Re: 3 W510 4318-CTO questions

Unfortunately no. Turn over your W510 over and open this memory cover and see how many memory slots do you have? Two or one? In fact last night because could not sleep so tried 2x 8GB (16GB) memory in my T410 and will not boot at windows splash. For i7-620M (dual core), is 8GB (DDR3-1333 2Rx8 which ...

Re: 3 W510 4318-CTO questions

If this notebook says not enough wattage, that means need to have 170W if you have a quad core with 4 memory slots notebook, to be sure there are 2 checks to check: Just turn over your W510 then open your memory cover with a #1 philips screwdriver and take a look, if you have two memory slots, that ...

Re: 3 W510 4318-CTO questions

Ideally, 2 matched pairs yet BEST 100% reliable is four matched modules, DDR3 only. Can use DDR3-1600 too but will run at 1333 on this quad core CPU. Important to use 2Rx8 (16 chips per module). Ebay will help you with getting OEM memory, does not have to be thinkpad OEM, any memory modules with sti...

Re: OEM T520 charger on T60p?

I used same 90W adapters on T60, R61, T420 and couple T410, T520 is similar to T420 and I can't see why you could use 135W power adapter with no problems. I'm interested to see how you mod your T60p is it 15.6" or 15.1"? Also photos of modified heatsink is helpful for us. :) Cheers, thinkpadcollection

Re: Bench Supply from a PC PSU

No no,, Not the loose wires. Just replace both resistors in the power supply. There are voltage divider formulas online. There are 2 resistors that forms voltage divider from a TL494's output regulated supply voltage to ground with a 2.5V reference voltage to a TL494 PWM voltage monitoring pin contr...

Re: Bench Supply from a PC PSU

Find the PSU feedback chip that monitors the outputs and make a new voltage resistor divider to raise the 12V to 15V. Perfectly within the rectifier output voltages. I did this to power a toshiba notebook years ago.

I did buy two R52 with GPU from ebay this way and rebuild with your choice of motherboard. Easier this way and cheaper. I need to clarify on your comments: TPFanatic's The dedicated T40, R50, T60, R60, and Z60 series use a thermal pad between the DGPU heat spreaders and the Heatsink fan. You should ...

Problem with any cooling limited T4x series is not enough aluminum fins surface area, rather go and get 15" R52 chassis with GPU then transplant your T43p motherboard into R52 chassis, this will net you a 100% copper heatsink of better construction with taller copper fins resulting in much better he...

Typically most notebooks till Tx20 and 15W CPUs era are usually 3 hours and very rare ones makes to 5+ hours range. Just hunt down a ivy-bridge 17W or haswell 15W notebooks and go from there and they are more lighter and smaller, good 6 hour plus range with 6 cell battery pack or internal battery. I...

$90? Go for V6 this will give you ECC as a bonus, more important than before especially dealing with large data or VM in memory for part of paid work, carefully consider future cost of upgrading between 32GB now or later? Just take T530 with GPU and run with it. 128 bit GPU vram helps. And T530 is quad core capable, no mods if the 2 pipe heatsink can take 45W quad core. There's 3 pipe heatsink to do it if needed is for T530 too. T530 Chassis is same as W530 if one likes to swap boards to W530 plus W530 heatsink will ...

This MIcron C400 in capacity of 128GB like any 128GB or smaller tend to have very low write bandwidth plus should be partitioned to 120GB so 8GB is left alone for defect reallocation. And this SSD came out in 2012. Even that age and C400 with poor reviews (50% typically). I would just swap them all ...
