Re: WTB 8GB Memory for T500

Cheap! Two 4 GB modules are needed for my T500 coming next Thursday. Will trade for two 2's, or a 100GB 7200 RPM drive too. Hitachi I think, but I can check to be sure if interested. I'd really rather buy the memory outright though so I don't have to fool with packing and shipping. Eight chips on o...

Re: T420 16gb RAM success stories? Will ECC (or "registered") work?

IIRC, "EDD RAM" is also called "server RAM" and is designed for use in servers. This because the average server, sitting near sea level, will have 4 memory errors each year from cosmic ray hits. Honest. It gets much worse at altitude. So, real servers use 9-bit ECC RAM instead of conventional 8-bit...

WTB teal mushkin p/n 996564 PC2-6400 2GB or a pair.

Or black 991557 2GB or a pair. A ebay seller was no help on resolving the mis-matched memory module and I need to match up either one of mushkin. Note I have excellent experience with mushkin and works every time. Also I have one Samsung 2GB PC2-6400-666-12-E3 that I need to pair up with another: M3...

Re: What computer have you had for the longest? When did you get it?

Given the new parameters, my oldest PC is the HTPC I built in 2010. It's got a 45w AMD Athlon II x4 600e, which still offers respectable performance, along with 4GB of PC6400 DDR2 Memory, a 2TB and 8TB hard drives, and a 90GB OCZ Agility III SSD as the boot drive. It's snappy and has been humming a...

Or get a external box with ESATA using usb plug as power or an SATA to eSATA with USB as power adapter cable. I have a line on one so I can do it since I have number of computers of all types that are unpowered eSATA ports.

Other option is get T530 and get ivy bridge quad with 8MB cache (specifically 45W type) and find T530 3 heatpipes heatsink on ebay and call it a day. Also someone mentioned that GPU width is 128bits instead of T520 64bit wide. The T520 does not have good heatsink design anyway and does not fit due t...

Yes this is correct way to do this using 9.5mm to 7mm rubber rails and caddy kit. I have one in my one of thinkpad using 7mm HD. Do not buy Seagate 2TB rotating HD based on 7mm chassis. Slower than usual even for 1TB per platter design and despite the 128MB buffer. Get Samsung/Seagate 3 platter 2TB ...
