Re: T430 Trackpoint Cap Soft Rim?
I bought some; they fit well and felt OK. They may not last as long but at their price and quantity - who cares? However, the problem with third party products is that you have no idea what you're getting because it's all unbranded and standards are unknown. One time it may be a great product, anot...

T430 Trackpoint Cap Soft Rim?
I lost the original Trackpoint cap on my T430 and would like to try the "soft rim" version instead. Any buying advice? Seems the Soft Rim has been discontinued by Lenovo. Are third party manufactured caps any good? They seem to be available in 10 and 100 packs for about the same or cheaper than sing...

Re: Non-"s" 2560x1440 QHD WQHD - any news?
If I hadn't already built my T430s with the javi-jie wqhd kit (that I enjoy very much) I'd order this for my old T430 in a heartbeat. Now that the screen options are equal, the only practical advantage a T430s has over T430 is the slimness. While fatter and slightly heavier, T430 can take big...

Re: W530 SSD too small
Old thread but if anyone else is considering this, the mSATA slot on the **30 series maxes out at about 250MB/s. So if you use it you're basically giving up half the speed.
So use the 2.5" slot first if possible.

Making an offer on the e-qstore listing. Looks like it's LVDS.
I don't know how they get around the LVDS bandwidth limitation, maybe using 18-bit color instead of 24-bit.
We shall see...

I did the 1920x1080 FHD mod a few months ago but it still isn't quite enough pixels for me. Any updates on the 2560x1440 ("QHD"/"WQHD") mod for T420/T430 Non-"s" availability in the U.S.? Last I checked there was: 1. Apparently soldered kit made by 51nb member KingKongLue (who also goes by K.K) but ...

Use WSUS Offline Update. It even has shell scripts that let you download Windows updates in Linux for offline deployment.

Re: Needed equipment for hardware ROM flashing?
Thanks so much! I've eventually gotten the laptop taken apart and read the BIOS chip into a rom file with the Raspberry Pi. The T430 needs to be almost completely disassembled to get at the motherboard. I am working on removing the Intel ME/Intel AMT. Corna's me_cleaner looks pretty self-explanatory...

I would like to get started with flashing BIOS firmware. Need something reliable, able to backup the original and flash it back in case of a bad flash. It appears this merely runs a Linux userspace inside of Windows 10. Therefore, W10's automatic updates and telemetry would still be fully active.

Re: T430 9-cell external slice battery advice
Oh well. I put a hard drive in there anyway... I currently have the original 9-cell main battery from 2012 and it still holds more than 50% design capacity (recalibrated pretty recently) so I don't think it's worth replacing yet. My main concern is sourcing. I can look up specs and compatibility but...

Alternatively, is there any battery available that is better than what Lenovo makes? (ie doesn’t reduce as much in capacity aft...

Re: RetroThinkPad survey #4 of 4 *** FINAL SURVEY **
The Ultrabay has the advantage of size. It allows fitting things that wouldn't fit in an expresscard slot. Shrinking it to the size of just another 2.5" bay would defeat the purpose. I seem to recall some Ideapad that allowed putting a graphics card in the Ultrabay. A long time ago there was also a ...

We should all be taking these surveys. Unless it influences design of future TPs then i don't see the point just for a 1 off. Don't think of it as a one-off. Even in the unlikely event that Lenovo doesn't make any RetroThinkpad at all, the survey results could be influential enough to bring back pr...

Well, VGA is close to useless. LCDs are digital in nature. All modern computers have a plethora of digital outputs. The only reason to have a VGA port on a monitor is to connect to ancient computers. The only reason to have a VGA port on a machine is to connect to ancient analog projectors. Given t...

This being not just a David Hill, but a Lenovo survey, who knows what the REAL figures are? Lenovo is not always telling the truth, more like they tell you what Lenovo wants you to hear... Hi bhtooefr, the Number pad goes in the Ultrabay (retractable just like a DVD drive). The laptop itself is then 18 U wide (342mm (13.5") keyboard, 355mm (14") including bezels) So you could actually make this laptop only 342mm (13.5") wide if you eliminate the bezels but I left them in for durabilit...
