Re: Your favorite free O/S
For older hw I would recommend Debian, but look up how to dl the nonfree-iso or know how to apt get them after basic installation. The documentation on howto do this is easily found on the Debian website. It's that step IMO that people seem to think is poor hw detection, it's just that you need to a...

Re: X32 Linux/ Ubuntu support, any experiences?
The standalone DOSBox package is not a one-click thing easy to grasp for someone who has never opened any application more complex that Notepad. However, someone who is familiar with Linux, command line, configuration files, should feel right at home. Thus, I find your opinion on it rather strange,...

Re: X32 Linux/ Ubuntu support, any experiences?
DOSBox is an emulator - not a virtual machine. To get good performance you need a machine much more powerful than the one you're emulating. That's not a real problem, since any DOS software ever written was designed to run on much slower machines that we have now. Even something as old as a Pentium...

Re: X32 Linux/ Ubuntu support, any experiences?
That's great news indeed. Ubuntu looks like the best candidate to me for my needs. Any chance some of you guys have experience using Wine on Linux? Is it possible to make windows games playable on Linux, from the Win 98 era? IMO the overhead wine introduces would be too much on top of ubuntu, might...

I've run Debian 9 & Arch 32bit without issue on my X32 both on HDD and a mSATA/IDE adapter combo with the radeon gfx driver. Everything works out of the box in my experience without issue.

video replay isn't really an issue at 720p it's the webpages loading times on the social media pages.
OS/2 IMO isnt worth the effort as Debian 9 does what i need on my T43.

If you want it as a document processor where the screen & screen size come into play they are great, not so as a web browsing device where modern JS laden pages kill the single core processor.

Re: SSD guide for T60P
I've probably missed it, but where can I find instructions for configuring my T60P for an SSD? Any recommendations on current SSDs? I'm looking for a reliable 500GB SSD in the $150 range. Also, does the Middleton BIOS upgrade work for a T60P to enable SATA II speeds? And if so, where can I find it?...

Re: T61 - Windows 10, Intel Turbo Memory Controller, UltraNav
In every T6x that I ever had (and there were dozens, if not hundreds), any Turbo Memory was removed due to malfunctioning sooner rather than later. I have never noticed any difference with or without that POS. Remove palmrest and keyboard, it's the small card under the far left KB-corner. It's wort...

Openbsd got there first, there was a NDA on the bug to co-ordinate release of patches, most6 of the usual suspects had patches ready to go on the expiry of the NDA. Openbsd & MS decided to release early.

Re: Running a Samsung SSD with openSuse
I've been using Samsung solid state drives (SSDs) in (2) of my T61 laptops with no problems. OS is current version of openSuse. Recently I have been having a variety of problems with these units that appear to be related to the SSDs. Question: In the Middleton BIOS, I have set "SATA Controller Mode...

AMD/Lenovo just officially announced both: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-AMD-ThinkPads-A275-and-A475-announced-with-Bristol-Ridge.246018.0.html Presumably there will be Ryzen/Raven-Ridge based models in early 2018 at some point.
