Re: Why do people keep going back to Thinkpad?

Screw the multimeter, get a breakout board and hook every pin up to an Arduino. There is a program that will get the pinout simply by pushing each key down. You'll be done so much quicker. Can you link me to that? https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Make-a-USB-Laptop-Keyboard-Controller/ This s...

Re: Why do people keep going back to Thinkpad?

I've already opened up a 701C keyboard. I can post pictures of the matrix. I'm not sure I can figure out the matrix with just pictures. It's best to have the keyboard at hand and use a multimeter in continuity test mode to verify. Screw the multimeter, get a breakout board and hook every pin up to ...

Should all be similar construction. The 755CE/CX batteries were a total pain. Be careful and you should be fine.

Re: rebulding few batteries

99% percent of batteries were designed to not leak/explode at all costs. So....your choice is basically to pry open a glued/sonic welded explosion proof case. Your not getting it open with out damage(unless your talking the battery for the Zenith Supersport or FMA3300 series machines, in which case ...

Stick a small piece of rubber or foam in there and I wouldn't worry about it. The connector/friction from rubber inserts generally do a good job keeping the drive in place.

Yeah that is legit. No clone would go out of their way to not just clone the Lenovo logo, but update it to the new one. Wouldn't surprise me if this was one of the last 44 cells made.

Re: Why do people keep going back to Thinkpad?

I have a Sharp and a Tandy that did that BIOS thing. Really seemed neat at first until I realized that I believe with all 3 most settings will require a reboot to take into effect or immediately reboot anyway. I have a TI laptop(some later Tandys/Panasonics did this too) where you have to use a DOS...

My 0.2c to 701c ;) Old ThinkPads have good BIOS with all things in place: PM bios for older systems + ACPI for newer and EC that do all this work. All this things works right till T60 era :( may be this is Lenovo's BAD thing may be this is due transition to dualcore processors ): And what about 701...

You pop up the little latch up with your finger, put the drive in(I believe label side up), then push the drive forward until it seats properly with the connector, then push the latch back down. See...no manual needed. :D

Or the fact that Thinkpad are made to meet military standards where other brands don't brag about this? Did we totally ignore the world of the Panasonic Toughbooks? BoeHydis wasn't the first to screw up LOCA!

Everyone remembers the loca bonded bubbles disaster of the HV121P01-101 panels. Well apparently they aren't the first to bond the glass right to the LCD, nor the first to get air bubbles in it. Apparently tubes from the 60's had this problem too...but I guess a non polarized glass surface is easier ...

Re: Why do people keep going back to Thinkpad?

Get this slander out of my board In all seriousness, the 701C was designed as an ultraportable. Many of those issues you listed are because the machine is now 24 years old True, but even back then it wasn't great. My dad had one...for two weeks. Then got rid of it and went back to his 360C. Re: Why do people keep going back to Thinkpad?

For me, it's the aesthetic to some degree and the modularity the rest of the way. I really liked the designs (oldest to newest) of 701Cs, PC110, 760XL, X61, X250 so far. The latter three also encouraged a lot of DIY projects over these last few years, so that was fun to work with. Did I mention the...

1) They are definitely less common then their 450/500Mhz counterparts, but not a unicorn. I'd say probably one every few weeks or so. Usually need to look for the specific type number as the Mhz is almost always listed wrong or not at all. 2) I believe people have and it works at full speed. 3) here...

That's what I was looking for, thanks.
Good thing on the T480 is you can run on internal battery only if you don't need to use it, i.e at home. The bulge is not comfortable when using the laptop on your lap
Umm...you can get a slim 3 cell for it so that the battery is flush with the bottom.
