Re: 2560x1440 T520/T530/W530
I recall attempting to use the Nvidia control panel to force custom settings but the options were locked out, this being a W530. I also never took the machine out of Optimus mode. Possibly in the BIOS/EFI Dedicated mode it could behave differently, and CRU may function? There was one time I tried CR...

Re: X32 Battery Maximiser / Power Manager issue
T4x uses a completely proprietary meter for volume (scale of 0-14) and brightness (scale of 0-7) while T6x does not do that. this switchover happened between T60/R60/Z61/X60 and T61/R61/X61 models. Concurrently they switched to Conexant audio without Stereo Mix recording. The older models' Volume a...

Re: R.I.P. modded but unfisihed T43?
spurred by your x32 thread in fact, I did fan repair on my t42p to get going. there's a couple ways the aluminum fan housing is fixed to the copper heatsink, either riveted or friction fit. My "original" (which may very well have already been a replacement) was the rivet variant, and the fan develop...

Re: X32 Battery Maximiser / Power Manager issue
well you were right to question me, you were right that the features should be there. my t42p running XP has Battery Maximiser (unsure of the version), it's not like power manager it seems rather deeply integrated into the OS, i recall the gauge runs off a rundll32.exe. but anyway clicking on the ga...

Re: X32 Battery Maximiser / Power Manager issue
I’ll try to resuscitate one of my t42s with a win 7 and power manager and see if it can do the threshold and reset. If it can’t I’ll assume the cutoff is at the z60 which, pm915 aside, uses the 20v chargers, cs05 dock, edid, and sata by design, it’s for all intents and purposes the slowest lenovo th...

Re: X32 Battery Maximiser / Power Manager issue
Neither maximiser nor power manager on my a31 can do thresholds, I think the feature just doesn’t exist. I don’t remember if I could set it on t42. My z60 can do it but it’s basically just a slow t60.

Re: Which cheap wifi/bluetooth combined card should I get for my bios modded L520?
Dud cards exist, if it’s cheap enough you can buy multiple and have redundancy. My experiences with 7260 and bootleg AX210 are neutral, they seem to work fine, I don’t have experience with the bluetooth functionality since i don’t use it.

They're different, see this thread: https://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=120142 For future reference, T520/W520 palmrests are not compatible with W530/T530 models. Thinkwiki was incorrect with the 15.6" models. There are numerous additional plastics around the bottom of the trackpoint area th...

At this time w540 needs a hardware flasher to physically remove the whitelist, and there is some disassembly required.

T450s, definitively with the -s suffix, is a more premium model over regular T series so I'd go for that.

Re: Thinkpad T61 Hinge Wobble
A small pointed knife has been my most effective tool for the screw covers, they can have good survivability and can be re-used. I just refurbed my old T500 with a “new” left hinge since its original was 100% slop. I don’t know how I survived using it like this. Even with the “new” hinge it has abou...

That is the truth.
All it takes is the official EC flash for any t470 board to adapt to the 7 row.

I think the idea is folks can DIY it. When I tried sourcing parts for a simpler t470 conversion I couldn’t find a power button cable , so unless I’m missing something obvious it takes sacrificing a 25 to build a frankie.

I strongly recommend stay away from XP unless it will never connect to a network and will never store serious data. 7 in my unprofessional opinion can be viable, so long as you be vigilant, get it updated, use the latest TLS you can, use some real antivirus/antimalware (i like Kaspersky and the Malw...

Q: Does A31 Have A Lid Close Switch?
Does A31 have a lid-close sensor? Mine doesn’t seem to have one, or it does and it doesn’t work. Since it predates T40/R50 which had the mechanically operated switch, and I see nothing like it on A31, does it just not exist?

Does anyone know was IBM's PC business already losing money by this time? I know A-series became unprofitable which is why it got replaced by G-series which as we know was outsourced (save $$$). Then T40-R50 being the same planar on the inside is an obvious cost-save. Maybe lower capacity cells is a...

the core 2s are a lot slower at web browsing, and the machine to be replaced is not even a core 2 but a slowed down pentium. the graphics are assuredly bad. i would look at dual core sandy bridge as the oldest generation still pleasant for web browsing. i did very well with i5 2520m T420 which i use...

Re: WTB - NOS/Grade A+ 15" T60 Flexview Display
I was able to use UXGA IDTechs pulled out of 2005-build T42p and R50p in T60 and Frankenpad, they had EDID. I haven’t torn out my 2004-build panels yet to check them, or looked in my stack of dead-backlight Flexviews, but if it’s a 2005 it’s worth trying. I have 3 LG Philips SXGA flexviews from T60 ...

They’re still a good bit faster than Core 2, graphics and SATA throughput are better as well for a comprehensively faster experience. Even arrandale felt a good but snappier than my T500 back when that was my primary machine (and going further back, T500 left T42p in the dust). https://technical.cit...

Haswell will be massive speed upgrade over Core 2. My father who watches facebook too much went from core 2 to Ivy Bridge (generation before Haswell) and he is satisfied. Even Sandy Bridge would have met expectations. My opinion is 8GB RAM is still sufficient but ddr3 is so cheap maximizing the capa...
