Creating an ArcaOS (OS/2) Bootable USB Stick

So if you've purchased any of the latest ArcaOS versions, they come with the USB creation utility since ArcaOS 5.0.2. However, the included instructions for creating a USB stick are a bit vague, in some cases redundant and missing instructions. The default instructions are this massive wall of text:...

Re: Ati FireGL failing VRAMs - was thermopad the culprit?

I would honestly forget about the thermal pillows and use a W500/T500 heatsink and shave down the protruding heatblock and use that instead; then the heatsink contacts the GPU directly via thermal paste. Then with ThinkPad fan controller software you can run the fan at max speed (which is still a de...

Re: Installing OS/2 Warp 4.52 in 2017

I have a brand new in the box OS2 Warp version 3 with an install CD and the bonus pack CD. Is this of any use to anyone? I suppose not if you can't apply updates or if you already have a newer ISO. The boxes are pretty collectible these days and look nice. The Warp 3 ISO has already been dumped in ...

Re: Getting Files into an OS/2 VirtualBox VM

VirtualBox *does not* support copying files between a guest and a host--it only supports copying *text* between the two; the fine print is misleading. So--even if you were to try and install a Windows VM you wouldn't be able to copy files from your host to the client :) Larry Ellison thanks you for ...

Re: OS/2 on X21?

Yep. SciTech SNAP seems to support the ATI Rage Mobility so you get accelerated graphics, too. In regards to the Audio/Ethernet they use different chips than the T43 so you'd have to hunt down the driver packs for those (it's possible IBM even had official OS/2 drivers for the X21 but I never checke...

Re: Warp 4.52 bootlogo and bitmaps folder to eComStation?

Switch to ArcaOS so you get JFS support instead. That way you can replace whatever files through AIX or Linux. EDM2 has some info here on what needs to be replaced: http://www.edm2.com/index.php/Personalize_Your_OS/2_Warp_Boot_Screen Use PMView to save the appropriate image format (because MAKELOGO ...

Re: A31p - a decade later (LONG)

T-series were the "slimline", while A-series were those to wield the power. No match with T41p performance-wise? Well try to convince your eyes thet they prefer T41 display vs A31p's Flexview. I can stare at those displays. With no pain, but joy. My T41 has the 1400x1050 display, it's pretty crisp ...

Re: TrackPoint excruciatingly slow

Did anyone figure out what driver we can install in Windows to get back the sensitivity setting? This is driving me insane. Windows 10 as it was getting ready to update broke my trackpoint driver and set the sensitivity back to default. And it did it twice after I rebooted. You can try setting the ...

Re: ArcaOS 5.00 on an Lenovo IdeaPad?

I believe it's because of the storage, actually: "eMMC CARD SANDISK iNAND 32GB"
OS/2 (and ArcaOS) do not support M.2, only traditional SATA at the moment.

Installing ArcaOS from a USB stick works flawlessly assuming the destination is IDE or SATA.

Re: TrackPoint excruciatingly slow

Linux live CD was a great suggestion. I booted in there and set the sensitivity to a reasonable value and all worked great, so clearly this was a driver issue in Windows. It looks like there was a driver update that was forced upon me earlier this year that caused this. The solution was to uninstal...

Oh, nasty! Lenovo isn't even using the standard old IBM ones for the TP25 Retrograde!!! At least with the old IBM keyboards I still have loads of trackpoint caps av...

X1 Carbon 4 - audio jack dying

So it looks like on my X1 Carbon 4th gen, the audio jack is starting to fail. I suspect it's the solder joint because all of the I/O is under high stress. IBM sometimes did it where the I/O jacks were on dedicated PCBs (like the power jack) or extended in a particular way to reduce said stress. Leno...

What people *do* hate is the way Lenovo went about a lot of things over the past decade - all discussed ad nauseam on this forum and elsewhere - and crowned it with the slap in the face that many perceive TP25 to be after the entire "Retro" charade. Yeah exactly. It's Lenovo's *attitude* problem; t...

Okay... so I compared both of TTAV's ROMs, and verified the T43 and T40/41/42 ROMs are very much identical.
