Re: Searching for old Thinkpads is a royal pain now.
On eBay searches I usually do stuff like "(ibm, lenovo, thinkpad) (t20,t21,t22,t23,2647,2648)" (no quotes) because sometimes pre-T6x machines may be erroneously listed as "Lenovo" instead of IBM as well and sometimes may not even include "ThinkPad"... also may be helpful to include MTMs in your search...

I suggested going to 4 digits like T4000, T5000, W5000, X2000, etc. because it would make the most sense (then T4100, T4200, etc.)

Re: Thinkpad 380XD oddball charging behavior
I think if the battery is bad/defective (shorted out, bad cell, etc.) it will likely damage the charging circuit on these machines (I have a 380ED with a similar issue, I usually leave the battery out or put tape over the terminals since I don't really use it with battery anymore)

Re: X20 to X22/23/24 conversion possible?
I used to own a top-end ThinkPad X24 with 1.13 CPU, built-in WiFi and Bluetooth (however I removed the BT card because I wanted both WiFi and Ethernet and could live without BT and modem), ran 2000 pretty well (I believe I used a BCM4318 wireless card... my typical choice for T23 and X2x with WiFi t...

Re: Well, I just bought a W701 on Ebay.
I've been using a ThinkPad W701 as a main machine for almost a year now, did run into some minor issues but it turned out just to be Firefox acting weird (sometimes the video driver would black out and reset, and turning off hardware acceleration fixed it)... I have a 480GB SSD, 2TB HDD and 24GB in ...

Re: Does the color of the IBM Badge indicate the screen spec?
Yes, models such as 340, 365 or 750 with a monochrome display will have a blue "IBM" badge on the lid and cover, while color machines such as 755C, 380ED or others will have the RGB "IBM" badge (please note that DSTN and TFT use the same badge)

Re: 365CD vs 365XD tell apart?
The front of the machine (where the status indicators are) will say "365CD", "365XD" or whatever model it is on that indicator strip (I think some 365s are unmarked however, namely the lower end models like plain, CS or C)

Re: W700 regular BSODs.
Do you get a screen blankout shortly before a BSOD? I had BSOD issues with my ThinkPad W701 but I found it was due to an issue with Firefox (does it happen with web browsing or similar?) and disabling hardware acceleration in Firefox stopped the blankouts/BSODing

Re: Thinkpad 365 powers on but no LCD. Worth buying?
I believe if the connectors are the same then the screens should work for the most part, you can check this list if necessary (I did have a 365ED with a TFT panel so it must have been a custom option on that model, but it also came with a 16MB base memory instead of 8MB)

Re: Thinkpad 365 powers on but no LCD. Worth buying?
If the machine at lest turns on when plugged into VGA external monitor, then either the inverter, backlight or cable/panel is bad... keep in mind there were multiple 365 models (I believe DSTN mono, DSTN color, TFT color and 800x600 DSTN or TFT color) so getting a correct panel may be trouble... if ...

Re: 760LD LCD 640x480 or 800x600
A few years ago I attached the 800x600 display from a ThinkPad 760E to a ThinkPad 760L. You'll get a picture but with some distortion and it won't be usable and you won't be able to use all of the pixels of the higher resolution display. I had a similar issue when I tried attaching an 800x600 displ...

Dug out the old T43 recently and put in a Transcend 128GB SSD, so I felt like giving Windows 10 a try... everything appears to be working well, and it runs amazingly for an 11 year old laptop; however I did have to use a Vista driver and install it manually with compatibility mode and install a dumm...

Re: ThinkPad T43/p: Which versions of Windows do you use
I decided to give Windows 10 a try on my ThinkPad T43 (X300 with 2GB RAM and 128GB IDE Transcend SSD), runs surprisingly well for being over a decade old (did buy a NOS battery for it as well which is also working, actually says "Lenovo" on it)... have not run into any issues but had to install a du...

Re: 365 and 755 LCD Assembly Swap?
365 and 755 are not in the same product family/chassis, but there's a possibility the panel itself from the 755 line will actually fit and work in a 365 (this involves opening the display assembly to remove the panel, inverter and other parts) One of my 770 machines had a bad CCFL so I took out a cr...

Re: Will the 755CX's 800x600 screen fit/work in a 755CD?
As an update, I can sadly confirm that an 800x600 display will not work on a 755CD (it appears to be incompatible with the enhanced video board and will not display properly)... recently I won a 755CD that had motherboard damage from a leaked main battery but a near-perfect chassis, and felt it was ...

Both my 755C and 755CX have a 72 pin SIMM adapter in them, with two 16MB sticks in them... never tried 32MB sticks but I'd assume they'd probably not work (either only see half the stick, give a 201 error or not POST)

I can confirm that 760/765 Lithium Ion batteries work in a 755CX or 755CD/Pentium (NOT a 755CE or 755CD/486 however), as I used one to upgrade the BIOS on mine Believe the NiMH for 755 also works on 760/765 but obviously you'd get worse battery life

Also is the battery a generic/third-party? I had a shorted battery damage something on one of my T43s (it would sometimes freeze up and the power management screwed up on it)

You could try bridging a charged NiMH 9V battery over the terminals to make it think there's a charged battery inside the machine, but I don't know if it works or not (I'm lucky enough to have at least one working 755/760 battery)

Depends on what OS is installed, whether it has HDD or SSD, RAM quantity, Core Duo or Core 2 Duo, or if it is a plain T60 or T60p :) (SSD will fetch more than HDD typically, maxed out RAM will too) If it's not a T60p, I wouldn't recommend spending over $100 on a T60... The Broadcom HD decoder also only makes sense on Integrated T61s, because nVidia T61s have built in support for HD video decoding (said decoder is also good on any T60/p or Z60/Z61)
