Re: A-Series V.S. G-Series

Back in 2008 I had a G41, specifically the 2886-79U with 3.3GHz Pentium 4 and 15" SXGA+. It was a joy to use: the chassis was extremely sturdy, the non-IPS screen was surprisingly okay, and even with just 1GB of PC2700 RAM it ran Vista Home Premium quite smoothly. It might have been my first laptop ...

17.3" QHD (2560x1440) is finally available!

I recently learned that the latest Alienware 17 laptop has a 17.3" 2560x1440 option, corresponding to 169.8 DPI: https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-laptops/alienware-17-gaming-laptop/spd/alienware-17-laptop I still prefer the LG Gram 17's 17.0" 2560x1600, whose 177.6 DPI is also low enough that I ...

They have to use external HDDs to shuffle documents in and out because the free space is too small. Just add a microSDXC card. 512GB ones are now under $100, for example: https://www.amazon.com/Lexar-High-Performance-512GB-microSDXC-UHS-I/dp/B07KBQQ82D/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=512GB+microSDXC&qid=155973...

I just installed Windows 10 Enterprise 64bit on a Dell Precision T3500 tower, including all updates, and then disabled hibernation and ran Cleanmgr /sageset. Excluding the paging file, this install takes up only 9,595,342,848 bytes, or 8.93 GB.

Re: Lenovo CES 2019

I've had phones from 480p to 1080p on a 4.7-5.0" display and I really haven't come into a situation where it really mattered too much for the lower res. 480p still clocks in at over 200dpi, so it's not like 480p a huge deal like it is on say a 10" for 15" display. You probably use only apps that di...

Congratulations! Now, to ensure that you will never accidentally use too much data, go to your phone's settings and specify a monthly data limit. Worth the $0.01 gamble! Certainly. FreedomPop makes money through: 1) selling refurbished old phones for more than what they're worth; 2) users who actually pay for those non-free phone plans; and 3) people who use the free plans but accidentally exceed their monthly quota, and get charged somethin...

And is there perhaps a cheaper solution? Yes, FreedomPop has a free plan that includes, per month, 200 minutes of phone calls, 500 SMS messages, and 500MB data. I have had two smartphones on FreedomPop for just over 3 years and never had problems with data usage, although I haven't done enough text...

The 43" screens I was looking at were in the 24-25" range with stand, though I suppose I could have pushed the screen to the rear of my desk. You don't push your desktop monitors all the way to the back? I always do that in order to maximize the amount of usable desk space. In fact, by doing so, an...

I still wasn't sure I'd keep them. The pixel density was a bit higher, but what really concerned me is the new monitors were about six inches taller than the old ones, 16” vs 22”. I was mildly interested in an earlier model of the GPD UMPC (also 7" with Windows 10") and searched for them once in a while on eBay. Even the cheapest used ones always sold for >$300, so I lost interest. I would be happy to pay $300 for this new-and-improved version. If it were a 2-in-1, I would ra...

I tend to dislike cheap 22" FHD units as I feel there's not enough height. Me too. I had one or two when they were still a fairly novel entity but the novelty wore off quickly. FHD is just a lot more common than WUXGA. But in this poll I am asking about what people consider to be the ideal resolution, which isn't necessarily the best resolution they have actually used. Whenever I use FHD I feel that it's too short -- for instance it's not tall enough for viewing many PDF ...

Re: Laptop collectors: if you're allowed to collect just one laptop, which one would it be?

As for the max resolution, found somewhere that it's 2048x1536. But still has to be doublechecked. The resolution limit for VGA outputs is always stated as 2048x1536 or less, but on my QNIX QHD2410R and Monoprice 10734 monitors I have had success getting 2560x1440 and 2560x1600 from most VGA ports ...

W500 already has SSD. :parrot: That's all the more reason to go for 8GB of RAM, so you can disable the page file and reduce the number of write cycles on the SSD. I disable the page file on my Surface and HP detachables, which both have 4GB RAM, and once in a while I get a "low memory" warning even...

Looking at the poll results, I am surprised that more people picked 1920x1080 than 1920x1200. On this forum there has been so much discussion of the superiority of WUXGA vs. FHD. The PD3200U panel is definitely 32.0", not 31.5". The dimensions I measured match the datasheet almost down to the millim...

I would say it probably was chosen to save money. It was a custom made 13.3" 16:10 WXGA+ LED panel, but still TN – Lenovo could have chosen IPS panels instead, as they clearly had access to them at the time (as they were being used in X series tablets like the X61t or X200t). Ten years ago IPS pane...
