it kept reinstalling candy crush saga and candy crush soda saga and some other kid games plus unwanted software Windows 10 does not normally do that. Did you install Windows 10 on a fairly slow computer, e.g. with a Core2Duo-era CPU? After installing Win 10, you may have to wait for a while to let ...

Re: W520 displayport output into an old tube tv via RCA A/V input?

Before buying the adapters, which may not work, keep in mind that LED TVs typically consume much less power than CRT TVs: for example check this site . In the long term you would save money by getting an LED TV, versus buying the adapters and continuing to use the CRT TV. The LED TV would also doubl...

I also didn't know that the 18.4" laptops were still around, good to know that there are better options than 17.3". This Asus ROG GX800 might be the only 18.4-incher still available. For a while there were a fair number but all were only 1920x1080 or even 1680x945. Hopefully more 18.4" UHD laptops ...

Internet Explorer is by far the most keyboard-friendly browser. It's my preferred browser for that reason alone. Opera is a distant second. A few days ago IE11 died on my desktop. IE11 came up with only a white screen, nothing else. Nothing I did could get it to work again! Just reinstall it: https:...

Windows 10 UI isn't actually that bad if you customize it . What surprises me is that many people on this *computer* forum don't know that: 1) the preinstalled apps can be uninstalled; 2) the Start Menu can be resized; 3) the Start Menu icons can be resized or moved around; 4) >95% of the telemetry...

What's the width of the opening? Let me look around for HDTVs with super slim bezels, to maximize the screen size that fits.

they have a giant '90s wood entertainment center (with the stereo cabinet, dvd player, cabinets, drawers, etc etc) that they don't want to get rid of, and that only has a square opening for a max 27" tube tv. Putting in a 16:9 flatscreen to fit the max width available would be such a tiny view area...

If it wasn't for my country being ridiculous in terms of paying shipping from the US, it would be the Pavilion ZD8000. I am surprised this is the one you would have picked, as it seems to be the least special on your list. I hope so, it would be quite interesting to have a 20" laptop to lug around....

Either way, here is my list (one choice, not all of them): That's an impressive list of mostly very unique laptops, but if you can pick only one which one would it be? Laptop collectors: if you're allowed to collect just one laptop, which one would it be?

This thread is for laptop collectors. My question is, if you were allowed to collect just one laptop, which one would it be? It can be a laptop you already have in your collection, or one that you used to have, or one that you wish you had. It can also be any brand, not just Thinkpad. And it's a lap...

Re: A decent laptop with 3:2 aspect ratio

IMO this is the most appealing 3:2 laptop yet. 2.76 lb is fairly light for a 13.5-incher. I failed to mention that, due to the 3:2 aspect, the screen area of this 13.5" Surface Laptop 2 (84.12 sq. inches) is actually a little bit greater than that of a 14.0" laptop with 16:9 aspect ratio (83.75 sq....

This looks like the 13.7" version, with a unique 1280x1024 resolution and hence 5:4 aspect ratio. The 14.1" version would have less wasted bezel space on the left and right sides. The 13.7" 770Z is one of the handful of Thinkpads I once wanted to own but never got. Congratulations!

Both the HP Pavilion x2 and Microsoft Surface 3 in my signature are 3:2 detachables, with 12.0" 1920x1280 and 10.8" 1920x1280 respectively. This mid-range resolution is jus...

Are you guys using it for Win10 etc? Yes absolutely. Having lots of real estate (in terms of pixel count, not monitor size) is crucial for office work, data analysis, and multitasking. On all three 40” UHD monitors I run Windows 10 at its native 100% scaling, so they actually display four times as ...

without a start menu. Like I said, there is Classic Shell for bringing that back in Win 8.1. The bigger point here is that I don't see anything that even a tweaked 8.1 would offer me that W7 doesn't. Have you considered Windows 8.1? The full-screen Metro Start Menu is annoying, but you can use Classic Shell to bring back the Classic Start Menu. Other than the Metro Start Menu, Windows 8.1 resembles Win 7 more than Win 10 both functionally and visually, and its right-click Start Menu is awesome. ...

Certainly every major manufacturer occasionally puts out some new, innovative stuff, be it a retracting keyboard for 360° convertibles (a good idea)
