Re: Internet browser for T23 and older without SSE2 (Pentium III)

I do have FireFox 48.0.2 and Windows 7 installed on my maxed out T23 and A30p. They work just fine, if you only open a few tabs, install adblocker and also keep the browser debloated, and max out RAM. Of course, if you expect them to run like a brand new Lamborghini instead of a functional Volkswag...

Is that a 240 in the second picture?
Negatory, that's a TransNote (one way to tell is due to the capslock being integrated on the left shift). I've always wanted a 240, though. But then I have way too many thinkpads as it is, and DOS and 9x gaming are best with a CRT and OPL3.

I have an "intellistation M pro 6225-CTO" HMM memory specs call for PC2-3200 ECC DIMMs In 2005 max was 1GB, but now 2GB seems to be available--physically same size, but double row of chips instead of single. will these 2GBers serve as memory in my machine? thanks I actually own one of these machine...

Re: The mystery of FRU 08K4986

Just take one keycap off, and examine the underlying switch. All 3 manufacturers have pretty distinct switches, AFAIR. Well on the T6x keyboards, all manufacturers had very discreet switches, and sometimes for the T43 series. But when it came to the T40, T41, and T42 there were a lot of variances o...

The mystery of FRU 08K4986

After using my 14.1" T41 a lot more (and really digging its keyboard and ultra-clicky trackpoint button assembly--which is even better than what I had experienced on the T43), I decided to look up the FRUs in the HMM. Sadly, "08K4986" was nowhere to be seen. Even more strangely the 14.1" models for ...

Re: PCMCIA on T41

Do you know the kind of PCMCIA card it is? I think I would have to have one as well to test and troubleshoot for my T41 (which I regularly use with OS/2, now). I'm technically using ArcaOS since it's easier and has more features out of the box. But the same should apply at least.

Re: Those who own the 15" T4xp laptops, how useful are they in 2017?

If you want it as a document processor where the screen & screen size come into play they are great, not so as a web browsing device where modern JS laden pages kill the single core processor. Well like I said, with OS/2 you can watch youtube and browse most things comfortably. And that's on a Bani...

Re: Thinkpad 25 triple-screen desk setup with IBM Thinkvision L200p monitors

The L200p displays use LG panels internally. You'll note that they have a surprisingly low ghosting rate, making them pretty darn decent for gaming!

LG panels for some reason are designed very well in that regard. I may even like LG over IDtech :p

Re: Those who own the 15" T4xp laptops, how useful are they in 2017?

It really depends on one's needs and expectations. I own a SATA-modded T43p, running an Intel X-25E SLC SSD and love it dearly. Having said that, web experiences in both W7 and Linux are less than stellar. The system struggles with today's web architecture due to its single-core CPU and no amount o...

Re: A31p - a decade later (LONG)

t's the opposite. In the CPU department, the T41 is much better (don't make the mistake of thinking a Pentium M is anything like a Pentium 4-M), and in the GPU department they are more or less equivalent, depending on the exact GPU in the T41. Neither is pleasant to use in a modern environment, unl...

Re: OS/2 Warp 4.52 on a ThinkPad T43 / T43p

There was something I just happened to see in the T43 manual: If you are using OS/2 in the default format, HPFS, you cannot create a hibernation file. If you want to use hibernation mode, you will need to reinstall OS/2 with FAT format. And it's true, I wasn't able to get the T43 to properly 'hibern...

I'd just like to announce that I've managed to get OS/2 working on my T420 today!!! Needed to change BIOS setting for SATA to AHCI to get it to boot. Did you manage to get wifi or sound working? Or is it just basic functionality? (IBM supported all of the hardware on the T43 with OS/2, fortunately).

No, I was referring to 2.5" SCSI *exclusively* (not other hard disk technologies; of which you're missing some like ESDI and PS/2 all-in-one hard disks). Well Lenovo would also have to provide support and warranty, among other things. So there are a few more things to consider that 51NB has the luxury of ignoring.

You'd need to configure Xorg in some fashion (unfortunately it's fairly unstable and often drops custom settings). One of the worst pieces of software I've ever had the pleasure to deal with.

Virtually all Linux distros use X.org, so that's how the TrackPoint would have to be configured under. Unfortunately X.org is programmed quite poorly and after trying a bunch of things, it's just not possible to get the same awesome TrackPoint sensitivity as you can under Windows|OS/2 with Linux. Did you check the Windows 10 event viewer / bluescreenview?
Did you try running the laptop in something other than Windows 10 like in the UEFI/BIOS for an extended period of time to see if it locks there?
Did you run a memory test with memtestx86+?

It's time for operation: 'give me back that soft rim and defy China's lenovo!' That means of course, hacking an exsiting soft rim. First the assessment.
