Re: What exactly was the R series trying fit?

R-series was built of different plastics to make it cheaper. I recall R60 series was all ABS, like the Z-series, unlike the T-series that's built of metal alloys. Also in the R50-T40 gen, T-series had some magnesium frame pieces in its base while R-series used plastic parts instead, for example in t...

Every Thinkpad with the classic keyboard also has the obscure "integrated-numpad".

Re: Newbie with a question

The 900p screen is a very minor upgrade over 800p, just 100 more vertical pixels. People generally like higher resolution, so if you can get the 900p affordably you may as well aim for it. When picking a T410 screen in my opinion you should pick based on manufacturer. Stock LG and AUO are better loo...

It is pretty amazing. This forum has been invaluable to me. Now my 15 year Hitachi travelstar w/ Windows XP has finally kicked the bucket and won't boot past the Windows screen... at least I think it's the drive, not the computer, causing the problem. I'll try to save what I can from it, then I'll p...

A31 no post - 4 4 beep codes point to Security Chip?

I got around to taking my two A31s in for service. Disassembled both, scientifically tested parts from each, put together a desirable model with a working GPU, screen, 2.0ghz P4M, 2GB Ram, built in wireless. One machine was losing its date and time so I pulled the CMOS battery and replaced it. Now o...

I believe Intel Speedstep can be further disabled in the Thinkpad BIOS. If you're using Windows you can also lock the processor's speed to maximum with Windows power options or Lenovo Power Manager.

Does the R60 have a uniquely positioned Firewire port, between the left vent and VGA port? Does this interfere with Frankenpadding?

I apologize for an error I made in my statement. Non-original batteries work in that they discharge fine in a **30 gen machine, and it recognizes them and takes power from them, but it will refuse to charge them.

Re: Why are T430s batteries so pricey?

It's because of the EC firmware battery whitelist. You need a marked 70+ (6 cell) or 70++ (9 cell) battery for T430/T530/L430/L530/W530 and an 81+ battery for T430s. Older Lenovos or generics won't work unless the EC is modded to delete the battery requirement. I always try searching with the FRU nu...

Re: SSD PCIe, M-sata and T400 + T500

Actually the newer Thinkpads Sandy Bridge and newer (t420,t520) do have Msata Sata 2 3GB/s lanes. But not the older ones. For my T500, I've considered buying a $15 Chinese mini PCI to SD card adapter to try in my T500's WWAN slot, but I worry that the speeds will be slow so I've refrained from purch...

Re: SSD PCIe, M-sata and T400 + T500

The internal PCI slots are specialized for specific devices: wwan card, turbo mem, or wireless USB and don't have Msata lanes. Possibly with a non-whitelist bios or pins taped over you can install other things like PCI to SD or USB adapters for additional storage.

Check out this Lenovo thread. Someone had a T400 Bios flashed on their W500.

Are T400 and T500 Bioses secretly the same?? Should I try to find a no-whitelist 7VET94WW Bios for T400 to install on my T500? Why even are they different? :??:

Re: installing memory question

In this chipset Slot 0, the bottom slot, needs to have memory in it or the computer will not boot. In practice it's more practical to put the bigger stick in the lower slot so if you upgrade the smaller ram in the future you don't need to remove things unnecessary. I don't think it matters otherwise.

Intel AC 7260 Mini-PCI version, or a contemporary version from Atheros.

I do not think soft rim looks like a rubber dome at all. Rather the soft dome looks like a rubber dome.

This is a golf tee and the top of it looks like the soft rim: http://img.clipartall.com/golf-ball-on- ... 2_1300.jpg

Re: T61p starting automatically *VIDEO*

If the laptop forgets its CMOS settings it will go through a few power cycles to set things up. It does similar things when rebooting after a bios update. Under the circumstance of not having a CMOS battery, it is normal for it to start by itself upon receiving AC adapter.

The W510 and T410 series are the last of its breed to have this 16:10 LCD aspect ratio. Actually, T510 and W510 are already 16:9. And there is only a 3.75mm difference in vertical height between 15.6" 16:9 and 14.1" 16:10, meaning the W/T510 have practically no more physical height than a T410 and ...
