All exterior parts of a 14.1" 4:3 T60 will fit perfectly onto a 14.1" 4:3 T61 (base cover needs slight modification, though). Those buttons work even when I was messing around and installed DOS and W95 and always worked on my Linux console!
Those buttons doesn't use any driver as far as I know, but maybe you installed some software that took over and now your mixer program doesn't recognise them.
