Touch pad update
Thanks for your response - that's apparently what happened. It baffles me why they would not give the laptop a quick once over before shipping it back - checking the touch pad would have taken them all of 2 secs to confirm that it wasn't working. Now I have to take it apart and hope I don't break so...

T42 screen fixed by IBM but now Touchpad is gone
I just got my T42 back from IBM after a new LCD screen was put in to replace the original that had developed some odd bluish spots. I'm happy to say that the screen looks great but for some reason my Touchpad no longer functions (I know many of you would not see that as an issue but I happen to like...

I am bummed out. I talked with the IBM guy I mentioned earlier in my thread and as soon as I told him about the blue spots he basically said I was out of luck. Apparently that's indicative of a cracked screen, which is considered accidental damage and not covered under the standard warranty. I have ...

Thanks!
Thanks everybody for your responses. I definitely plan on taking pictures of the laptop to be sure that its "pristine" condition is documented. I may try to get it fixed locally through my company's IBM relationship (we use T42s throughout the company) - not sure if they'll handle personal PCs but t...

T42 repair - To do or not to do
I just discovered two button size bluish spots neat the top of my flexview LCD screen on my T42 SMB Centrino -1.7G5 XPP 15-SVGA 60GB DVD/CDRW 2379DXU. It's only 8 months old and has the 3-yr warranty but after scanning on-line through some of the horror stories about people getting their laptops bac...

How to disable search for security chip when booting up T42.
At one time I had enabled the client security chip logon feature on my T42 but decided to disable it after a while. I went into the BIOS to turn off the chip but upon boot up the system is still trying to access the chip before aborting, which slows down the boot process by 20-30 seconds. No biggy b...

Periodic HP Format - IBM DLA displays and runs on my IBM T42
I have an IBM T42 (23728ZU) with a CDRW/DVD Optical drive. I'm using IBM's DLA process to allow writing backups to my drive as needed but every once in a while when I boot up a message box displays stating that the HP Fast Format IBM-DLA is in progress. This bascially wipes out whatever I have on my...

I just picked one up and I have to say the sound is pretty amazing - almost blew my headphones off. I ordered a pair of Altec Lansing portable USB speakers and I'll see how they sound when they get in. I like bringing the laptop along for watching DVDs on flights and listening to music - it may be o...

I had a similar problem and ended up going through the network wizard to recreate the connection. That seemed to fix the problem but a number of things can cause this to happen. Try that. I would also be careful about updating the latest drivers for the Intel adapter (2200 I believe) - I had problem...
