If the knob is easier to implement for you, then move toward than direction.
I already decided for keyboard shortcuts when I designed the ThreadPad. I didn't want to complicate the design by adding a pot.

Re: IBM Thinkpad 380ED Keyboard and Trackpoint to USB

Problem is, only the bare sensor is on the keyboard, while the Trackpoint circuitry is on the system board. Thanks for the explanation. Fortunately, that changed. IMO the fastest way to support those commands is similar to what OP has done: implement them internally and control them with new keyboa...

Re: IBM Thinkpad 380ED Keyboard and Trackpoint to USB

Doesn't the TrackPoint in the 380ED talk PS/2? A long term project for me is to convert an X41 keyboard to Bluetooth. The Trackpoint in that keyboard speaks PS/2, and with proprietary commands features such as sensitivity can be controlled. Also it supports negative inertia, which I find essential f...

ThinkPad TrackPoint Keyboard II

At the moment, I am using the old ThinkPad Compact Bluetooth Keyboard with TrackPoint together with a classic dome TrackPoint cap . This keyboard is full of bugs and overall pretty awful. Until I finish building my own Bluetooth keyboard, based on an X41 keyboard, I am thinking about getting a Think...

Call them expensive, call them cheap :) https://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=127530 Thanks! I'll first give the Chinese a few days or weeks to reply to my RFQ. It would be interesting to look up how much I paid for caps in the past, when purchased directly from IBM spare parts service.

I still have some 40-50 of them, genuine, new, made in Japan.
If you don't need them, I'd take them, depending on price. But first, I'll wait for quotes on Alibaba (not super optimistic, though).

Good question. I just created an Alibaba RFQ for the classic dome caps, but it got rejected: "The product you've requested was found to be a 'Prohibited Product'and therefore breaches our Product Listing Policy." Apparently the AI got upset by "cat's tongue". Removed that, and waiting for off...

Have same result (half black/grey half white, distortions and flickering) with damaged B140QAN01.1 panel. Second B140QAN01.1 that local seller have in stock works fine. So my guess you have damaged screen. It is worth checking connectors tho. I reseated the connectors, same result. If it is a damag...

They are completely in the way! May look so on the pictures. From my experience and tested with various devices, however, the cables - inspired by suspension bridges - neither obscure the screen nor do they interfere with typing: They're on the side. The design allows easy adjustment of tilt angle,...

If that's actually the culprit, then you've been quite lucky managing to run a dying drive for more than a year. Fortunately, the OS and all important data is on the main disk (Hitachi HTS541010G9AT00). The disk in the UltraBay (Samsung HM160HC) was primarily a target for daily incremental backups ...

The freezes eventually stopped, but over the past months there has been a BSOD about once per day. However, all these months I ignored an important parameter: The S.M.A.R.T. status of th...

T41 space key suddenly unreliable - fix?

Since some days, when I hit the space key off center, it sometimes doesn't register a key press. I already cleaned mechanics with isopropanol, and it looks like new, but the issue persists.
