Re: T40: What to do after XP EOL in April 2014?

Given that many businesses will continue to run XP after April 2014, I doubt Microsoft will just cease all support (their track record of putting out deficient software is the reason why businesses delay updating their OS). Let's see what happens in April but I wouldn't get too excited until then. ...

Re: IBM/Lenovo version of Windows XP for T41 Thinkpad

There are widespread problems with the update service for WinXP right now, coincidentally just a few months before it goes EOL. While there are some workarounds, I have found that the best course is to just install updates using the WSUS offline updater: http://www.wsusoffline.net/

Re: tp_smapi strange behaviour on Manjaro

Hey right on, yeah it looks like the X40 is listed as having a functional stop_charge_thresh with tp-smapi, must have been a quirk with manjaro or something. You're right about Debian, I'm pretty happy with the way mine is runnin on it (using LXDE as my DE).

Re: tp_smapi strange behaviour on Manjaro

Hi Neil, what model is it? I am experiencing the same thing from my T42, which I unfortunately expected. According to the wiki , some models don't have a working stop_charge_thresh under Linux. I have tried echoing a value anyway, which of course fails. I'm using Debian/LXDE BTW. There does appear t...

Did new T4x units require XP activation? [SOLVED]

Hi all, I'm wondering about what the original owner experienced when he would first turn on his Thinkpad. Was there a requirement to activate Windows XP, or were these machines delivered pre-activated?

Re: How to determine WLAN type? [Solved]

Thanks guys. I've been poking around and found this manual for older thinkpads, and it listed the WLAN type: http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/ltwbook.pdf

I like the suggestion of the linux CD too, which I will probably do to verify this information.

How to determine WLAN type? [Solved]

Hello, I recently purchased a T42 to play around with, and while I am waiting for it to be shipped, I am gathering up the various drivers I will need to install the OS. The Lenovo page for driver downloads lists six possible drivers for my box, depending on the type of wireless interface it contains...
