Clarification on scaling

oh, ok. You're referring to the Gen. 4 X1 Carbon [2016]. That's a different model than the X1 Tablet, which is a separate series, but I am interested in that as well. You must be talking about the 1440p screen. 2560x1440. I am interested in that. Can you comfortably view two Word documents side-by-...

4th generation clarification

Hi SurrealMustard, The latest iteration of the X1 Carbon Tablet came out around July, if I am not mistaken. That is said to be the 3rd generation (2018). https://www.neowin.net/news/lenovo-thinkpad-x1-tablet-review-its-way-better-than-a-surface-pro/ Is there a newer version than that? I have not he...

My preliminary thoughts

I can't speak for the 3rd generation, but the fourth is more powerful in every way than the base Sandy Bridge chipset in the X230 series. Heck, it even manages to match my Dell Precision M6400, (primary/daily) and that thing has a big dedicated GPU. In short, performance has been nothing short of as...

You might actually have a different issue then because we're hearing the same problem always, regardless of network activity or connectivity. I noticed exactly same problem some time ago. Noise appears at volume about 20...36%, very noticeable when listening to piano or ambient music. Maybe I haven...

Thank you for the information; here's what we know

I noticed this at times in Windows 10, no idea what causes it or how to fix. It does what it wants. You can always just switch to the Windows Classic cursor which is what I use. Thanks to this thread, we know exactly what causes it, which is first-use of the scroll button for the Trackpoint. The go...

Different model, Different OS, Different driver, same problem

Just to add another data point to this, I found that this seems to affect newer drivers as well. Driver version 19.3.4.214 on the fourth-generation X1 Carbon is doing the same exact thing, although it's not as big of a bother on there because it actually has a competent trackpad, reducing/eliminatin...

Seems like a non-starter

1) There was a guy at the Lenovo forums who said he's successfully installed both the Lenovo/Thinkpad 18260 card and its corresponding antennae, so WiGig worked for him. Just look for "TripleX1" posting dated 20-Oct-2016: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Lenovo-ThinkPad-X1-Yoga...

Question on adding WiGig to 4th-generation Carbon

I've been trying out the fourth-generation X1 Carbon lately and saw that models with the tri-band 18260 Intel card support the wireless dock protocol "WiGig." The unit I'm using has only the dual-band, and I wouldn't mind being able to use a dock station, so I was pricing out the options. What I fou...

Cursors refuse to animate on ThinkPad X230

I've been working with this new ThinkPad X230 and am pretty happy with where everything is at now. Unfortunately, I've encountered a weird bug where any of Windows's mouse pointers that should be animated (namely the "busy" and "working in background") are simply not animated. If I go into the point...

Similarity to the old way of doing things

I've been comparing it with the X200, and it does feel different somehow, but I can't exactly pinpoint how. I think that it's got to be the buttons; they do feel more concise on the X200. I do feel even more confident with it now, however, having switched caps from "soft rim" to "soft dome." I was ...

Well, I have an X230T arriving tomorrow so hopefully I'm not too turned off by the bulk of it. I followed almost the same journey. Firefox "originalist" since 2008, used it well past the time when things went off the rails until sometime around 2014, when I switched to Pale Moon. At the time, it was modern, fast, and feature-rich, especially when compared with its mainstream rivals. It was gr...

Well, I pulled the trigger on an X230 since writing that post and have had mixed feelings; mostly positive. Performance, battery life, the keyboard, the (IPS) screen, and design/portability are all top-notch, but the trackpad lives up to its notoriety for being bad (we're talking 50-60% as efficient...

I'd have to agree... in the opposite

Not sure where you found one that's "slow and sluggish." The X230 I picked up is far too touchy with the standard driver for Windows 10. I had to actually install the old driver, turn the sensitivity down to its second-lowest configuration, record the registry setting , (I found 7 to be best, while ...

So I recently sold my X230 (non-tablet) and have been trying to find a replacement. Clarification

This forum should not be used to spread misinformation. Most Windows 10 machines shut down just fine. This machine won't stop the moon light flashing after hibernation, although it does, in fact, hibernate. The behavior is consistent with a temporarily-installed Win 8.1. It's a hardware issue of so...

I don't think that the Power Manager utility has anything to do with it on this machine. Okay, this isn't actually a ThinkPad question specifically, but I know we've got a lot of knowledgeable Windows folks here, and the Dell Precision in question is somewhat similar to a comparably-sized ThinkPad  . I fixed up this T43 for my father, but it looks to be having an odd issue. After some time, the screen will get very dim and the computer stops accepting input, although I can see from the clock in the corner that it is still running. The only key it will respond to in this state is the power key, w...
