my experience with this symptom on an X31 resulted in replacing the system board. in my situation the system would occasionaly power on fully, but then would often times crash with various error messages, some of which inferred RAM issues. All of which ceased when I replaced the system board w/ one ...

mmmmm..... beer
I've opted for favorite beers as a naming convention for my systems.
guinness
bass
harpoon
broonale (aka newcastle)
etc.
Although the X31 deviates slightly in that it is named "half-pint".

The OQO unit is very cool... and earns serious props for being the "first kid on the block" as it's been out for 2+ years now. Newer to the scene are all the UMPC devices, like the Sony UX line . Sony also sells their TX line of notebooks w/ 11.1" screens and very usable keyboards. I just spent a fe...

Hi guys, sorry to sound like a noob... How do you guys install and use the Recovery Console? I've previously tried to install the Recovery Console on my T42s (Win'XP-Pro) and there was a very annoying bootup selection menu that asked if you want to boot into Win'XP or Recovery Console... (really sl...

FIX: I just fixed my issue w/ the recovery console "fixboot" command. Not sure how I missed out on this little gem of a command before.

Gom - Thanks, but FIXMBR didn't do me any good. At this point I think my issue isn't so much a bad MBR, as it is that maybe the R&R software has hijacked the windows boot process. If I could figure out what file(s) it modified to accomplish this, I can edit/remove/replace them. More info (supporting...

Re: Sticker on lid of laptop left a semi-circular "mark
I took the semi-circular sticker that came on my Thinkpad off and now there is a slight discoloration where the sticker is...it's just a lighter shad of flat black, but I just wanted to see if there is any way to remove this? It didnt take off any paint, just left some residue behind (I guess)...is...

Rescue me from Rescue & Recovery - FIXED w/ fixboot
Hello all, Problem: Recent installation of R&R (3.10.xx I think) has taken over my system such that when I boot it, I can only boot into the R&R recovery console. System offers no option to boot into Windows. Background: Some time ago I setup my X31 w/ a new drive, and at that time used R&R (or mayb...

Replaced systemboard - now how to 're-activate' TPM chip?
I have recently had to replace the system board on my X31, and would now like to get the TPM chip back up & running... preferably with it's ability to read previously encrypted data, but I am willing to live without that if need be. I have obtained the v 1.72 Hardware Maintenance Disk of lore, and h...

They are .... but IBM stopped using PC2100 RAM in favor of the more plentiful (and therefore cheaper) PC2700 RAM. If you read the link I posted above, it mentions that PC2100 is not longer available (untrue in general sense) and that 2700 can be used. Your system will just run the 2700 memory at the...

Excellent! I love when I'm wrong like that. Wonder how I got the 1gb max in my head. Oh well... maybe I'll pick up a 1gb stick to upgrade mine (currently have a 256 & 512 module in there) [edit] Just found my source... A little late to this party I realize... but I have found the iGo products ( http://www.igo.com/ ) to be perfect for this. I charge my x31 & my Moto cell phone on planes, in cars, and hotel rooms in the US w/o issue. Been using it for nearly 2 years, and I'm still as happy as can be. You can find th...

I would contact the bookstores directly at BU, BC, Harvard Coop, etc. to find out for certain if they have any in stock & on display.

Hi, You are getting that error b/c the WLAN card is NOT in the 'approved' list contained within your system's BIOS. You may want to try updating BIOS first to see if that solves it, otherwise the only other solution I know of can be found here: http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0406.1/10...

Sony MPD-AP20U
I have a Sony USB cd-rw/dvd-rom drive ( MPD-AP20U ) that I have booted from... though not to install windows. Worked just fine for booting into Knoppix & Ubutu liveCD's.
