Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

Not sure if this has already been mentioned (can't possibly remember so many pages) but how about this? a Thinkpad, with 4:3 IPS screen, an Intel Core i7-7700HQ CPU, 32GB-DDR4 and a 256GB PCIe-SSD (2400MB/s read and 1300MB/s write). It is brand new. It is also possible to order a mainboard with a 7...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)

I'm afraid I might not have the funds available for this by next month so just wondering if there is any hope down the line. I think there is hope, but my guess would be that it all depends how many of the ThinkPad 25 will be sold. This is what I'm afraid of. They give the diehards hope for years a...

Re: ThinkPad T23 Arrival

My T23's display is easily the best of any ThinkPad I have (though my T43p needs a new backlight). Colors are significantly better on the T23 vs the X201 and T420. It's my favorite laptop and I use it for real work all the time.

So if the leaked photos are truly the final product, this is just a T470 with a classic keyboard. It took them 2 years to do that?

I use Minitube on OpenBSD on my 15" T43p. It plays at 480p in fullscreen perfectly smoothly. I just watched this video in fullscreen and the CPU remained at 85% idle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEGOihjqO9w Did you use youtube-dl to pull it down? Re: X250 review by an old school ThinkPad fan

Well it's been a year. I have switched back to the X201 and gave the X250 away. There are a few reasons for this, most of which I have talked about already. I never could get used to the keyboard, even after a year. The feeling of the keys was inferior to any classic Thinkpad, but the biggest proble...

Re: Replacement for X220: X260 or E470? Or something else?

I wouldn't bother with a 1366x768 X260, especially for over $1,000. I have an X250 (close enough to the X260) and the FHD display is really the only reason I'm keeping it. The rest of the laptop just isn't very impressive. If a 1366x768 is acceptable for you, a much better option is just to get anot...

Re: Telemetry (spying) now introduced in W7 and W8.x through WU

Doesn't matter what OS you use but your ISP keeps Data of what sites you visit and what you download. In Australia they can keep it up to 2 years. Your Browser and Antivirus company also tracks where you go. If you really want to stop Telemetry spying don't go on the internet. They can not track HT...

I recently installed the Windows 7 Convenience update on a old dual core Dell desktop I have. Install seemed to go well but after the update I couldn't connect to the internet with Chrome but I could with Internet Explorer. A system Image was restored and back to normal. Hmm, this desktop had all t...

Re: X250 review by an old school ThinkPad fan

It's funny you've mentioned it, for our X250 we also used a concave TrackPoint sourced from another (older) ThinkPad model... I've actually been running it like that for a few days now and it's okay, but the scrolling is still a bit choppy. It's better with a concave TrackPoint cap though so I migh...

Re: X250 review by an old school ThinkPad fan

For some reason, disabling it in the BIOS doesn't actually disable it. I'm not sure why. I do still sometimes use it for scrolling because OpenBSD's middle button scrolling is occasionally very choppy. I haven't had time to investigate this either. Then disable it in the OS. In Terminal: synclient ...

Re: X250 review by an old school ThinkPad fan

My hatred for the TrackPad burns as hot as ever. It's just too big, and eliminating the physical buttons makes it more frustrating to use unless you have tap-to-click enabled, which itself is irritating. I wish you could buy this without the TrackPad like you could with the old models. Why not just...

After living with the X250 now for several months, I have a few more thoughts on it Things I thought would annoy me, but don't : Only having 2 USB ports. This is totally dependent on your particular uses, but I have not needed more than 2. Also, the aspect ratio is okay. It's not as good as 4:3, but...

Re: Thinkpad for computer science major

I'd go with an X220 or T420. Plenty of performance, great Linux/BSD support, and they have a great keyboard. If you use vi, the oversize ESC key will be awesome. Personally, the keyboard matters to me more than anything. I do everything on a T42 and T23 because the keyboard is so good. You're going ...

Re: Would you buy a T43 today?

Not surprising as the top freq desktop Netburst P4s with their deep 31-deep pipelines and high clock speeds were very efficient when running code suited to pipelining, but useless as a mobile CPU due to its crippling heat issues. My only real-life with Prescotts on daily basis comes from several hi...

Microsoft's sliminess with W10 has surprised even me, and I have enjoyed a healthy hatred of that company for years and years. Between the privacy catastrophe and all the underhanded ways in which they try to trick you into installing it, this has been Microsoft at its worst, and that's saying a lot...

Re: Not seeing a huge benefit in performance in x260's vs x230's, etc

Not worth it in terms of performance. Battery life will be better and you can get a nicer display on the newer models, but they aren't really faster. Graphics performance would be the biggest jump, but will not be noticeable in most people's day to day tasks.

Not surprising given the cavalier attitude towards adding feature bloat to the BIOS. The BIOS is way, way too complex these days.

X250 review by an old school ThinkPad fan

There are a lot of reviews of newer ThinkPads out there, but none focused on the kinds of things I am interested in. So, for the sake of Googlers, I will share my thoughts on my new (to me) X250. First, the specs of my X250 CPU: i7-5600u display: 1920x1080 IPS non-touch RAM: 8 GB disk: 250 GB Samsun...

Thanks for the review. I actually just ordered an X250, somewhat grudgingly. I have come to accept the fact that nobody makes a laptop the way I want anymore and the X250 is probably a decent compromise. I do have some questions though before mine arrives. Is there any keyboard flex when typing? If ...

Try getting a really cheap battery off eBay or Amazon and see if your problems persist. If they are fixed, then spend the money on a proper Lenovo battery.

But, the drive has run for <100 hours. I am wondering what reliability is because there were issues with firmware (mostly Samsung drives) and power management / BIOS causing data corruption because of improper power handling. I can't speak for the Intel drives, but I have used Samsung 850 Pro and 8...
