Clone from one T420 to another?
I have two T420 laptops. Can I clone the hard drive from one to use on the other? The only difference between the two is the sizes of the secondary hard drives. I guess what I'm asking is what are the critical components that need to be the same? The definitely both have the same CPU models. Not sur...

Re: E430-Error Message for Lenovo Solutions for Small Business
Is it not risky to keep using W7? I dual boot Manjaro and W8.1. 8.1 seemed the best alternative to W10/11 once W7 was no longer supported. Think I'd prefer W7 though.

T420 Coreboot difficulty?
Looking for something to do and was thinking about Coreboot. I have 2 T420 laptops I use daily (1 other in reserve). I bought the items necessary for Coreboot (Pomona SOIC8, CH341A and female to female header cables). To my horror though it seems to get access to the T420 BIOS chip you have to strip...

Slower booting
I have a T420 with Manjaro and Windows 8.1 dual booting from a mSata. I have a SSD I use for file storage in the regular hard drive position. Today I replaced the optical drive with a 2TB HDD (not SSD). I notice unfortunately that it takes an extra 6 or 7 seconds to get to the Manjaro login. Seems l...

Fan suddenly very noisy
Had my T420 a few years with no problems. Now when I start the laptop and whenever the fan needs to work it sounds like an engine inside. No other problems using the machine. There's no slowdown in performance. I've just tried using compressed air on the fan and the vents but it hasn't helped. Would...

Guys I've updated to Windows 8.1 on my T420. However I can't find a driver for the media card reader. Re: Triple boot?
That's why I like old machines with Ultrabays. If you want to switch between different versions of Windows or Linux, it makes life a lot easier. Old thread but something brought me back to this topic. I have a T420 with a DVD rom ultrabay. Are there any recommendations for setting up for switching ...

Did you mean something else when you said webcam? I reckon you meant the led panel...anyway my X220 doesn't have a webcam. Here's where I put the little thingies in the end:

I have a X220 with a 64GB mSata and a 500GB 2.5" SSD. Ideally I'd like to have Ubuntu 18.04 and Windows 7 alongside each other on the SSD. But I'd like to have CloudReady/ChromeOS on the 64GB mSata. I removed the mSATA temporarily and installed Win 7 on the SSD. Then I removed the SSD and installed ...

matching hard drive to a t420
Bought two T420 machines some time ago. Immediately took out the old hard drives and replaced them with SSDs. I'm selling the Thinkpads now but can't remember which hard drive is for which T420. There's Windows product keys under the batteries but when I booted up with the old drive ProduKey found n...

Thanks guys. I think the Full HD kit requires soldering yes? So that's me out. Think I'll try the LP125WH2-SLT1 screen then since it's recommended by that user "RealBlackStuff" and he's pretty much a legend on this forum!

newbie x220 screen upgrade
Can I do an upgrade to the X220 screen I have? My current screen is a LP125WH2SLB1 (FRU 04W3462). I've been Googling around and just cannot get a grip on what screen, if any, would be an improvement. So many different model numbers.
Could someone dumb it down for me please?

Yeah I've been searching this sub forum and I think the post I saw was for the x301. Anyway I don't suppose the X220 would be more energy efficient and lighter with regard to portability with the mSata in the drive bay?

mSata adapter
Whilst searching these forums for something else I thought I came across a thread on mSata adapters and the X220. Now I have an mSata in the slot under the keyboard but is there an advantage to using a mSata and adapter in the primary 2.5" drive bay? At the moment I have a regular SSD in there. Just...

No status indicators
Just received another T420 I purchased on eBay. It's working fine but for a few problems. The wifi and hdd status indicators do not work. The system does not detect it when I close the lid. The little light that should come on overhead the screen (Fn + PgUp) doesn't come on. The battery indicators o...

lol I can't see this fixing itself. It's not charging the battery, reporting a false percentage and when I disconnect the AC the light continues flashing even with the laptop turned off!!! And what's more I had the T410 up for sale. Luckily I found the problem before selling it to someone.

new T410 LGC battery - orange light
I bought a brand new LGC battery for my T410 some months back. From a reputable seller on eBay. Used the laptop yesterday evening and completely discharged the battery. Unusual for me as I normally use them on AC power. Now I can't get it to recharge. It's stuck on that darned orange light. The batt...

I see your point. I was kind of trying to be a purist and get authentic Lenovo stuff but perhaps I'm taking it too far. I actually did try one hardware store for the spring but they didn't have compression springs at all.

Suspend problem on T420
I have two T420 laptops. The newer one, without a fingerprint reader thingy, can suspend without any problems in Ubuntu. The older T420, that has a fingerprint reader, also running Ubuntu just won't suspend. The screen goes black but then suddenly comes back and I'm at the lock screen. Can't underst...
