Re: Dead T61p -- What motherboard?
The boards occasionally pop up for cheap ($30-70) but often they are more expensive than buying a whole new t61p, and pulling the board and any other good parts from that.

- 15,4" T61p mobo in 14,1" T60p (some rework with the case, and moving the storage drive. No ultrabay) Do you have any more information on this mod? Do you think it would work in a 15" t60 with the 15.4" mobo? the 15.4" mobo is waaaay easier to get and also includes double the graphics memory so I ...

Re: Those that have gone quad core + Nvidia graphics...
I ise a QX9300, with a 256mb FX570m. If you can get a QC cheap, its worth it. I dknt use it on battery, nut performance is far better than any other processor. A T9300 or T9400 cannot compete. The cooling can handle the processor, but don't except to run prime95 and furmark without the machine gett...

Re: Last call before i trash my T61P...
I still say the easiest solution is to get a for parts T61 and transfer all your gear over from the T61p. CPU, display, memory, NIC card, SSD/HDD, keyboard, palmrest and flash Middleton bios. Easier than doing a motherboard replacement and you won't have to worry about the GPU issue. to say a mothe...

Re: Those that have gone quad core + Nvidia graphics...
Instead of wasting all that time and money, just install Middleton's BIOS and get a T9300, best bang for your buck! No need for T500 fan either, T61p fan will do great. I've only done that at least 50 times or so, while building FrankenPads. As for the time, this whole thing is a hobby, so the time...

So I got an unexpected good deal on a "fixed" nvidia 570m board, so now I'm looking at my motherboard as a lot less disposable than I used to... I'd like my machine to be very very quick. I'm basically looking at only these three CPU's. T9500 Fastest drop in T9900 Fastest 35w TDP part or QX9300 Fast...

Re: Last call before i trash my T61P...
Maybe i was not clear enough. The fact is that my T61P is a great machine, it has all upgrades, 4Gb memory and with windows 7 on it. Now the system board is broken i try to find out if i can fix it. Somewhere i cant say goodbye to it yet.. To fix it i need another system board that will fit almost ...

Re: Last call before i trash my T61P...
Just saying if you change motherboard chipsets and expect XP to boot no problems, you are almost always disapointed. This statement I would view as valid, but - as I've stated above - it doesn't reflect what was being discussed in this thread to begin with. Does a T400/T500 use same RAM, battery an...

Re: Last call before i trash my T61P...
Can someone tell me more about the supposedly "safe" nVidia chips on 2008-era planars? What exactly did they change to prevent failure? New chip from nvidia with defect corrected. Those planars are VERY hard to come by though. I gave up. I could take my chances 5 times and still spend less on an ea...

Re: Last call before i trash my T61P...
It is based on the fact that windows OEM keys are locked to the motherboard. We are not in the desktop world with this discussion, which is why I said: What kind of empirical ThinkPad-related data are you basing these statements on? The absolute worst that can happen - and that's presuming one is r...

If i can be sure my mobo is dead i just write the machine off.. and start search for replacement. Does a T400/T500 use same RAM, battery and drives? Would a newer type work when i push my current HDD in? Thanks in advance What version of windows? Windows xp is terrible at surviving a motherboard sw...

Re: Jumping into a Frankenpad
Welcome to the forum. All I can say is you really must like your T60. That is an expensive price list of supplies for such an old machine. It's not even my t60. Mine is a 14.1". I got LUCKY on ebay and got a near mint 15" for cheap. must have spent it's life in a dock or something because it's in m...

Jumping into a Frankenpad
I've loved my trusty t60p for years but it's getting a bit sluggish. I looked into adding some pep and fell down the rabbit hole. I'm looking to go pretty big here. http://i.imgur.com/0hH1Qb5.png Questions: 1. Will this CPU work on this merom board? Which the the best modification guide? I found a ...
