Re: So Who Actually Ordered?

I wonder what differences there are in packing? Mine arrived pretty well packed. There was of course the black box with the laptop inside it, which was inside a typical brown cardboard box decorated with ThinkPad 25 branding. That box was/is about 3 times the dimensions of the box with the laptop in...

Re: TP25 vs. t430s-classic-keyboard-mod first impressions

Yeah, I'll agree with your assessments. I don't notice the poor LCD quite as much but then again, I'll be frank and confess LCD quality hasn't ever jumped out at me except in the absolute best and worst of times. I too noticed the reduced key travel and esp. the trackpoint buttons. I've adapted quic...

What's your software of choice? I've got Premiere CS6 installed on it; I can also try something in VirtualDub (e.g. encoding to H.264 or XviD).

Re: So Who Actually Ordered?

I have a problem with the intel -u CPUS, as they suck at holding turbo clockspeeds as compared to H and HQ varient chips. At that price point, they really should have put a full featured chip in there. Since the TP25 has the larger cooler for the dGPU, Notebookcheck reports that the CPU runs at the...

FS: 08/09, nVidia safe T61 (14, 16:10)

Cleaning out the basement I found an 08/09 T61 with the NVS 140m in nearly perfect shape this morning. I cleaned it up and am looking to have it go to a new home that will appreciate it. Type 7665-CTO, fairly tepid by the standards of the day: T7300/2GB/100GB, FPR, WXGA. Middleton's BIOS flashed and...

Re: Practically unusable Google Maps on T60! Why?

Try disabling GPU acceleration in the web browser to see what happens. The X1400 is ancient by today's standards. Even my T601F, with a 3.1 GHz Core 2 and the NVS 140m (which is 2x as powerful as the X1400) is a bit sluggish in Maps... :(

Re: So Who Actually Ordered?

As such I respect all the comments and observations about "it doesn't have this", or "that part's old", or "I hate this", or "I can't work with that" in that sense. But some of this bandwagon bashing I've seen going on? That's not something I value. :) There are two separate issues at work here IMO...

Yes, I agree. This hinge design is probably the part I dislike about this model the most. And battery life vs. heat/power consumption is truly astonishing. True, it may leave a bit on the table as far as what *could* be bought today. But right now, it's the only real keyboard available on a device. That's the primary reason I ordered... Thinking about getting the 61++ 6 cell battery for it to supplement/replace the 3 cell it came with. Should add 4-6 h...

Re: To T25 or Frankenpad?

One thing I ought to point out is the huge desparity now in performance vs. battery life as something to also consider. My T601f has had a T9900 modded in, which is only about 60% as fast in single threaded operations as the i7-7500u in the T25 - from a multithreaded perspective, it's only about 40%...

I tried it with a 45W adapter that came with an E570 at one of my clients this morning, it ran fine when I booted it up. It had a full charge at the time though so I can't elaborate beyond that. Based on what's in Device Manager, it has an Intel 8265 dual band AC card as well as NFC, but I don't see...

Well, I think I'm gonna try a little experiment tomorrow/this week. I'll take my TP25 in to work with me and use it instead of my T601F and see how things go. Not because the T601F isn't up to the task, but because I want to see how going from the most universally respected king of the "true classic...

Congrats on your purchase! Do you remember what the estimated ship date was? My date is ten days out. Well, my TP25 arrived this afternoon, and I type this to you all here on it now. I'm actually pleasantly surprised. Aside from price, the only other factors would be power consumption and heat output. But if these aren't items of concern for you - with price being equal, go for the T7600.
