Re: LCDs on T60/T60p - types, availability and other discussions
wanted to share my anecdote that the particular 13N7046 Hydis HT14P12 i pulled out of a 2005 T43 did not have EDID and looked really dorky in a T60.

Re: R60e IPS upgrade question
T60 is a nice laptop, nicer materials than the totally plastic R60. The thing with T60 is a lot of them had the SXGA from the get-go, so you likely wouldn't need to get a new one unless the one originally equipped is severely worn out. The SXGAs are indeed very cheap but I would encourage taking the...

Re: Go Retro! IBM ThinkPad T60
vxkex was unreliable at tricking programs to install, when i got FF 124.0.2 installed it didn't work due to 7 missing some metro ui dlls. So im sticking with ESR for now, still viable for awhile. Also did the SSD upgrade since that hard drive was slow as hell. I could tolerate it back in XP days and...

Re: R60e IPS upgrade question
Those 15” sxga feel dim to me (dimmer than XGA) and then there’s the annoying jaundice the lg panels develop. Curious if the r60e celery can take a fast pentium M? I have a 2.26 dothan doing me no good, could basically make an R50 that doesn’t desolder itself if the swap is possible.

Go Retro! IBM ThinkPad T60
https://i.postimg.cc/k6F9NsZd/IMG-4157a.jpg I could have taken this photo in 2007, or 2002, given that a T60 serves the same basic appearance as a 600. Essentially this build aims to reincarnate a snapshot of my childhood, the part with IBM ThinkPads, Windows XP, and the Internet. Thinkpad T60 type...

Re: WTB ThinkPad with 4:3 And XGA preferred
Aye, ive got a 800p T500 next to the XGA T60 and the t500 is a lot nicer, even in its ccfl variants the typical widescreens were nicer quality than the basic 4:3s. But there is an unreplicable charm to the 4:3 format which keeps bringing us back to the t60 and x61 and like. They’re obviously unusabl...

Re: P70
I was in a bind between upgrading my sister out of her 3 drive T430 into either a W540 or P70, i decided on P70 for the much better cooling system and I/O. We bought an optical drive HDD adapter, it is 9mm or Slim height, on aliexpress, we got one for P70 with the right rear mount and plastic cover....

Re: WTB ThinkPad with 4:3 And XGA preferred
I have some 15” T60 and a 14” T61 with a T60 board in it, all at present have the SXGA but i could swap in a respectively sized XGA. They all have some old laptop issues with nonworking fans and bad cmos batteries so it’d be awhile before they are “sellable”. There’s still lots of T60 and R60 on USA...

Re: Two ssds in x230?
Integral seems a reasonable brand to me and the specs say it is an MLC drive which is in theory better for longevity. Could still be a dud but I’d encourage trying a fresh install before writing it off. Windows 10 installer off a usb iso can finish under 15 minutes, without network access it’ll be t...

What do you mean by ghosted? Cloned? Some programs do this better than others with respect to alignment. SSDs will perform worse if they’re not aligned.

I encountered a funny behavior with the modified x330 BIOS, it’s probably already well-known in the mod community but I didn’t know about it so I’ll share it here. Switching the BIOS to UEFI Only CSM off for Secure Boot breaks the USB brightness control and counteracts the BIOS-level disabling of th...

Re: Two ssds in x230?
L14 sounds great to me. still used sodimms too. Only downside is LCD resolution tops at 1080p, there’s a good chance the motherboard is not provisioned to support higher resolutions as Lenovo has done in the past with other budget models.

A legit SATA to PCIE would be cool since cheap NVME drives are more populous and modern than mSATA. But the ebay image looks like it’s showing a B-key slot which is SATA, not PCIE. The aliexpress one appears to correctly be m-key for pcie.

Re: ThinkPad T540p external graphics card gpu - is it possible?
You can get yourself an expresscard EGPU kit and try it out. I’ve had GDC Beast and found them unreliable and annoying, but when they work they’re alright, good for older games at FHD or lower resolution, it’s nowhere near as good as a desktop, although p1000 is weak enough it might not be a meaning...

Re: Two ssds in x230?
There are two other ways to put more storage in an X230. 1. Get an ultrabase and ultrabay SATA storage adapter, usually 2.5” but ngff versions also exist now. Downside is you have to be docked. 2. Get an expresscard to m-key NVME adapter and a short 2242 or 2230 NVME SSD. Downside includes expressca...

Re: would thinkpad ips adapters work on other laptops?
Did you plug the adapter directly into the Dell’s lcd cable? The adapter’s input connector is reverse-direction or upside-down or pin-inverted from a normal LCD connector, plugging directly into any normal LCD connector will destroy the adapter and possibly the LCD and the laptop.

I think the universal kits are either built without the inverted connector (connectors are 180 degs opposed instead of 90 degs like in T420/30(s) kits), or a special inversion board is included, ive seen it both ways.

Re: 2560x1440 T520/T530/W530
All those laptops’ LCD cables have the same pinout, so a single adapter board will fit any of them. The 900p LVDS panels use a 40 pin cable supporting dual channel LVDS which is sufficient bandwidth to support 1080p. There is a large contingent of edp 1.3 standard 1080p LCDs that are similar enough ...
