Re: Running a Samsung SSD with openSuse

I've been using Samsung solid state drives (SSDs) in (2) of my T61 laptops with no problems. OS is current version of openSuse. Recently I have been having a variety of problems with these units that appear to be related to the SSDs. Question: In the Middleton BIOS, I have set "SATA Controller Mode...

AMD/Lenovo just officially announced both: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-AMD-ThinkPads-A275-and-A475-announced-with-Bristol-Ridge.246018.0.html Presumably there will be Ryzen/Raven-Ridge based models in early 2018 at some point. Poor decision Thinkpad T/X brands shouldn't be tainted by such ...

Given the general negative view of AMD CPUs pre Ryzen i'm amazed Lenovo PR are even contemplating anything non Ryzen.

Re: Lenovo A275: move over Intel Management Engine, AMD DASH is here...

Coreboot & Co just got another job! The Lenovo A275 is coming next, a Thinkpad X270 lookalike with AMD CPU and AMD GPU. And AMD DASH, which can spy on you the same way as IME (Intel Management Engine) does. Your IT administrators can easily access laptops, whether they are powered on with a respons...

Re: New AMD based ThinkPads are coming

Sorry for bumping, but it seems that (so far) they're going to have Bristol Ridge, not Raven Ridge. (AKA, Construction cores instead of Zen.) Basically, terrible awful no good CPUs. Any links to the A275/A475 having Bristol ridge as i can't find any that don't talk about Ryzen. Plenty about the E s...

Correct that thread refers to installing the firmware file, if you have at least once connected then it's a red herring.

Re: optimzing a T42p for today's browsing demands

Cant forget software optimamiztion. The RPI was relased 5 years after porgrammers got used to programminy on phine hardware, and with a big market, it was easy to sell programmers. For the few thousand left still hanging on to their P4s, there isnt too much reason to make a ultra efficent browser Y...

The main factor there is how compressed the data is. The less compressed, the better playback. Youtube happens to be very compressed, so maybe a Blu-Ray over USB could fare better.

You mean: ? https://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/92p1840.pdf It makes it seem a lot easier than it really is. Re: Youtube on T4x

I wonder if this has something to do with Debian switching back to ffmpeg (from libav). I performed a live upgrade (apt dist-upgrade) from Debian 8 to 9 when it came out, and encountered an issue with video playback. What program are you using to play 720p videos, and what issue are you having? It'...

don't know about your experience but to mine, Microsoft edge does 720p done. Not on debian 9 it doesn't ;) Funnily i switched to debian from arch when arch announced they were planning to depreciate 32bit, i feel debian 32bit runs better on this machine than arch did. But arch would play 720p files...

Re: T30 Disk removal

The T30 seems really badly designed.... I've removed 30 screws so far and haven't managed to get the bevel off. Can't see the T30 getting re-assembled :( Most thinkpads of that era need no more than 10 screws in the correct order to remove kb/bezel, as RBS says download the HMM and with a ruler you...
