Re: Thinkpad 25 trackpoint caps where?

Oh, nasty! Lenovo isn't even using the standard old IBM ones for the TP25 Retrograde!!! That's horrible because there's going to be a point where you won't be able to get trackpoint caps once they discontinue it completely. At least with the old IBM keyboards I still have loads of trackpoint caps av...

Re: David Hill plans to show his personal T25 shortly

Yeah, I guess DH had a two day long social media interest frenzy, then remembered he's retired and went fishing. DH had his media frenzy, got some lenovobucks--then realized he was both retired and the lenovobucks hit his bank account. At which point he then went off to his fishing trip while grabb...

X1 Carbon 4 - audio jack dying

So it looks like on my X1 Carbon 4th gen, the audio jack is starting to fail. I suspect it's the solder joint because all of the I/O is under high stress. IBM sometimes did it where the I/O jacks were on dedicated PCBs (like the power jack) or extended in a particular way to reduce said stress. Leno...

Where are those TP 25 keyboards going?

I happened to notice this listing
https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Thinkpad-A ... 3616020470

I'm sort of wondering, who is buying those keyboards and for what purpose. Perhaps a spare--but more importantly, maybe some frankenstein project?

They can do it with Linux ( https://www.slackwiki.com/Install_Slackware_Using_A_USB_Flash_Drive ), maybe their instructions can help? I doubt it somehow since OS/2 is not available as a single bootable ISO... It might work with eCS though, but I've never heard of anyone trying and succeeding with a...

Re: In defense of the Thinkpad 25

What people *do* hate is the way Lenovo went about a lot of things over the past decade - all discussed ad nauseam on this forum and elsewhere - and crowned it with the slap in the face that many perceive TP25 to be after the entire "Retro" charade. Yeah exactly. It's Lenovo's *attitude* problem; t...

Okay... so I compared both of TTAV's ROMs, and verified the T43 and T40/41/42 ROMs are very much identical. Therefore I took the T43 .ISO and edited it with the T42 .ISO, the F.bat needed some changes (this is the part that I'm not 100% certain on but I don't think it's super necessary?) I went ahea...

So I just went ahead and created an IBM flashing diskette The problem is... I do have FireFox 48.0.2 and Windows 7 installed on my maxed out T23 and A30p. Negatory, that's a TransNote (one way to tell is due to the capslock being integrated on the left shift). I've always wanted a 240, though. But then I have way too many thinkpads as it is, and DOS and 9x gaming are best with a CRT and OPL3.

Just take one keycap off, and examine the underlying switch. All 3 manufacturers have pretty distinct switches, AFAIR. Well on the T6x keyboards, all manufacturers had very discreet switches, and sometimes for the T43 series. But when it came to the T40, T41, and T42 there were a lot of variances o...

The mystery of FRU 08K4986

After using my 14.1" T41 a lot more (and really digging its keyboard and ultra-clicky trackpoint button assembly--which is even better than what I had experienced on the T43), I decided to look up the FRUs in the HMM. Sadly, "08K4986" was nowhere to be seen. Even more strangely the 14.1" models for ...

Do you know the kind of PCMCIA card it is? I think I would have to have one as well to test and troubleshoot for my T41 (which I regularly use with OS/2, now). I'm technically using ArcaOS since it's easier and has more features out of the box. But the same should apply at least.

If you want it as a document processor where the screen & screen size come into play they are great, not so as a web browsing device where modern JS laden pages kill the single core processor. Well like I said, with OS/2 you can watch youtube and browse most things comfortably. And that's on a Bani...

The L200p displays use LG panels internally. You'll note that they have a surprisingly low ghosting rate, making them pretty darn decent for gaming!

LG panels for some reason are designed very well in that regard. I may even like LG over IDtech :p

It really depends on one's needs and expectations. I own a SATA-modded T43p, running an Intel X-25E SLC SSD and love it dearly. Having said that, web experiences in both W7 and Linux are less than stellar. The system struggles with today's web architecture due to its single-core CPU and no amount o...

t's the opposite. In the CPU department, the T41 is much better (don't make the mistake of thinking a Pentium M is anything like a Pentium 4-M), and in the GPU department they are more or less equivalent, depending on the exact GPU in the T41. Neither is pleasant to use in a modern environment, unl...
