Re: IBM Type 2625... what model of 365 is?

Let me know if you still need a keyboard. I accidentally dropped one of 2 365's I was going to refurb and load on ebay. The keyboard appears to be intact, but the rear left hinge sure isn't. I know both systems do power up though.

Re: 701C replacement batteries

Did you rebuild your primary battery? I regret tossing my leaked NiMH batteries over a decade ago, as I still have a 701C and CS, though both are stored away. Yes. I used 20 AWG wire to solder standard AA NiMH Eneloop cells together. Macgyvered a stand for said cells to hold them in place during so...

Re: 380XD: Bios Update w/o Battery (Help)

I've never owned a 380XD, but I'm curious myself now how hard it is to rebuild the battery. That's how I've updated all my 755s, 760s and 600s - by rebuilding the battery (or acquiring one to rebuild, if need be).

Re: How do I upgrade the BIOS to 1.44 on a 755CE with a dead battery?

That's for a 600. Totally different platform than any of the 755 machines. Though I can't comment on the battery-less updates, as I just updated 2 600E machines (2645-4AU) yesterday using rebuilt batteries (one used cells I got from an X61 pack, the other had its original cells that took a charge up...

Re: Replace 755CSE LCD with 755C LCD?

The layouts of the circuit boards surrounding the screen are different... check it out, I took them both apart: https://imgur.com/a/caXndfO I'm probably going to return the 755c screen anyway. Some of the ribbon cables surrounding the screen were broken so even if I was able to get it hooked up rig...

Re: TP760: Li-Ion battery dead - can I put NiMH cells inside?

By the way, that 760XD Li-Ion battery is now still alive, but only used to keep the CMOS clock etc working. I charge it about 3 times per year (LCD usually starts at 0%, takes about 3 hours to 100%). I use the 760XD mainly to run an eprommer at the parallel part. The TFT has developed about 100 col...

Re: The official 755 Upgrade and general information Topic

Just to update.. I did get the 755CD working. The initial problem was a bad motherboard - I was able to find a seller on eBay with NOS ones so I bought one of those and it booted up.. Then the next day it failed again, this time the LCD. So I replaced that as well, buying one on eBay. At this point...

No, you cannot. Just replace the 17500 cells with new Panasonic cells. To use NiMH, you'd need to source an NiMH pack, which uses a Sanyo HR-AUL, or any other 4/5A NiMH.

Re: IBM Thinkpad Battery Re-Celling Battery Rebuild Tutorial

I think I need to write my own FAQ, but you should NEVER solder directly to a battery. That's why you buy a spot welder. You can get a Chinese one for under $200, and it's much safer than soldering to cells.

Nice! You're lucky that the two are physically and electrically compatible. Well they're basically identical machines(and use the same FRU Mobo...so it being electrically compatible really isn't a surprise. Yup. The 360CE runs a 486DX2-50, and 755's run either the same or a DX4-100. But yes, the sy...

Re: TP755C SB Compatibility

Consider it business audio. It's a crappy card intended to play wav and midi files in Windows or OS/2. In fact, I'm almost positive business audio was an actual term back in the 90s. You figure the "average" businessperson then didn't need to play games (in quotes, because who knows how true that wa...

Re: How do I upgrade the BIOS to 1.44 on a 755CE with a dead battery?

I'd be very careful hooking up power to the DC-DC board, attempting to fool the computer into thinking there's a battery. And as others have mentioned, there are other pins for outputting other data.

I've updated my 755CEs (that weren't updated) using a rebuilt battery, but that's another story.

Re: Replace 755CSE LCD with 755C LCD?

Strange, as they should both be compatible, at least on the connection to the motherboard riser board. I don't blame you on replacing the DSTN, as it tends to have a crappy image, especially when you can't find ANY laptops these days with a DSTN screen (and why, when TFTs are so darn cheap to produc...

XF86Config file for 360/750/755

I'm trying to see if anyone else has got X to work under Linux on a 360/750/755 series machine (VGA, not SVGA resolution).

Apparently, I posted that I got it working in 2017, though I have yet to find whatever hard drive I got it to work in. Currently, I'm trying to figure it out on my 755C.

Re: Adding audio to TP 360CE

Sadly, it's a crappy card if you're not using it in Windows or OS/2. And the other disadvantage of putting that Crystal card in a 360CE is the lack of the appropriate bracket.

Re: Thinkpad 755c problem

More than likely, it would be a switch problem. There are two - one where the LCD closes over the keyboard bezel, on the right side, and one under the keyboard. I'd visually check both, or if you don't mind doing some disassembling, check to see if the switches show as open or closed on a multimeter.

I'm being lazy and not reading the entire thread (though I know I should). OP mentioned the CMOS battery. Anyone need any vintage TP batteries rebuilt?

So far, I've successfully rebuilt battery packs for the 750/755, 755CE/CD/CX, 760, and 560. I could probably rebuild NiMH and LiIon packs for other systems, and in the past, I've rebuilt packs for the 600 (which is probably the most recent I could rebuild without having to reset the EEPROM). All I'd...
