Re: T60 battery needs charging light on

If at full charge the light is amber, that means the battery's full charge capacity is significantly depreciated. See: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/migr-62718 Your battery's full charge capacity is down to 5-20% of its original design capacity. You can run HWMonitor to check your batte...

Re: T42p with R52 ATI board

R50 and T40 series boards are the same.

Only conflict arises if the R50 board has a firewire since there's no firewire hole in T40 chassis. Or if you put something else into an R50e, since R50e chassis is missing holes for certain ports (eg. S-Video, docking).

PC3L-12800s worked fine in my T520 but did not work in my T500. However normal PC3-12800s worked in my T500.

At least it would have a Trackpoint and the screen looks 3:2. The disappointment is that they won't build a 3:2 Thinkpad now. (or will they?)

Re: T410s screen with T420s?

The normal T410's screen is too thick to fit in the slim lids of T420, T430, and their s suffix versions. T410s screen is probably thin enough but it's not a nice screen.

Re: T410s screen with T420s?

Try to check if the pinouts are the same. You might be able to plug it in, but the screw hole positions in the lid will be different. The T410s Toshiba screens are also pretty harsh looking, need calibration, and commonly develop vertical line defects. At least they are bright. The T420s HD+ screens...

Re: Recycle Bin R500 (MTM 2714CTO)

Compared to T500,
R500's lower base plastics may be less resistant to impact damage, and where it's weakest is its lid. I would not lift the R500 by its lid, while the T500 is "safe" to lift that way.

For any sort of games I'd recommend a W520 or newer.

Reborn T420 pictures (with T410)

Awhile back I acquired the bottom case, frame, and planar of a T420. It had an i5-2520m in it and hooked up to a monitor I confirmed it working. I plugged in a keyboard, T410 LCD and a TV and had myself a home theater T420 halftop. The cyan tint problem was just the analog video being dumb. The T410...

Re: T61/R61 motherboard confusion

I don't see the point in putting a 15" R61 board in a 15" R60 unless 15" R61 motherboards are, for some reason, easier to find than complete 15" R61s.

I upgraded from a T42p to a T500 since July 2015. I chose the T500 because, as others pointed out, the 16:10 screen. I also appreciate the classic ultrabay and keyboard. T500 replacement parts and system boards are also incredibly cheap. My laptop is nearing 8 years old and a W500 in my care just ki...

Are the Dell and HP "Trackpoints" also made by Synpatics? Perhaps you can install the Thinkpad Synpatics drivers on them, like some people in the past have installed HP Synaptics drivers on their Thinkpads (I tried it on my T500, it worked) as a means of gaining two-finger scrolling for the Touchpad...

Re: Remote security exploit in all 2008+ Intel platforms

I understood that the exploit is for certain versions of Intel ME. T410 and T420 use different versions. Montevina (T400,T500) uses an older version that I presume doesn't have the exploit.

1. Starting with the T61, Lenovo's T-series Thinkpads don't seem to fit so snug. The T40 design is one of the best in the regard of sealing shut. I noticed the same thing too moving from T42 to T500. 2. Up to you to decide. The non-backlit KB has the rough texture we know and love, granted it's not ...

Re: What exactly was the R series trying fit?

R-series was built of different plastics to make it cheaper. I recall R60 series was all ABS, like the Z-series, unlike the T-series that's built of metal alloys. Also in the R50-T40 gen, T-series had some magnesium frame pieces in its base while R-series used plastic parts instead, for example in t...

Re: Newbie with a question

The 900p screen is a very minor upgrade over 800p, just 100 more vertical pixels. People generally like higher resolution, so if you can get the 900p affordably you may as well aim for it. When picking a T410 screen in my opinion you should pick based on manufacturer. Stock LG and AUO are better loo...
