I am not sure how Windows knows (maybe MAC address) but make sure you have separate "system repair disks" for each system.

Re: T41 WPA2 issues?

Perfectly understandable not to run an antivirus. But I would install an older anti-malware program for occasional scans. On my Win 98 T41 I use SpyBot 1 and on my Xp systems I install Malware-bytes 2.2.0.1024. Even though my T41 and T42 don't connect to the internet the anti-malware programs are ha...

Re: T41 WPA2 issues?

Have you tried turning off your antivirus and then connecting to the hotspot?

I have had a similar thing happen which I think was my Avast stopping the connection.

Your antivirus might be stopping this because you are using XP.

Unfortunately I think so. The T420s would be different to the T420 that you have. I don't have either but you have pulled the trigger too quickly I think.

Re: X201s, to buy or not?

For me TPFC is good for noisy fans in relatively low ambient conditions. I used TPFC on my T43's but for my X201 540M I just let the bios handle temps because my fan isn't noisy. I do use CoreTemp to keep an eye on Temp, Ram and CPU load. I find doing this my system runs cooler and I run my X201 wit...

Re: X301, no backlight after cleaning up

The battery is in the front and can be almost unobtrusive so you can almost forget it's there on the X301. You sound like you have a power circuit issue but you might have another issue caused by your cleaning. I wonder if you have water in the keyboard. Maybe try to dry it out more to see if that h...

An X301 overheating is something I have never seen.

This is heaven compared to disassembling an old Tecra TE2100 I had an old Tecra which I originally purchased for my daughter and I went for the Toshiba because it was cheaper than a T42 at the time. The hinges broke on the Tecra and it was eventually scrapped. The thing we love about Thinkpads is t...

You should really state what OS you are running. You say you have tried high settings and I assume you mean for light touch as in Windows 7 software. I don't have a X230 and I don't know what OS you are running but I can confirm that my X61 trackpoint is faster at the highest settings compared to my...

What's wrong with eBay? Exactly! If you are buying off Ebay you should always try to buy from a shop or someone with a high rating. Last year I purchased a laptop HD which became slightly noisy about a week after I purchased it from an Ebay shop and they just refunded my costs which was 100% becaus...

I just pulled out my T42 and T41 from storage which are both in mint condition. They have the 7500 GPU and run amazingly cool. The T41 has Tiny XP and the T42 has XP SP3. I have never had a problem with the 7500 and anything more demanding I would run on my T43s. If you are going to buy something of...

I find a 12.5 inch screen at 16 x 9 a bit narrow but I use my X220 mainly docked at home with an external monitor. I picked up a dock and charger for $10 and I would recommend a similar setup if you are looking at any of the 12.5 inch ultraportables. And yes a X220 is definitely worth it. Docked I d...

I read about PWM when a relation of mine was looking at the Yoga 370 and the 380. My perception was PWM was probably more likely on the 380. When I saw the 370 I saw no signs of PWM at normal settings and no PWM problems have surfaced since. Is it possible to have PWM problems if you purchase a 370?...

I have had a quick look at the 370 because I helped a family member buy a new Yoga 370 about 6 months ago. I think there would be quite a few Windows 7 users who have disabled Updates already who can run SSE2 instruction sets just fine.

Thinking you are safer because you install offerings from MS may not always be the best policy especially as we approach EOL. YMMV

I have had a quick look at a Yoga 370 which is a 2017 model with a 13.3 inch screen. Apart from the Windows 10 it didn't look too bad. It seemed reasonably powered with a nice screen. It had 8 GB of ram which personally I think is plenty and it has removable ram but only 1 slot. 2018 models have sol...

Precisely how I feel although my latest is an X220 of which I have two to cover any hardware failures.

I suppose there are some good Thinkpads which are newer but they just don't do it for me.

Nice!

I have seen many T6X and T4X machines that have basically only sat on desks and these normally scrub up well.

Newer more mobile hardware that are thinner and lighter tend to get more cosmetic damage especially if they have been hauled around in shoulder bags.

"HEAVY" for a laptop on your lap is all relative. Once you have used something relatively light a T60 could feel heavy.

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you're having an issue where Windows 10 is having an issue with a driver after the Update. Or maybe it could be a microcode update that MS have pushed out. Many Tech sites are advising users to defer updates at this time until MS gets its act together but that ma...

Go for the 7260-AC as RBS suggested because the T61 will limit your speeds more than that Intel card.

The 2014 dated card will be fine in a Thinkpad made in 2007.
