Re: Classic theme on Windows 8

Well IBMPad hasn't really contributed to the project lately, and if we were to get an update from him on here, we would post it on the WinClassic Forums. But this thread has become kind of a mess of information that's mixed with different topics. So we hope that this will provide us with some more o...

Re: Classic theme on Windows 8

Well Splitwirez already provided a link, but I'll go ahead and post the announcement anyway. :D Attention everyone! I am pleased to announce the launch of our new forum, WinClassic . Here, we will be hosting organized discussion about using the classic theme, and about implementing classic Windows f...

Re: Classic theme on Windows 8

Looks nice. You really know how to capture a classic look with a modern Windows UI.

Anyway, I don't know what kind of problems you've been having with 'vanilla' Windows 10, but I've only had issues with the classic theme (issues that have already been discussed here).

http://i.imgur.com/iwKgbVN.png Am I doing it right? :V That... looks awesome. I love it! Edit: Here's a more 'accurate' version in the standard Windows 16 colors. It doesn't look as nice as Splitwirez's original version, but it does have a more authentic Win95 feel: http://i.imgur.com/1UHDWBM.png S...

Re: Classic theme on Windows 8

Sorry for the double post...does anyone remember this concept image? http://i.imgur.com/cTZ5SK6.png Looks like a good blend of a modern and classic UI. It would be perfect for those who would like to use the classic theme, but still want a Windows 8-esque interface. Oh, and just so you folks know, ...

Re: Classic theme on Windows 8

One can load the taskbar in themed mode and then disable themes by running w8classic or using handle utility. The taskbar will remain themed while everything elese will not. Yeah, but the Classic Tenbar utility still doesn't work properly unless themes are enabled. When using the classic theme, it ...

Wow, that's frustrating. I seem to remember there being a way to turn off active monitoring or something, that might let you download the file and then add an exclusion.

Re: Classic theme on Windows 8

Well if you've actually made some progress porting the Longhorn explorer, I would be interested in seeing that. It does sound interesting, and hey, maybe we will go somewhere with that. Who knows. That does sound interesting at the very least. If you feel like you're getting somewhere with that, the...

Re: Classic theme on Windows 8

I still really don't think replacing system files with old versions would be the best route to take. Keep in mind files in the Windows and/or System32 folders were designed only with the version of Windows they shipped with in mind. For example, the Windows XP version of Explorer.exe is very buggy o...

Re: Classic theme on Windows 8

I wouldn't recommend Win10 if you can help it. I just tried the explorer.exe, and it doesn't work. I've already tried different versions of Explorer on Win10, and I've only ever gotten the default one to work. I don't think replacing explorer.exe is the best way to go about this.

Re: Classic theme on Windows 8

Well I certainly wouldn't want to isolate Windows 7 users. Windows 7 Ultimate is currently my primary OS, and I plan to test Win8/10 in a VM or something. I already have a dual-boot with Linux Mint, and I don't want to install too many OSes (at least not on this computer). However, I've been pretty ...

Re: Classic theme on Windows 8

Splitwirez, I completely agree that the best thing to do for this project would be to take the best parts of every Windows UI and allow everything to be optional. So if you wanted to use a UI that was completely accurate to Windows 2000 or XP, you could. If you wanted to use a mixture of a modern an...

Re: Classic theme on Windows 8

Using the Longhorn shell does sound interesting imo (as long as we were to make it a little bit more customizable that it is out of the box, even though it did still have a lot of really cool features). Splitwirez, what would you say is the most reliable/stable build of Longhorn? I'd assume some of ...

Powerplayer wrote:Why recover data? if os not booting you can log in from a windows to go hd or bartpe drive and just copy stuff over?
No, it's not just that it's not booting. The drive is physically damaged, meaning that it is completely unbootable and unreadable.

Re: Classic theme on Windows 8

Yeah, it's pretty annoying. Especially since I'm going to have to pay at least $500 for data recovery! But the good news is I am running Windows 7 now, so I can look into running Windows 10 in a VM. OpenNT could be something to look into. Like I said, I have messed around with it a little bit before...

False Positive. ClassicTheme.exe is certainly not a FakeAV, and the source code is included so it's fine. I'm not getting this problem with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium, but there have been reports of other false positives with different AV software. See if you can add an exclusion for ClassicT...

Re: Classic theme on Windows 8

Thanks a lot! Yeah, I always use Classic Shell for the back/forward buttons. I just like to have an address bar. What I'd like to eventually have is a shell extension address bar that would be more compact and would be fully customizable. This would give Explorer a much more Windows 98/XP feel to it...

Re: Classic theme on Windows 8

Thank you! Haha, it seems the Windows version is hard-coded. Yeah, for Windows 2000 it is! That can be changed via Resource Hacker though (dialog 101). As for the Server 2003 one, I know that the versions are stored via stringtable inside of the sysdm.cpl file. But it seems that since we're not run...

Nice, although I wouldn't say it's a full replacement for Windows Classic. I think it's cool though.
