Bog standard ABS is easy to coat but remove the rubberised coating and then wipe with a solution 50% IPA 50% demin with a lintfree cloth to remove any static. Any automotive plastic primer will fill any scratches in - just don't leave anything that doesn't like heat in the lid when you cure the pain...

Thanks for the response, Dekks. Here in LA there are plenty of evrybody...nothing's obscure.

All I need is one person to help out. Leo Kim is one of the best Thinkpad modders around. Really, the Thinkpad community is global.
Not a Korean community centre or group you couldnt ask?

Re: Korean Speaking Members Help Request

I am sure that there are Korean speaking members who enjoy communication both in English and Korean. Korean is kinda obscure, i'm learning slowly and got no response here last year trying to source a X230 Korean kb - ended up having to use a X61 as that was the only one i found on ebay. Re: And another reason to avoid Micro$haft's W10

Windows Updates can be painful and on lower powered machines would grind everything to a halt. That was the issue that made me move to Linux on everything bar 1 gaming box. FWIW those cpus were delayed by approx 2 years due to driver issues so its not surprising the GMA gfx chipset is causing more ...

I always completely disable superfetch Bad idea #1. A leftover from the early Vista period where bad advice from clueless people spun around the internet and stuck. Not really, it's less=more but with a trade off. Modern hardware renders superfetch moot, don't forget why it arrived with Vista. Wind...

Re: How many of you no longer own laptops?

This thread is about forum members' personal computers -- note the word "own" in the subject -- not employer-issued ones. If my work required computers to be abused, I most certainly wouldn't use my Surface 3. For personal use, I detach the keyboard from my Surface 3 (or the HP Pavilion X2 I once h...

Re: How many of you no longer own laptops?

Even the Surface Book? It has a very solid detachable keyboard, and can be configured with Core i7 processors. If I were forced to own just one computer, it would most certainly be the Surface Book as it has the power of a desktop, the mobility and usability of a laptop, and becomes a slate tablet ...

tablets are just toys, you can't do serious work on them, poorly constructed due to sacrificing robustness for lightness and IMO have only one role that of iffy quality media delivery when your slouched on the couch beer in hand.

Modern JS libraries on websites nowadays are compiled for multicore and cant handle single core very well, if she wants "good" browsing go to a T61 or newer.

A one time cash earning, yes, but a big one which could be necessary to impulse a grand new project. In parallel they could downsize, sell either the server or phone business, and again reinject that in the grand new project. It's more risky but that's what IBM did and now their research projects s...

Re: Lenovo says goodbye to the PC

To me it's a sensible inference. If Lenovo says it doesn't care about the PC market anymore, why would they strive to maintain their already poor standards ? Why lose margins by selecting better/more expensive components and waste money in QC ? If you believe that then you don't seem to know much a...

I don't buy that. They have a zillion lines of nearly-identical machines, and each line requires different tooling. They could kill one of the stupider series of thinkpads and offer a proper keyboard.
maybe they just don't see the sales to justify the tooling costs.

Not true.
A friend of mine has a 15.4" R61 with W7-Pro and runs outdoor BT speakers off it, using the BT-II module from the lid.
Next time I see him, I'll ask for details.
Ask him if thats using A2DP profiles which i believe BT2 doesn't have and modern BT headphones needs.

Re: I hate numeric keypads. Am I the only one?

Thinkpads are not consumer kit for that reason they will always have numeric keybads that are standard in accounting. Lenovo have other segments/brands more oriented to the consumer/pro-sumer that don't have the numeric keypad.

There is a lot of chatter about early implementation of USB 3 and power feeds to the connector. See https://bugs.launchpad.ne...
