I agree. New forum looks nicer, but the avatar should be put back to the left side, not the right.

Re: W530. Did i get a replaced 1080p screen? model number: Lenovo B156HTN01.1

First thing you should notice with a genuine FHD screen is that all images and colors look very saturated. This is the dead giveaway. Contrast on these screens are only about 400:1, which isn't great, but still decent. I read somewhere that the 1600x900 15.6" screens have slightly better contrast, b...

You may be still able to find new T/W500 batteries on eBay. I have had no issues running one in my T61 or T60.

Also, modern applications (especially web), become more taxing for older and older systems, so cpu usage increases. This in turn ups the temps.

Alternatively, you can also get a faster W530 and do a keyboard swap and bios flash to have the same keyboard functionality as the previous models.

W530 with classic keybaord mod, K2000M and 15.6" FHD screen will serve you well. A Frankenpad, as nice a project it is, won't cut it for CAD, and you might want something a bit faster for everyday use.

Re: [REQUEST] Dark(er) theme option for the forum

As a workaround, you can install a "night mode" type of addon in chrome or firefox to automatically invert or change the color/contrast of pages. BYM is super lightweight and good for firefox, although it disables multi process. Deluminate for chrome is the BEST extension/addon regarding night mode,...

Re: W520 keyboard in W530?

I would not bother with using a W520 palmrest. I tried modifying a bunch of the plastic pieces on the bottom, but it just still wouldn't fit. The W530 palmrest fits perfectly well, albeit slightly tight if you don't hollow out the keyboard inserts fully enough.

Check your gpu and cpu speeds while on the docking station vs without. I wonder if using the dock will cause clock rates to run at maximum regardless of load.

X1C5 IMO. W10 is not as bad as most people make it out to be. I still prefer linux, but W10 offers better productivity and security over W7. For example, the addition of virtual desktops can really save a lot of time and keep you organized. Also the slight increase in hardware speed is always welcome.

If the buyer has a 99-100% rating and posts clear pics, it is probably unlikely to be a scam. Could just be a guy who wants to get rid of a bunch of stuff without the patience to sell higher. Anyway, $20 isn't much money lost even if it doesn't happen to come perfect.

Actually, a T430 will be around 33% faster overall than your W510, even with integrated graphics. So you are actually getting a nice upgrade (besides the screen, of course).

Re: What have I done to my X200's screen? [1 picture]

The coating on the screen looks stock, so I don't think the previous owner modified it. It may be possible that the cloth picked up some hard particles and ended up scratching the screen as it moved over it. On the other hand, there are pretty distinct patterns in the scratch lines, so it may just b...

Yes, it goes somewhere near the rear right side of the magnesium frame and base cover. It is used to route some cables I think.

Re: Which Thinkpads are the durable ones?

The most cosmetically resilient Lenovo thinkpad (and possibly in the top 3 of all thinkpads) goes to the X300/X301. These models wear extremely slowly and I rarely see one in bad condition, even abused. They are also pretty structurally sound. Then again, they were not cheap since you could buy 2, m...

Re: T43 slow browsing with xp

I recommend using linux on anything older than a T60. XP has become bloated, unsupported, and unsecured, while W7 is only 'tolerable' on a T43.

There is plenty of support, customization, and variations of linux for really anyone.

Re: Which Thinkpads are the durable ones?

15.6" 20/30 models definitely had better hinges than the 14.1" versions. However, both still felt pretty cheap. I have used a T440 and T450 and the build quality/feel was surprisingly better in most areas. The hard part about the ones ending in 40 for me is that the lack of a clamshell is going to b...

Re: Is Lenovo W520 quadcore with 2960xm cpu still Better than the top W530 and most of The newer laptops of today?

Well, a W530 goes up to a 3920XM which is much faster than a top W520. Additionally, newer processors, especially broadwell and skylake, have added instruction sets and significant optimizations. Even if you have a newer cpu whose 'raw' score is a bit lower than a 2960xm, the newer CPU can still be ...

Re: Looking to buy a cheap Thinkpad.

A T400 (probably even base model) with intel graphics will handle 1080p video well. T61 on the other hand will require at least a T7700, but preferably T9300 CPU to make up for the poor iGPU performance.

If your laptop has a thunderbolt 3 port, then you can buy and use an external desktop GPU. However, it is a bit costly. You will need the card, adapter, PSU, and case.

I recommend dedicating serious video editing for a fast desktop you can build yourself. Much better performance at a fraction of the cost of a new laptop. Pop in a USB thinkpad keyboard, or better yet, a model M, and you are good to go!

Reseating the LCD connections aren't too difficult, provided you have the HMM handy and take your time. Sometimes when you have only a couple stripes the issue can be the cable. I have an XGA T23 and although the screen is sharp, colors and viewing angles are just average. I wonder what kind of pane...

$2.2 million is like pennies for a company like Vizio. Make it $50 million minimum and maybe companies will actually think twice.

The T60/T61 keyboards have a less "spongy" feel because they retained a solid backplate.

The best Lenovo Thinkpad keyboard goes to the X300/X301 models. The typing experience is practically on par with my 600X.

Your gpu drivers on W7 are probably outdated or corrupted.

I always found chrome to give better media and 3D performance than other browsers, especially under linux.
