Re: Lenovo, the thermal paste goes on the CPU.

The factory paste dries up in a few years. Every T500 I received around 2015 needed a repaste, by then they were 6 or 7 years old.

Re: T400 Fan Error

T400 does not come with SLIC 2.1 in its BIOS.

I've searched extensively and there is no available modded BIOS with a SLIC 2.1 included. You need the SLIC marker tool for T400, which is available with this download: http://rgho.st/38017698

Re: Micro$haft starts nagging W7-users soon about support-EOL

Windows 7 is a perfectly capable operating system with less redundancy, intrusion, and reliance on the cloud than 8 and 10.
And will remain so until people and companies stop developing for it.

Re: Is the X220 Internal HDD Caddy compatible with T420, T520? Same question for the Ultrabay.

X220 has a 7mm bay.

T420 and T520 have 9mm main bays.

You can put the 7mm caddy in the 9mm bay in but it won't fit right and might flop.

You will be able to browse decently with a lightweight browser called Slimjet. No other browser worked for me on my Pentium M ThinkPad Z60m.

Re: Memory type on T410

Memory speed won't matter. PC3-8500s, PC3-10600s, or PC3-12800s, they'll all run at 1066 mhz. Any 1GB or 2GB stick will work. For 4GB only Dual Rank, 2rx8, with 8 chips on each side will work. Single Rank, 1rx8, with 4 chips on each side does not work under any circumstances. This tends to preclude ...

Re: W510: What is the maximum RAM supported?

Actually W510 with a dual core is limited to a max 8GB of RAM. The dual core CPUs of that gen are Arrandale which is limited to a max addressable 8GB of RAM. More than that and the operating system will crash when trying to access more, even if the initial increased capacity is recognized. Think of ...

Re: Do R52's have any collectability value?

T40 and R50 lineup is also susceptible to Southbridge and GPU detachment from board flex. The next generation's T60 and R60 are dual core, making them leaps and bounds more usable today, and have native SATA ports. One generation after that, the 3GB RAM limit is surpassed. Two generations, and you'r...

Best get yourself a new T500 or W500 magnesium frame.

T500 and W500 are the same laptop except for the graphics chip, and even then the Radeon 3650 and FireGL V5700 perform exactly the same.

Re: x230 - How to verify a battery plug works without a battery, is it even necessary?

I'd check for physical damage to the battery connector, with none present it's probably fine. Internally, the charging circuit can be destroyed if the laptop tries to charge a dead battery for a long time - but ThinkPad batteries are designed to trip a killswitch on themselves when they die, that te...

Re: Why I don't bother with a Smartphone

I have an old 2014 smartphone, LG F6 D500. When the buttons on it broke in the rain, I bought the replacement F6 for $23 on eBay. No need to drop hundreds on a new smartphone every year when the cheap old one does the job. I use it primarily for calling and text.

I do pay monthly for data tho. :?

T520 is known for the crappy sound. I don't think it is the speakers so much as the audio amplifier. To the best of your knowledge, is this true across the entire **20 lineup? What about **30? I have noticed the poor speaker quality on T520 and T420. The T410 speakers were louder. They both use Con...

Both T410 and T410s have 9.5mm height Ultrabay.

12.7mm vs 9.5mm divergence only occurs in subsequent T420 and T420s, T430 and T430s models.

T420 has enlarged Esc and Del keys. T60 has all black trackpoint buttons. T420 has wider trackpoint butto...

That's the correct battery, yep.

It's still better to find a used OEM (Panasonic is the best) than any Aftermarket IMO, they're just not to quality especially with longevity. If you get an Aftermarket and recell it with higher quality cells, you'll have something worthwhile.

Some T500 have the same keyboard as the T61p with the solid backplate. Others, indeed, have the new lightweight perforated version. Later models compensate for it with a modified support structure. Aside from marginally faster CPU and RAM, and the fact that DDR3 is cheaper to max out at 8GB, T500 do...

8GB to 16GB upgrade, noticeable speed boost?

Someone on eBay listed a screen cracked T420 with 16GB of RAM for $70 so of course I bought it. Throwing in my T430's old HD+ and flipping it should net me a few coffees. With knowledge of the MTM at the top of the forum page you can try and find a T500 with the Radeon 3650, it is the same performance wise as the W500's FireGL V5700. I had a W500 and the double VRAM didn't make a difference in my experience.
