Re: Regarding Chinese Chip Hack

If you want to buy a P50 then just buy it and I think the risk is overblown, TBH Unless you are doing IT work for heads of government or military suppliers.

I think network hacking or surveillance is more of a threat and by all governments not just the Chinese.

Re: Laptop collectors: if you're allowed to collect just one laptop, which one would it be?

For me it would be my T42 , but as pointed out by "pianowizard" this doesn't include your workhorse laptops. It just happens my workhorse laptops are X220, X201, X301 and X61 so I would still have basically the same thinkpads. :D The A31 is OK but it is a bit bulky for my liking compared to the T42 ...

Fear and counter ideologies at war creates income for Oligarchs who back both sides and nurture kaos and security paranoia.

Governments and Media are controlled by these interests .

Slowly and seamlessly like boiling a frog in a fry-pan. Freedom, choice and privacy are only illusions.

Western Governments have stoked terrorism fears and security paranoia which has allowed them to bring in these draconian laws.

Media control has allowed this the happen seamlessly.

It won't stop me going back to New Zealand especially the south island.

In reality unfortunately this is what we have to put up with now when we travel. But saying that it would only occur in serious rare cases like terrorism or drug trafficking.

So i guess i need to reformat the drive right? And a standard win xp installation disk will do. I used the same xp disk on the compaq and the toshiba. Perhaps i should install win 7 instead. It depends on what you want out of the T42. To run Windows 7 you should have 2GB of ram and a GPU better tha...

Good job and I found this interesting.

Yes the X201 should run hotter and the battery tests are a surprise but it maybe attributed to the screens.

With all that being said I would look for a T420 mainly because the Arandale runs hotter. Especially if it is to be used for more than just web browsing etc..

Yes agreed the 16:9 ratio is painful but using an external display can solve this issue to a degree.

Welcome to the Forum.

I believe the X370 without WWAN had one ram slot. I have had a quick look at one which seemed to have a good build despite being thin and light.

There should be reviews online and especially on youtube.

Re: The definitive X301 SSD upgrade thread

Yes the adapter or converter board is smaller but we normally cable tie or tape the board to a piece of plastic so it doesn't flap around in the slot.

Also you will need a flap so to speak to make it easy to withdraw.

Good luck

Re: The definitive X301 SSD upgrade thread

The dual IDA mod with Throttle stop will give you an extra 200 MHz per core and keeping the system debloated and light will be your best options with the X301.

For the display if you can calibrate the display then you should find it tolerable.

Enjoy

From my experience 6 GB helps marginally but 8 GB is questionable and I tested my X301 with both. If you need 8 GB you are probably over extending your X301. I run 8 GB in my X220.

It's your machine and your money. Good luck

Re: The definitive X301 SSD upgrade thread

Assuming you are running a 64 bit OS the X301 will run fine with 4GB but if you want to increase the ram IMO 6GB is the sweet spot.

The core 2 duo systems are not quite as ram hungry as the Icore series which followed.

It is probably worth digitally activating your mobo for Windows 10 if you can do that without any monetary pain with your Windows 7 product key. After Windows 10 is activated you can still run Windows 7 because it is just a like a roll back to Windows 7 which I have done on most of my hardware. Prob...

For my X220 the trackpoint recently stopped working which I think might have been because of the Windows 7 August Updates.
