Price check on X2[2\3]0 Frankenpad w/ extras

Hey all, Looking for a price check on a decently-specced X220/X230 Frankenpad (or modded X230, whichever you like), with included goodies. i5 3230M 8+4 GB RAM (config 1) / 1x8GB RAM (config 2) 256GB Crucial BX100 SSD (config 1) / 500GB spinning drive (config 2) X220 lid w/ IPS display. 2 29++ (9-cel...

Re: X200 w/ X200s lid?

Yes, that's one way to go, an X200 with a complete lid from the X200s/X201s with 1440x900. It's a drop-in exchange. It's way too complicated to swap out a screen, especially since they can come with CCFL or LED backlight. Alternative and highly recommended: contact forum-member Edward Mendelson who...

X200 w/ X200s lid?

I'm looking to get an X200, and I wanted to install a higher-resolution display in it. I learned that the X200s has a 1400x900 display, but I found some conflicting (confusing?) info about the viability of the swap - replacing inverter cables or something of the sort. So, in order to clear things up...

X220 flashing display; faulty cable or motherboard?

Hello, haven't posted here in a while. My X220 recently started flashing its display in different colours. This happened when I scrolled through webpages or documents - see here . I've tried everything to fix it (formatting and reinstalling, updating SSD firmware, updating and reflashing Coreboot, r...

Here's a little comparison of IPS vs TN in the X220 I like to share: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8MO-XaCZ_8

Re: Two configurations for X220- advice?

Batteries: if it's a new 9 cell original Lenovo battery versus a generic battery bank, I would take the original battery, the original battery would be about GBP 70 versus GBP 20 for a battery bank. RAM: if its 1x 4 GB versus 2x 8 GB, I would be fine to add another 4 GB module myself as these are r...

Re: Two configurations for X220- advice?

Figure out which exact models these are. If one of them has an IPS screen - it would be a crucial factor in my book. The condition of the batteries is also important, but you probably can't know that in advance. 4GB of RAM is very borderline these days, so that's a plus for the 16GB model. They're ...

Two configurations for X220- advice?

Hi, I'm selling my T400 and buying an X220 instead. There are two configurations, which will cost about the same so I need a bit of advice. Config 1: * X220- Core i5 (don't know which model), Crucial BX100 256GB SSD, 16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM ( exact model here ). * 6-cell battery * This battery ba...

On the task bar, an "up arrow" pops a small panel. One of the icons represents a USB plug. Click. The CD ROM should be there as an ejectable device. There's another aspect that I've completely forgotten about- the browser being used. I read up, and apparently Chrome/Chromium are real battery hogs. Will something like Midori be a good substitute in terms of battery life?

I really would like an X220. However, the X61s still does what I need it to do. The X2** series may have more processing power but (for my usage) inferior screens. For what you describe as similar to office type usage? Yes. The 4:3 screen is superior IMO if you're doing one thing at a time. I've al...

Thanks so much for the detailed answer! Since I am going to be using the machine for three years, and I was accepted into a programming class, I'll go for the X220. I really would like an X220. However, the X61s still does what I need it to do. The X2** series may have mo...

Re: Replace T400 with X61?

I have both machines, the X61s variant. The T400, which uses the 45nm Penryn with vanadium doping, is much more efficient. At idle, the power consumptions are similar. Under load, an X61s gets hot fast. So you can't expect comparable battery times. Under light usage -- text viewing on the web, and ...

Re: Replace T400 with X61?

I'm not certain that X61 - presuming a T7*** Merom CPU which are the most common ones in there - will give you the battery life that you're looking for. These machines are hot-running and not in the least power-efficient. X61s - if you can find one - would be a better choice IMO. With all of that s...

Re: Replace T400 with X61?

It will be fine. Quite expensive, though. I'm fairly certain that if you were to post a WTB (want to buy) ad in the forum's Marketplace you could do better. It's not like shipping is going to be terribly expensive for 2 DIMMs. My concern about the X61 would be the condition of the battery given the...
