Re: 850 vs 701c?

You think that's bad? Good luck finding a working 2.5" SCSI hard drive, because I'm pretty sure those systems never had IDE as an option. Makes me still wish I'd kept the 800 or 820 or whatever it was Power ThinkPad I'd had over 12 years ago. There an exact model for the drive itself on eBay at the...

Re: 850 vs 701c?

Yeah, I mean I am a bit disappointed but hey, having an 850 itself at a decent price and cheap shipping makes up for it. Figuring out the HDD caddy is going to be a real pain though... The hinges are already starting to give, any suggestion on how to deal with them? You think that's bad? Good luck ...

Anyone need any vintage TP batteries rebuilt?

So far, I've successfully rebuilt battery packs for the 750/755, 755CE/CD/CX, 760, and 560. I could probably rebuild NiMH and LiIon packs for other systems, and in the past, I've rebuilt packs for the 600 (which is probably the most recent I could rebuild without having to reset the EEPROM). All I'd...

TP365's use the same keyboard? That's good to know!

Yup, the left mouse button working intermittently is pretty common. Heck, I remember it being common when I got my first 755CE in 2000!

Re: Rebuilding battery packs

Another update - successfully rebuilt a 760 Li-Ion pack. Amazingly, I was able to get the same brand and model of cells as the original pack's cells (Panasonic CGR17500). It's still charging, but at 4%, I unplugged it briefly and it did hold its own. Now I get to charge it all the way up and let it ...

And... I figured out the solution, after spending about 2-3 hours on the above problem: install OS/2 Warp 4 convenience pack 2, using the default 1688 driver (not detected). Problem solved!

Re: 755C Windows 95 Factory Image

I never opened them. To get the 750/360/PC-DOS systems captured, I had to get a copy of LapLink 5 installed and hooked to a win98 ThinkPad with a USB port. Once I was able to transfer the entire directory structure to the USB key I could take it to a modern system and create a VMware copy of the ol...

Re: 755C Remove cigarette smell.

Except that oddly enough, the 755CV and CDV both support Li-Ion batteries, while the 755CD does not. Go figure! Nope, the 755CD does, but only the Pentium models. All 486 machines CANNOT use Li-ION batteries. The first machine to OFFICIALLY support it was the 755CX, and the ones with those motherbo...

KTM-TP750/16

If anyone is interested, I found someone who has a BOX of these these (over 100) and is selling them pretty cheap (under 10 bucks each). I personally am always looking for the 32MB version, but if anyone wants some cheap memory upgrades for their 355/360/755/370, shoot me a PM and I'll put you in to...

Re: TP 755CX - issues with mwave, sound and modem

Okay, sounds like it comes down to flashing somehow the latest BIOS... Lemme see if I can find a way to force that. I have found some posts about hex-editing the flasher, and a few others about forcing a flash manually. Good luck on that. I already tried investigating that route and found it won't ...

760EL/ESS 1688 sound card + OS/2 Warp 4

I've spent about 2 hours unsuccessfully trying to get OS/2 Warp 4 with the latest Fixpack (15 I think) to work with the ES1688 sound card. I have a 760ED, but I swapped sound cards with a 760EL parts unit (because we all know the mwave sucks). Well, I see why I made the switch from OS/2 to Windows 2...

Re: TP 755CX - issues with mwave, sound and modem

Just found this old thread; forget I replied at one point. I'm going to order 12 x 17500 to try and rebuild a 760 Li-Ion pack. I'll let you know if I'm successful. So far, I've successfully rebuilt 3 x 750 packs, and unsuccessfully a 755CE NiMH (the amount of battery leakage is astounding, so I'll t...

Re: ThinkPad 755CX

My P75 755CDV(afaik has the same mobo as 755CX) take LI-ION if that helps you. It both does and doesn't. The question is not whether it takes Li-Ion (which I know it does), but whether I can use the same packs as a 760C/E/X series. Any chance you could take a picture of your Li-Ion pack and email o...

ThinkPad 755CX

Does anyone know if the 755CX can use Li-Ion batteries like those in the 760 series? I'm currently bidding on one on ebay, but I also found one off ebay - it's an 800x600 version, and I got it for only USD $75 (the guy who sold it is also selling me 4 x 750 series batteries, in case I want to rebuil...

Re: Rebuilding battery packs

So, I just rebuilt another pack. One of the leads on the second Klixon thermal cutouts broke, so sadly, I skipped it. I do have one at least. I decided to build this pack slightly differently from before, using electrical tape to hold it in place, and preserving the nickel strips already soldered to...

I missed out on one that sold on ebay over the weekend. Rather, I bid, but I forgot about the auction while writing an email to none other than our own Bill Morrow. Oh, and as for other drivers, they're also on mirrors of the pccbbs, in the mobiles directory, as others said. If you grab the file 00index.txt, you can search for 360 in there and find the names of all the files you need to download (PCMCIA, sound if you have that option (didn't come with audio fro...

Re: 88pin, JEIDA DRAM (360cs thinkpad)

Specifically, the file you're looking for is SYTPS143.EXE. SYTPS143.TXT is the README. You'll also need a charged battery pack to do the BIOS upgrade. Contrary to popular belief, the HEX editor hacks for the 770 do not work on the 355/360/750/755C,CS machines (same BIOS update diskette for all). As ...

You'll also want to get your hands on a spot welder. You can find them pretty cheap on ebay. Don't expect stellar quality from the Chinese ones, but they get the job done. I will say, i don't trust the soldering iron feature built into it (used it once, but I prefer a temperature controlled solderin...

I should be posting photos of my work in progress, but I've never been good in that area. Anyways, I built another pack today. I found with my first pack, that it wouldn't charge in a 750 or 755 machine. It appears to be the same with this pack. Thus, I have a feeling that unless the batteries are f...
