Re: Manjaro Linux with Optimus Graphics.
Be interesting if this translates to AMD ATI stuff - either of these two companies dont like giving out code to their switchable gfx stuff, even though its past 10yrs on some pcs. Manjaro somehow came out of nowhere (apparently) to take the crown from Mint Ubuntu etc. - I suspect everyone will impl...

Manjaro Linux with Optimus Graphics.
Hi folks. I just wanted to let you know that i've switched from Arch to Manjaro (Manjaro i3 community) on my main T540p and there's a specific package for dual GPU architecture in Manjaro Linux (called video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-bumblebee) and it works perfect. (To have the dGPU dynamically switch of...

Re: New ThinkPad series : A series (A285 and A485)
Not to rain on the parade or anything, but aren't AMD laptops kinda run hot ("AMD turned my laptop into a toaster" is the common refrain)? I hear that complaint from almost all my peers who have AMD-based laptops. AMD CPUs were not competitive for ~decade now, both in terms of performance and of po...

You guys are bringing some good points to check prior to purchase. I like that! - Check the display quality - Check if it's only a rebranded E series (if so, extend the E subforum to include A new laptop since the E series will die) - Check if the graphical capacities are decent. Btw what's the diff...

New ThinkPad series : A series (A285 and A485)
Hi folks. Lenovo has been teasing a new ThinkPad lines made with AMD APUs instead of the regular Intel CPU or Intel CPU + NVIDIA dGPU. [censored].
Kinda seems like i'm stuck with 1366*768.
Unless there's anything else that would fit really. 1600*900? Hell i'd even go with non-HD if i could i mean i hate 1366*768 with a passion.

Change screen to lower resolution
Hi folks The screen on my X120e is very horrible; terrible colors, gets dirty very easily, and there are scuffs on the laptop. I also very dislike the 1366x768 resolution, it just messes with my OCD and the content on youtube and the likes always looks terribly scaled on this specific resolution (10...

This is fairly close to my experience too. I bought mine new in 2011. A couple of years ago, something went wrong with Windows Update on Windows 7, and the laptop ran one core full out all the time, with the attendant heating. But a netinstall of Debian with LXDE has made it a very usable laptop ag...

Re: Is the x120e considered a "real" ThinkPad? and the laptop is slow, how to speed up?
I got one last week and tuned in up a little bit. I traded the HDD for an SSD (cheap samsung 750 evo you can get for 20$ on eBay) and installed Arch Linux. Any apps that would run on Windows on that laptop will run much better in wine on Linux. Plus the whole experience feels fairly fast for a lapto...

The title says it all. All i really want is that it works and has ANSI layout keyboard (US Layout is best).
I am willing to pay extra for any accessories you have with the laptop too.
Either reply here or send me a private message. We'll arrange the deal.

Re: 4k T570 screen in T540p
Those are totally different animals... The T540p was available with a 3K screen that needed 4 eDP lanes. So in theory, it should be possible to drive a 4K screen with the 3K cable. The question is: has anyone ever tried? Hi! Sorry for the late reply. I got the 3K screen for a little less than 80 US...

T440s panel in T440?
Hi folks.
I was wondering if a FHD screen designed for the T440s model would fit a T440.
Because the FRU screens for T440 are garbage. It would be a shame to swap garbage for garbage.
What do you say?
Thanks!

Re: T540p power supply question.
Hi all.
To answer my own question (after i tested it)
The T540p refuses to charge if you plug in a 45W power supply.
It will charge with a 65W nonetheless.
Possible that it would refuse to charge with a 47W chip on a 65W power supply.
The more you know!

Re: T540p power supply question.
If you want to check power, you can use a kill a watt. Check the power consumption on the 65 watt and 90 watt adapters. If 65 reads 65+, the laltop draws 65+ watts. The 90 watt adapter should be 10% higher than the actual laptop because of the internal circuitries. Thanks. I'll try to acquire one o...

T540p power supply question.
Hi all. This is a question for y'all electric enthusiasts. I know running a lower wattage AC adapter can be damaging for the computer but i have a question regarding this. I know that all the T540p model ship with a 90W power supply adaptor regardless of the chip's power consumption (35W or 47W). Bu...

Can i fit a ThinkPad P50 trackpad module on a T540p?
Hi. As the topic says, is it possible to fit a P50 trackpad module onto a T540p? I am currently running the T450s trackpad module on my T540p but it does not have the bottom buttons (like i had on T420). I am wondering if i could fit it in. That would be the best because i really wish i had bottom b...
