Re: NEW LOOK TO THE OLD FORUM..

I don't like the new look. At all. Way too bright and shiny, and not in a good way IMO. Having everything that was on the left now on the right is also not something I'm thrilled about. Makes reading and posting more difficult IMO. The functionality of the forum itself - now that the bugs have been...

Re: NEW LOOK TO THE OLD FORUM..

Overall I am seeing much fast loading times and the theme is appealing to the eyes.

I think it will just take time however to get use to the author's info on the right instead of the left. I see this as being the biggest challenge for me.

Overall though I think it is an improvement! :thumbs-UP:

Re: Advice needed on very first laptop to own

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experience, TankPad and teamde78! I will spend USD600 max to get my first Thinkpad. My preference on screen size is >=14". Mobility is to be considered because I will carry laptop in backpack while travelling by motorcycle. Is W520 too much to carry around? How ...

Re: [REQUEST] Dark(er) theme option for the forum

As a workaround, you can install a "night mode" type of addon in chrome or firefox to automatically invert or change the color/contrast of pages. BYM is super lightweight and good for firefox, although it disables multi process. Deluminate for chrome is the BEST extension/addon regarding night mode...

Re: Advice needed on very first laptop to own

Hi there, welcome to the forums! :D

I would second TankPad's suggestion and not recommend a Frankenpad. I would definitely recommend the W520 or T420 (again depending on the screen you want).

Pretty disheartening. The trackpoint is one of the classic Lenovo features that I enjoy using. Pretty sad to see the overall direction Lenovo is going in.

Re: [REQUEST] Dark(er) theme option for the forum

I am usually a dark theme user on many forums that I visit (as well as software programs that have a "darker theme" (Mac OSX and Visual Studio 2017), however I greatly enjoy the current theme on this forum. I feel it is very easy on the eyes and it gets the job done nicely in my opinion. Nothing wro...

Re: Post your desktop.

Here is a general shot from my Thinkpad T60 Type 2623. I know its typical Win XP shot but I mainly use this PC for legacy applications like visual basic 6.0 and Starry Night for stargazing (not a big fan of the modern software). One particular note about this machine is that I swapped out the US key...

Definitely interesting to see the similarities and differences between the last few "classic" Thinkpads.

Very nice! I am a huge fan of the international large "enter" keys. I managed to pickup a used UK English keyboard from a friend over there about a year ago, and I always enjoy typing on it on the old T60.

This is a new looking T510 i7 model I picked up in August. This is my Win 10 learning computer. I don't do much on this system. It is in better than good condition, bordering on new. Must have spent a lot of time in a computer bag. I upgraded it to 8GB of memory and a Smart Card reader which I stil...

Re: Is XP too unsafe to use?

Linux is the way to go, especially for older machines. Super customizable, fast, secure, free (personal use), no need for AV, easy to use, and the list goes on. The only downsides are that gaming is not supported well, and some specialized apps like adobe Photoshop are not available. However, there...

Re: W7/SP1 Windows Update stuck checking for updates

Mine fixed itself but I dont know if its because I just let the HP System update tool install all the stuff it think it needs. I suspect its because the base hardware under the HP is a pain while my Dell is much more mainstream. The whole thing seems very complicated, why can't Microsoft just make ...

Re: W7/SP1 Windows Update stuck checking for updates

Just wanted to update, that this did work for me. The latest July Rollout update made checking for updates take less than 3 minutes.

Just wanted to point out thought, that it did take 30-40 minutes for the KB i linked above to install (not sure why).

Just as a follow-up: - I did get the add-on USB Cardbus card for general USB use. Works very well - Took out the 60GB SSD in the X40 hoping to install Linux on it while connected to an adapter. Eventually scrapped this plan as I was not too sure about voltage levels of the SSD (3.3V?) and the adapt...

The two updates that Puppy mentions did the trick for me. It (w7) now scans for updates in a few minutes. You Still need to watch out for "updates" that are nothing but w10 or telemetry nonsense. Click on the more info when looking at an update and it will open up the ms KB page on your default bro...

Instead of FPR it has the security card reader.
might be interested depending on wear. Can you send me pics (lid, keyboard, palmrest, and other Significant damage). I'm a big fan of these early W series machines.
