Re: Fast Recommendations . .

The X220T I recently got in the UK cost just over 100 UK Pounds. It came with 4GB ram and a 500GB disk. I'd have thought that a non-T X220 in the US without HD ought to be in the $100 price range. Now I've fitted the mSATA boot disk, it is really fast and I'm delighted with it. The mSATA does mean g...

Re: X201 and a virus warning message

Thanks, yes I think it is a false positive. There is discussion in which AVG reps apologise for a bad update that produced this effect. I have updated AVG and run a virus scan, which came out clean. I assume the two almost identical programdata directories are the result of AVG's workings in prepari...

X201 and a virus warning message

I've not used my X201 for a few days, but fired it up this morning and left it sitting there while I got on with other things. The machine is running 64-bit Windows 10. When I picked it up this evening , a message from AVG popped up saying it had blocked a threat "IDP.ALEXA.51" in the C:\programdata...

Re: Is the x220 worth getting in 2018?

Just thought it worth saying here that I've now had my X220T for just about a month. I posted elsewhere here about the initial problems with ram and screen rotation, but those are cured now, and it is becoming my main general purpose machine. I have now fitted the 240GB msata boot drive and a 1TB D:...

Re: Moving from X200T to X220T

To answer myself, that worked. I cloned, rather than imaged the C: and system partitions and changed the boot in bios. It then worked. I now just need to pop in the 1TB data drive when it arrives. I'm still confused by the way I seem to have a couple of 4GB DDR3's that are fine individually, but won...

Re: Moving from X200T to X220T

Well, this has been more difficult than I thought. The machine, as supplied, turned out to have a faulty 2GB ram module. The supplier will replace this. In my box of bits, I found a couple of DDR3 4GB modules and had a lot of trouble with the display screen rotation giving error messages and sometim...

X220T functionality

Thought I'd start a new topic while I wait for the new mSATA disk to arrive. I seem to have got everything tested out and working on this X220T in its form as delivered. When getting the manual and auto screen rotate to work, there was a message that the second landscape setting was incompatible wit...

Re: A new SSD for Lenovo X220

As alternative could I consider to use the mSata slot putting an M.2 sata inside it, keeping my 2.5" sad Samsung 840 Evo ? I'm a bit confused by this question. Were you thinking of putting the M.2 sata in the main drive bay? Would it fit? I ask because when I searched the website of my usual disk s...

Re: Moving from X200T to X220T

Thanks for the replies. Very helpful. Now I've had the machine for a couple of days, I've found one or two small problems. None of them are deal-breakers, I don't think, but they might change the order I do things in. They include: The power socket works fine, but is more wobbly than any TP I've had...

Moving from X200T to X220T

I've just bought an old X220T with 500GB drive to replace my even older X200T, and have a few basic questions. The old machine had a 1TB drive with 2 almost equal partitions. I assume that I'll have to install a new 7mm drive to go into the X220. I'm also thinking it might be sensible to install, sa...

Re: X60t bios

Update: I've at last found an older bios for the machine and flashed that. The usb problem is still there, so I will have to strip the machine down sometime to see if I can locate the hardware problem.

Thanks to RealBlackstuff for all the great support throughout.

Re: X60t bios

I suppose it may be a hardware problem. I built the LENOVOBIOS usb stick on another machine and re-checked all the settings then tried to boot the X60T from it. Nothing. It boots in another machine fine. With the HDD back in, X60T boots into Windows 7. When plugged in, this usb stick says it has mal...

Re: X60t bios

Yes, but the problem is that I can't boot anything from usb. The machine blue screens in Win7 when a usb stick is plugged in and won't boot from usb stick, CD or floppy. I'm continuing to poke around, but was thinking that maybe I could bypass the restriction stopping installing the same bios by usi...

Re: X60t bios

So far, that hasn't gone well. :( The updater seems to be a Windows program, and the machine was running Linux Mint. So I've now installed from the docking station drive a Lenovo Win7 dvd that was to hand. This appears to be running fine except that if I plug usb sticks or HD's into any usb socket o...

X60t bios

I've been cobbling together a bunch of X200's and X60's for friends and family and now need to sort out what I can make of the donor machines. I started with an X60T running Mint 17, which I want to take back to XP,as it has the COA on the bottom. I thought I'd be quick and use a Macrium Reflect ima...

Re: X200T finger and touch in Windows 7 and 10

Thanks for that. I hadn't tried the Group Policy Editor technique before.

I'll now be away some time as I seem to have found a lot of other things that have failed, eg auto rotation. I'm hopeless at taking notes as I go along, but it looks as though I'll have to.

X200T finger and touch in Windows 7 and 10

I asked about this some time ago, but times and Windows 10 have moved on. I have a couple of X200T's, one on Windows 7, one on Windows 10, both 64-bit, both with the 'resistive' finger touch screen version. I have been using an X201 for day to day things, but would really like to get the tablet feat...

Re: Thinkpad X201, set up and tips?

I just run Linux on desktops, so can't answer any of those questions. With the Windows setup, I'd very strongly advise taking an image of the full Windows 7 before making any changes. A usb HD is always useful and worth having anyway, and would be handy for this. I currently run 2 X201's and 2 X200 ...

Re: T410 death by drowning?

Actually, I'm old enough to have taught Mr Bond everything he knows, if only he had asked. Now I spend my time worrying about hair falling under the keys and, as I said, sweating when stressed by trying to keep track of where so many different sized screws go in the T410. I'm fairly certain that the...

Re: T410 death by drowning?

Well, replacing the 4GB ram module brought the machine back to life. Squirting "air duster" at the failed ram made no difference, so I took it to the bathroom and gave it a good wash in cold water, shook it "dry", blasted any remaining droplets with more air then left it overnight to dry out fully. ...

T410 death by drowning?

It's hot here and we in the UK are not used to it. It makes us even more stupid than usual. I dismantled my T410 and cleaned the dust from the fan. I'm fairly used to doing this on X-series machines. On reassembly the machine booted into Windows, then blue screened. Since then it has not booted. The...

Please keep in mind that Windows Vista EOL is getting close. The date for that is April 11 2017. Yes, I appreciate that. Re: X60 tablet activation or Linux question

Well, that was all going so well until I made the mistake of letting Vista try to update itself unaccompanied. It then hit the bug where Control Panel comes up empty. Lenovo's support site have a good write up on updating BIOS. Follow that but use the modified BIOS. Modified BIOS or official BIOS, the update procedure is the same. Well, I can't make it work.
