WTB: W701/W700 any variant
Hi, I am looking to buy a good condition W7xx thinkpad, preferably W701DS, but will also be open to W700DS, W701, and W700 models. Specs do not matter. Thanks!

Re: WTB: 14.1" NOS 4:3 T60 palmrest with IBM logo
The IBM logos used to be available on ebay but have seemed to have dried up. However, if anyone has a direct link to where I could find them, that would be awesome. Also thank you for asking me to clarify. The palmrest should include the touchpad and I am accepting both the fingerprint and non finge...

WTB: 14.1" NOS 4:3 T60 palmrest with IBM logo
Hi,
I am looking for a new old stock 14.1" non-widescreen T60 palmrest (NOT 14.1" T61) with the IBM ThinkPad logo.
Thanks!

The drop down hinges are a bit of a deal breaker for me. Not aesthetically pleasing.

Re: 701c keyboard feel vs 600?
600 series keyboards are the best compared to any other thinkpad I have used. Travel, crispness, response, no flex, really all of it is excellent. The other keyboard that comes close is the one in the X300/X301 IMO. The 701 keyboard feels nice, but it isn't really a comparison.

Re: optimzing a T42p for today's browsing demands
I honestly would just get a newer machine. An upper end T60 is the minimum you can get by while still doing real work. If you are really set on using your T42p and can deal without using JS and flash, the Dillo browser for windows or linux is extremely fast. Even my 770 from 1997 managed to load web...

Re: Require T60 LCD repair services
Repairing the actual screens is not worth the trouble. Much cheaper to post a WTB on the forum or go on eBay (just do research on sellers) for a new screen. I am not quite sure what else could be the problem based on your symptoms, other than the motherboards being toast, but I would probably start ...

Re: Require T60 LCD repair services
What do you mean specifically by "not working"? If the screens are blank, try shining a light at the screen and see if you can make out a faint image. If this is the case, then the inverter is bad. Don't worry about repairing the laptop yourself, it is very easy with the HMM you can find on this sit...

Re: How to wear down those trackpad bumps...
It's only a sticker. You could peel it off and its perfectly smooth underneath. You could even peel off your old one and stick it on the new one. They're made from some pretty tough vinyl. Yes, this is a better solution. People have replaced the stock sticker with a flat one that you can find onlin...

Re: Help/advice needed: T430s Loose hinge?
You cannot tighten hinges on a T430s. Lenovo didn't start adding 14.1" hinges with adjustable nuts until the T440 and newer. You either have to deal with it or replace them, but they all tend to get slightly loose over time. Not a big deal IMO.

SL series thinkpads aren't that bad. Still better than consumer grade laptops and exhibit less flex than the EDGE models at the time.

Re: Youtube on T4x
T4* models can only play 480p YT videos, and even then that is pushing it. Just a few years ago I had no problem playing 720p videos full screen in crunchbang linux on a med-spec T43. My overall feeling is that modern browsers have become too bloated for these machines. Web browsing is way more pain...

Re: Are series xx40 and newer really that bad?
Are you getting any marks on the screen? I get key marks fairly easily, but they easily come off with a microfiber cloth. One thing I forgot to mention was that although the laptop feels very tight and rigid, the plastics will develop shine quite fast. I only had this laptop for a month and it is p...

Re: Are series xx40 and newer really that bad?
I have a t450 at work. Fit and finish is good and the system is physically quite solid. Only complaint is the keyboard and the screen rubbing against the keyboard. Not very eye pleasing either but other than that it's nice.

Re: W530. Did i get a replaced 1080p screen? model number: Lenovo B156HTN01.1
First thing you should notice with a genuine FHD screen is that all images and colors look very saturated. This is the dead giveaway. Contrast on these screens are only about 400:1, which isn't great, but still decent. I read somewhere that the 1600x900 15.6" screens have slightly better contrast, b...

Also, modern applications (especially web), become more taxing for older and older systems, so cpu usage increases. This in turn ups the temps.

Alternatively, you can also get a faster W530 and do a keyboard swap and bios flash to have the same keyboard functionality as the previous models.

W530 with classic keybaord mod, K2000M and 15.6" FHD screen will serve you well. A Frankenpad, as nice a project it is, won't cut it for CAD, and you might want something a bit faster for everyday use.

As a workaround, you can install a "night mode" type of addon in chrome or firefox to automatically invert or change the color/contrast of pages. BYM is super lightweight and good for firefox, although it disables multi process. Deluminate for chrome is the BEST extension/addon regarding night mode,...

Re: W520 keyboard in W530?
I would not bother with using a W520 palmrest. I tried modifying a bunch of the plastic pieces on the bottom, but it just still wouldn't fit. The W530 palmrest fits perfectly well, albeit slightly tight if you don't hollow out the keyboard inserts fully enough.

Check your gpu and cpu speeds while on the docking station vs without. I wonder if using the dock will cause clock rates to run at maximum regardless of load.

X1C5 IMO. W10 is not as bad as most people make it out to be. I still prefer linux, but W10 offers better productivity and security over W7. For example, the addition of virtual desktops can really save a lot of time and keep you organized. Also the slight increase in hardware speed is always welcome.
