Re: T440p upgrades/palmrest compatibility

1. I don't think the fingerprint reader are interchangeably but I might be wrong 2. Yes, FHD and regular lower resolutions use the same eDP 2-lane cable, brightness should work unless you have a T450 in which you need specific Lenovo FRU LCD's in order for brightness to work under Windows 3. Power ...

Re: Processor upgrade with T440p

Just to add my £0.02, I have a 4700MQ in my T440p, and it seems to be absolutely fine thermally. At idle, the temps are exactly the same as the i3-4100M it replaced, which is as expected really. I'd imagine Haswell probably power gates all but one core when idle anyway, so there wouldn't be much dif...

T440p upgrades/palmrest compatibility

Hi all, I've recently decided to treat myself to a nice little upgrade, and replace my trusty T420 with a T440p. I found a 'fixer-upper' on Ebay, that is a low spec base model to upgrade, and won it for £115. When it arrived I discovered it was actually specced better than the listing claimed: it cl...

Re: What's killing my X1?

Yeah, this has lead to confusion in the past. Since the X1 was pretty rare most people automatically assume I mean the X1C... RBS, that was one of the first things I tried. In both situations (main+CMOS batteries and charger out, left overnight, then hold down power for 30 seconds, replug CMOS and c...

Re: What's killing my X1?

The main charger I'm using is the 90W one that came with my T420, and yes I've used it with the new one for about a week now, and the T420 for about 6 years, though I usually alternate between about 3 or so chargers that stay plugged in in various rooms. Interesting that it requires a 90W adapter, I...

What's killing my X1?

Hi there, So I have an original X1 (1291-CTO), the pre-carbon model with the i5-2520M. Had it for around a year now, until not long ago (must have been around early November) it died on me. Was just sitting on my desk, when it shut down and all lights went out. Unplugged the charger/battery, and the...

Re: T510. Power Button Inoperable? Work-around?

Also, does the T410 have a fingerprint reader or an option in the BIOS to power up when the AC addapter is inserted? When the motherboard connector for the power butto broke on my X1, I used that and the fingerprint reader to start it up

Thanks, I'll try a BIOS update and see what happens

EDIT: I tried a BIOS update, and the problem still persists... I have to say, I'm completely stumped by this one!

Pricing opinions for a (mostly) working T61

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could give me an estimate on how much the remains of my old T61p would be likely to go for. I bought this for school years ago and it's served me pretty well, and was my daily driver until I upgraded to a T420 last year. It's not in the best condition ever, but aside fr...

AC power light comes on when running off battery...

Hi, sorry to keep having to create these threads but it seems my somewhat sizable collection of Thinkpads are all developing problems these days! Anyway, the current culprit is an X200 frankenpad system (X200 T9550 mobo, in an X201 base and 1280x800 X201s lid). The problem is that for some reason, i...

Re: X200s mental temps!

Sorry it's been ages since I replied to this post, it's been a busy week or so! I would try to analyse the air flow dynamics. The fan positioning and obviously the vents spacing relative to the fan will form part of this framework. This appears to happen regardless of whether the motherboard is encl...

Re: X200s mental temps!

Hi, thanks for the response. 1 - No, I haven't, as for reasons unfathomable, lenovo decided to rotate the mounting screws on the standard heatsink by 90 degrees, meaning it won't fit on an 'S' motherboard. I'll try and see if I can pick up a new heatsink relatively cheaply and try that. 2 - Possible...

X200s mental temps!

Hello, it's me again! I haven't had much time to sort out my various thinkpads recently, but now that exams and such are over for a while, I am once again free to wave my hands in frustration at my collection of X-series. This time it's the X200s* (again). I say X200s, it's actually an X200s motherb...

I doubt I'll need one of those, I have a working X201 that charges batteries just fine. I guess I'll just have to remember to charge them in that before I go anywhere!

Re: X200 Battery charging issue

I don't have an ultrabase, but I suppose I could use my X201 as a sort of charging station. Not ideal, but I may have to live with it... I'll have a look with an oscilloscope/multimeter if I can bring it into the lab one day, but not really sure what components I'd be testing... Also, as far as I ca...

Re: X200 Battery charging issue

I'm pretty sure it isn't the batteries, as It does this with the standard lenovo 6-cell, and both 9-cells I own, which also work fine on an x201 I have spare. rkawakami, I've had a look at every component around that section of the motherboard (and quite far beyond it) on both sides, and can't seem ...

Thanks for the info, how would one go about diagnosing/repairing such things, if it is indeed possible, or is the board basically useless?

Re: Fixing a problematic T61p...

It started up again fine yesterday, with no power problems. Having said that, replacing the motherboard with an intel one is probably what I'll end up doing when I come across one very cheap. On another point, do you think it could be motherboard/screen related that my T61 seems to go through invert...

X200 Battery charging issue

Hi, sorry if this should go in the other thread, but I felt it was different enough th warrant its own thread... Re: X200 modifications

Also, cleaning the thermal compound and reapplying some paste might be a good idea. I've applied fresh thermal paste several times now, and it's now improved to the point where it no longer reaches thermal shutdown if I lock it at 800MHz. The problem is, it still runs at around 85C, even when the m...

Re: X200 modifications

An AFFS screen will probably be my next upgrade for it. Unfortunately It will probably have to be the Matte version as I can't stand glossy screens, and getting them shipped to the UK can also turn pretty expensive... Also, I've swapped out the motherboard for an X200s board (1.8GHz L9400) hoping fo...

Re: Fixing a problematic T61p...

IMO this goes to the "replace motherboard immediately" category, unless you're handy with an oscilloscope and have a copy of the schematics. That's what I feared... Oh well, it had a decent enough run... I think it's the reverse: there's an Atheros wifi card inside, but the system has difficulty ac...

Fixing a problematic T61p...

Hi, I bought a used T61p 6457-7WG a few years back that used to be my main laptop, until I replaced it with a T420 about a year ago when it started having...difficulties. Being a somewhat sentimental sort, I decided to keep it around as a backup and just to tinker around with, and it's lasted pretty...

Re: X200 modifications

Thanks! A complete WXGA+ lid seems unlikely for anything I can afford right now, so I guess I'll be sticking with the original screen since I won't have to pay anything extra to have it fully functional. Who knows, I might even be able to get a Hydis panel later down the road!

Re: X200 modifications

Thank you for the quick reply! In your opinion, would it be worth it to switch the two screens in order to increase battery life (I know it would mean I'd forefeit the opportunity to go AFFS, but on my student loan that ain't happening anytime soon! )

Cheers,

X200 modifications

Hi everyone, I'm a bit of a newbie here so I thought I'd ask for some informed opinions before I completely ruin my X200! As you can probably tell, I have an X200 (7459-M78) with a CCFL that I have until recently, been using for university. A little while ago it developed a fault where the battery r...
