Bios issues in early I core Thinkpads are more than likely Intel ME related.

Re: ThinkPad T410 + i7 quad = possible?

With all that being said I would look for a T420 mainly because the Arandale runs hotter. Especially if it is to be used for more than just web browsing etc..

Yes agreed the 16:9 ratio is painful but using an external display can solve this issue to a degree.

Welcome to the Forum The T42 is a nice machine and with 2GB of ram it is capable of running Windows 7. If you want to free up some more space then you can stop System Restore and you can switch off Hibernation if you haven't already. Hibernation space on your root directory will be a file of at leas...

Re: Thinkpad Yoga X380 or L380 ?

Welcome to the Forum.

I believe the X370 without WWAN had one ram slot. I have had a quick look at one which seemed to have a good build despite being thin and light.

There should be reviews online and especially on youtube.

Earlier this year on Windows 7 some hardware was causing WIFI issues after updates and "KB4099950" was put out as a fix.

Might be worth a try if you haven't already.

Sounds like it could be a memory leak also. Maybe an update caused it. Google memory leak Windows 10.

Re: The definitive X301 SSD upgrade thread

Yes the adapter or converter board is smaller but we normally cable tie or tape the board to a piece of plastic so it doesn't flap around in the slot.

Also you will need a flap so to speak to make it easy to withdraw.

Good luck

Re: The definitive X301 SSD upgrade thread

The dual IDA mod with Throttle stop will give you an extra 200 MHz per core and keeping the system debloated and light will be your best options with the X301.

For the display if you can calibrate the display then you should find it tolerable.

Enjoy

From my experience 6 GB helps marginally but 8 GB is questionable and I tested my X301 with both. If you need 8 GB you are probably over extending your X301. I run 8 GB in my X220.

It's your machine and your money. Good luck

Re: The definitive X301 SSD upgrade thread

Assuming you are running a 64 bit OS the X301 will run fine with 4GB but if you want to increase the ram IMO 6GB is the sweet spot.

The core 2 duo systems are not quite as ram hungry as the Icore series which followed.

It is probably worth digitally activating your mobo for Windows 10 if you can do that without any monetary pain with your Windows 7 product key. After Windows 10 is activated you can still run Windows 7 because it is just a like a roll back to Windows 7 which I have done on most of my hardware. Prob...

For my X220 the trackpoint recently stopped working which I think might have been because of the Windows 7 August Updates.

Fortunately reinstalling the UNAV driver fixed mine. It could be worth a try for you. I didn't unistall the August Update either.

Have you tried turning off your antivirus and then connecting to the hotspot?

I have had a similar thing happen which I think was my Avast stopping the connection.

Your antivirus might be stopping this because you are using XP.

Unfortunately I think so. The T420s would be different to the T420 that you have. I don't have either but you have pulled the trigger too quickly I think.

For me TPFC is good for noisy fans in relatively low ambient conditions. I used TPFC on my T43's but for my X201 540M I just let the bios handle temps because my fan isn't noisy. I do use CoreTemp to keep an eye on Temp, Ram and CPU load. I find doing this my system runs cooler and I run my X201 wit...

The battery is in the front and can be almost unobtrusive so you can almost forget it's there on the X301.
