Get a new combi BT - wifi card IF you have a WWAN expansion slot to put it into.

Do you have intel VT-d or VT-X enabled in BIOS? How do you have power management configured?

Plug in the drive and run lsusb -t? Could you pastebin the whole journal from the time you booted with drive plugged in.

Re: i7 X220 USB 3.0 not working in Linux

No just a flash drive, it works in both USB 2 ports From googling this issue has been reported on and off since 2014 with ubuntu and windows, fixed sometimes, sometimes not. There is a lot of chatter about early implementation of USB 3 and power feeds to the connector. See https://bugs.launchpad.ne...

Your usb 3.0 port is correctly detected by Linux.
Yup but that has no bearing on if it's working.

Re: Does it make sense to use mSATA SSD for data partition?

IMO using it as /HOME on a ssd is fine as the i/o isnt too bad, i've set a CF card on one of my x32s in just that way. With 8GB it would be easy to set up a ramdisk for tmp files.

Try looking for the get-edid package.

get-edid > filename then parse-edid < filename

Re: SD ram card as extended memory vs. SSD allocation

If your talking readyboost type disk caching then unless your running what today is considered an absurdly low amount of RAM it wont do much as Intel found out with their Robson cards. Adding more RAM speeds up the system by a far bigger factor.

Do away with the WWAN.

I put an Atheros AR9462 wifi/BT card in the vacant WWAN slot. That reduced the heat issue, i still notice it now & again but it's far more comfortable.

With arch install Xorg 1.18 get the xf86 savage driver from AUR and that will work. Having said that the card is pretty woeful and will only be of any use in 2D.

Re: X61 Wifi/BT upgrade

The X61's WLAN slot doesn't have USB signals, that's why the Bluetooth part of your card didn't work. Only the WWAN slot has both PCIe and USB signals wired in, because it has to support both the Intel Turbo Memory card (which is a PCIe device) and the WWAN card (USB device). Nice to see that confi...

Re: T43 slow browsing with xp

It's better to use software like Minitube, which will allow you to stream videos using more efficient containers, without needing to download them. Minitube allows most 720p content to be played on a Pentium M CPU without stuttering, something which is impossible with Youtube these days, whether yo...

Youtube videos will run better if you download them first and play thru something like VLC avoiding flash. It's an inconvenience i know but allows higher res replay.

X61 Wifi/BT upgrade

I have a X61 T8100 unit that uses a intel 4965AGN wifi card without Bluetooth setup with a Korean kb/ibus on Arch Linux. I ran pacman -Syyu prior to disassembly so arch was up-to date. The palm rest as expected gets rather warm and i was fed up of the USB BT 4.0 catching on things and ending up at t...

Re: X200 - Maximum CPU frequency restricted at 1.6Ghz!

Any docs say why this happens? Why? Well, one is essentially sending charge into an object that can't be charged and that current has to go *somewhere*...so pop goes the weasel or in this case, fuse... so there is no "mechanism" in the charger to disable the changing effect in situations like this ...

Until you get a replacement battery, remove it so it can't damage your motherboard charging circuit.
