Second-generation Carbon no-boot after firmware update

I'm dealing with a second-generation X1 Carbon, (20A8) fresh off the eBay boat. Loaded up Windows, installed Lenovo System Update, and let it (and Windows) begin the process of installing drivers and patches. After reaching the home stretch, I opted to install the newest version of the motherboard f...

Vertical Scrolling speed gets reset at time of logon [X1C4]

This has been an issue for a while now, and on previous builds of Windows as well. Pretty much every time I log in, the setting that specifies the number of lines to scroll always resets back to 1. I usually set it to 4 or 5 for best results when scrolling with the TrackPoint. I've tried SysInternal...

after doing some testing I'm pretty sure that it's the 65w ac adaptor being maxed out so i ordered a 90w one that should work better. plus a USB hub so i can plug everything in.
Keep us posted. I'm curious to find out if the glitches go away when using the 90watt adapter.

3 Monitors

I can say from experience that the maximum on the 4th generation X1 Carbon is 3 monitors, however, one of those monitors has to be the built-in display. According to Intel's official support bulletin , you could also probably get 3 independent external displays going, (without the laptop screen) but...

Clarification on scaling

oh, ok. You're referring to the Gen. 4 X1 Carbon [2016]. That's a different model than the X1 Tablet, which is a separate series, but I am interested in that as well. You must be talking about the 1440p screen. 2560x1440. I am interested in that. Can you comfortably view two Word documents side-by-...

4th generation clarification

Hi SurrealMustard, The latest iteration of the X1 Carbon Tablet came out around July, if I am not mistaken. That is said to be the 3rd generation (2018). https://www.neowin.net/news/lenovo-thinkpad-x1-tablet-review-its-way-better-than-a-surface-pro/ Is there a newer version than that? I have not he...

My preliminary thoughts

I can't speak for the 3rd generation, but the fourth is more powerful in every way than the base Sandy Bridge chipset in the X230 series. Heck, it even manages to match my Dell Precision M6400, (primary/daily) and that thing has a big dedicated GPU. In short, performance has been nothing short of as...

Thank you for the information; here's what we know

I noticed this at times in Windows 10, no idea what causes it or how to fix. It does what it wants. You can always just switch to the Windows Classic cursor which is what I use. Thanks to this thread, we know exactly what causes it, which is first-use of the scroll button for the Trackpoint. The go...

Different model, Different OS, Different driver, same problem

Just to add another data point to this, I found that this seems to affect newer drivers as well. Driver version 19.3.4.214 on the fourth-generation X1 Carbon is doing the same exact thing, although it's not as big of a bother on there because it actually has a competent trackpad, reducing/eliminatin...

Seems like a non-starter

1) There was a guy at the Lenovo forums who said he's successfully installed both the Lenovo/Thinkpad 18260 card and its corresponding antennae, so WiGig worked for him. Just look for "TripleX1" posting dated 20-Oct-2016: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Lenovo-ThinkPad-X1-Yoga...

Question on adding WiGig to 4th-generation Carbon

I've been trying out the fourth-generation X1 Carbon lately and saw that models with the tri-band 18260 Intel card support the wireless dock protocol "WiGig." The unit I'm using has only the dual-band, and I wouldn't mind being able to use a dock station, so I was pricing out the options. What I fou...

Cursors refuse to animate on ThinkPad X230

I've been working with this new ThinkPad X230 and am pretty happy with where everything is at now. Unfortunately, I've encountered a weird bug where any of Windows's mouse pointers that should be animated (namely the "busy" and "working in background") are simply not animated. If I go into the point...

Similarity to the old way of doing things

I've been comparing it with the X200, and it does feel different somehow, but I can't exactly pinpoint how. I think that it's got to be the buttons; they do feel more concise on the X200. I do feel even more confident with it now, however, having switched caps from "soft rim" to "soft dome." I was ...

Well, I pulled the trigger on an X230 since writing that post and have had mixed feelings; mostly positive. Not sure where you found one that's "slow and sluggish." The X230 I picked up is far too touchy with the standard driver for Windows 10. I had to actually install the old driver, turn the sensitivity down to its second-lowest configuration, record the registry setting , (I found 7 to be best, while ...

So I recently sold my X230 (non-tablet) and have been trying to find a replacement. This forum should not be used to spread misinformation. Most Windows 10 machines shut down just fine. It's a hardware issue of so...

Okay, this isn't actually a ThinkPad question specifically, but I know we've got a lot of knowledgeable Windows folks here, and the Dell Precision in question is somewhat similar to a comparably-sized ThinkPad  .
