Re: T430 9-cell external slice battery advice
Oh well. I put a hard drive in there anyway... I currently have the original 9-cell main battery from 2012 and it still holds more than 50% design capacity (recalibrated pretty recently) so I don't think it's worth replacing yet. My main concern is sourcing. I can look up specs and compatibility but...

T430 9-cell external slice battery advice
I am looking to add a slice battery to my T430. Does anyone have experience to share on buying ThinkPad batteries? What is the situation on used or new old stock batteries? Alternatively, is there any battery available that is better than what Lenovo makes? (ie doesn’t reduce as much in capacity aft...

Re: RetroThinkPad survey #4 of 4 *** FINAL SURVEY **
The Ultrabay has the advantage of size. It allows fitting things that wouldn't fit in an expresscard slot. Shrinking it to the size of just another 2.5" bay would defeat the purpose. I seem to recall some Ideapad that allowed putting a graphics card in the Ultrabay. A long time ago there was also a ...

... would you really trust your presentation to a "very cheap" adapter containg active electronics which "generally" works very well? Yes. And if you think it's a problem, then do keep in mind that the sh*tty VGA cables/connectors and the crappy projectors themselves are about 10 times more likely ...

Re: RetroThinkPad survey #2 of ?? ** the REAL one **
We should all be taking these surveys. Unless it influences design of future TPs then i don't see the point just for a 1 off. Don't think of it as a one-off. Even in the unlikely event that Lenovo doesn't make any RetroThinkpad at all, the survey results could be influential enough to bring back pr...

I think (and this is just a guess) he probably knew it all along. But final decisions come from higher up.RealBlackStuff wrote:David Hill already published this in 2012, WHY the F did he (and Lenovo) not stick to it?

Re: Survey 3 of ?? is up + PLEASE VOTE FOR this forum Aspect Ratio
Well, VGA is close to useless. LCDs are digital in nature. All modern computers have a plethora of digital outputs. The only reason to have a VGA port on a monitor is to connect to ancient computers. The only reason to have a VGA port on a machine is to connect to ancient analog projectors. Given t...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)
I never bought anything tech related on release, let alone on preorder or deposit. Always wait at least a month or two for reviews from real users. I also don't trust the tech journalists to get this right. The journalistic reviewers don't use things long enough for reliability and other issues to s...

This being not just a David Hill, but a Lenovo survey, who knows what the REAL figures are? Lenovo is not always telling the truth, more like they tell you what Lenovo wants you to hear... Case in point: "Why you should give in to the chiclet keyboard" http://blog.lenovo.com/en/blog/why-you-should-...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice (*LARGE PICS*)
Came up with an anti-glare ThinkLight design ("Two ThinkLights, Crossed"). Tested by taping LEDs to the lid of my T430. If David Hill does dual ThinkLights, I hope it would be arranged like this: full size: http://s3.postimg.org/el4vk8hy9/thinklight001.jpg thumbnail: http://s3.postimg.org/3yb2et9sv/...

http://s8.postimg.org/5po4j7foz/thinkpad024.png It looks great, especially since I never use the numpad and so I would just toss it (or not buy it in the first place). I have always typed faster on the number row anyway. Not sure how many numpad users would like it though. Thanks! The versatility o...

Re: Thinkpadders Rejoice
Hi bhtooefr, the Number pad goes in the Ultrabay (retractable just like a DVD drive). The laptop itself is then 18 U wide (342mm (13.5") keyboard, 355mm (14") including bezels) So you could actually make this laptop only 342mm (13.5") wide if you eliminate the bezels but I left them in for durabilit...

Some ideas building on other commenters' in David Hill's blog. http://s8.postimg.org/5po4j7foz/thinkpad024.png Highlights: -15.7-inch 3840x2560 (3:2). -The full PC keyboard. All of it. -Ultrabay Numerical Keypad. -All dedicated buttons. No more awkward Fn-key combos. -Also, dedicated touchpad on/off...

Dream laptop concept 4:3 mod [56k WARNING]
Had some gripes with my T430 for a few years now and looking at later models they are much worse. Last night I found out about the Retro / Time Machine ThinkPad project. So here I am trying to get Lenovo to get back to making a productive work tool instead of chasing thinness/minimalism. The good: I...
