runtime over the 6 cells (all the 6 cells are either Sanyo or LG - I would give you an LG). Does the fan start to run immediately after you power on the machine, or only after Windows boots? In TPFC, do any temperatures look abnormally high? Re: T530 series and above ??

From what I've seen the T530 and T540 have traditional removable batteries. The T550, 560 and 570 do have removable batteries, but there's also a second battery inside the system which is not deisigned to be removed (although it can be swapped out by disassembling the unit). I've not yet had my hand...

What's the operating system (if any)? PC Wizard (Windows) from CPUID can tell you the model of the panel, which you can look up online to find out if LED/CCFL.

Re: Ultimate T70 and ultimate T601: face to face

Nice observations and quantitative data. For my part, a small observation about the battery life/power section. :) The Watt hour (watts*hours) is an energy measurement of capacity, not drain (can theoretically deliver x Watts for 1 hour). Watts measure power, and amps measure current. Milli-Watts ar...

Re: T520 screen upgrade options

It's anything but a drop in replacement; there's cutting involved as well as the need to cement new standoffs/screw mounts into the lid to hold the screen in place. The only easy part of it is that the screen is electrically compatible with the system as-is, so there are no adapter/converter boards ...
