Re: In defense of the Thinkpad 25

To be fair, Lenovo/ThinkPad did make a serious effort for Thinkpad 25. I am glad some people think so At least the traditional 7-row keyboard had key backlight, so they did some redesigning... They also made it a touch screen which just screams "Retro" . We are truly blessed by Lenovo.

Re: In defense of the Thinkpad 25

It's pretty obvious this is their current position. It's our job to change it, approaching anyone inside Lenovo that can affect the position. Goodluck with that one although Lenovo people do follow these forums. You would probably have more impact voicing this on Reddit where the next generation of...

This is good but I will be holding off on these patches for now and hopefully Arandale might follow. This is probably being driven by Intel who are scrambling to retrieve some respect from the industry.

Interesting - have you tried removing your WLAN card to see if you get the same beeps? The security chip is still a mystery unfortunately.

Re: 'Kernel memory leaking' Intel processor design flaw forces Linux, Windows redesign

Without corresponding CPU microcode update (usually delivered via BIOS update) the patch is not fully activated. Call me naive but thank heavens - for now anyway. Target availability was postponed by 6 weeks now. Dear Intel, please get in shape  Between MS and Intel we see one calamity after ...

Re: 'Kernel memory leaking' Intel processor design flaw forces Linux, Windows redesign

I have updated the browsers for my machines - I am using Chrome with the isolation feature and I don't have Javascript activated by default. Also I have updated my Windows 7 with only the latest Security only updates and the latest updates are for NetFramework. But I am feeling "dr_st" is probably c...

Re: Lenovo CES 2018

Yes Lenovo are still producing the same crap we don't want especially in keyboards and display ratios. But with the latest kernel exploits the latest CPUs may still be vulnerable despite the Intel microcode updates. With this speculation buying a new PC today might not be the smartest move. I think ...

Intel will take a hit to its credibility and reputation over these latest exploits and it makes one wonder how long it has really known about these latest exploits. Leaving many current systems unpatched and exposed would only prolong and amplify the current sentiment. Intel should tidy up their own...

Re: 'Kernel memory leaking' Intel processor design flaw forces Linux, Windows redesign

No update for Sandy Bridge surprises me because they produced ME updates for Arandale about 6 months ago. Regardless I will patch my Windows 7 and still only run Javascript on trusted and necessary sites. Maybe some firewall rules for for add on utilities wouldn't go astray. For my Samsung Arandale ...

Re: 'Kernel memory leaking' Intel processor design flaw forces Linux, Windows redesign

Finding an exploit that arguably affects all computer hardware which can only be fixed by slowing down that hardware is potentially a huge boost to the computer industry. Apple eat your heart out this is how it is done. I wonder if the update to Windows 7 will be as efficient as the Windows 10 update.

Reports are that Academia and Google discovered the exploit.

Could this have been the partnership between IBM (Watson) and Google? Academia is a bit too obscure and general IMO.

Re: X201 hangs in BIOS, slow POST

The Arandale in the X201 is susceptible to ME problems and maybe this was because it was the first generation with the newer ME. If I enable mine in the BIOS I get the 4 or 5 beeps which repeats. I seem to get a slight battery drain when my laptop is shutdown and I don't know if this is attributable...

I believe it is not how many you own but how much it costs you to keep this hobby going. Also it should depend on what you can afford. Obviously this will vary because everyone is different. If you are spending around $200 per year you are OK but if you are spending $500 per year you might need to r...

For a core 2 duo I think 6 GB is plenty as they aren't as memory hungry as the I series. From Arandale on yes 8 GB is preferred. YMMV

An interesting review of the T25 in which David Churbuck writes a positive review without being overawed. He correctly states it has some "Retro" touches but it is just a Laptop.

Unfortunately we need to realise we are being watched and analysed and someone else owns the master key to our systems.

I personally think 4:3 is superior especially for 12 to 13 inch screens but I have probably been brainwashed to accept 16:10 now.

It annoys me though to see Macs using 16:10 but most others still persisting with 16:9.
