In case you are wondering why the noise sounded like a hound, it's because I am using Puppy Linux, and the test sound is a so-called Woof.
Does that have any relationship to your username "olddog"? :D

Two drops of super glue will solve your problem. Just enough to keep it on there but not enough to make it impossible to remove.

Somewhere on this site there is an excel spreadsheet you can download...it has the same database as that site except the excel search takes forever and a half to do compared to the other site.

But better read this: https://dankpads.com/2018/08/19/thinkpad-x1-carbon-2012-to-2018/ Wow, this is a great resource. :thumbs-UP: To me the most important change was in the X1C5 when the footprint and weight were dramatically reduced. X1: FOR: HDMI port and 2.5" HDD/SSD. AGAINST: HD-screen only. Needs 90W charger. X1C1: AGAINST: X1C1-specific SSD that nobody seems to sell anymore. It also does not fit in any other laptop, BEWARE! X1C models...what's the difference and what should I get?

I'm debating an X1C and really a bit confused on which model I should go for? So far this is what I'm thinking X1C1: I prefer the dedicated volume keys on the keyboard...but how slow is the ULV 3rd gen processor and how is the HD+ TN panel? Is it better than the T430 and T430s HD+ panels? X1C2: ew.....

Ouch. I took one of my 4338's apart to do the same because I didn't like it blocking W520. The only issue I had was some stupid spring that insisted on being free... I would have tried glue though in this case. I have even glued the bearings in a bicycle wheel beause the hub had worn out, still goo...

Well thanks a lot guys for unfogging me around these models. The *540 are the first Thinkpads with alphanumeric keypad as far as I recall. Re: Thinkpad thermal paste quality, re-paste needed?

Run a benchmark to fully load the CPU and GPU(for me, thats heavyload and unigine heaven). If the temps get above 90C, it needs a repaste. Cracking the CPU is extremely rare and really a repaste job is nearly impossible to screw up if you be careful and follow instructions. Likely, you probably don'...

T430 1,2,3 keys dead

The 1,2,3 keys on my T430 died out of the middle of no where. It was the span of maybe 20 minutes, first it was the 1, then the 2,3 keys. Re: How to store 'new' batteries?

Well, a 65W PSU had enough juice in the past, but still. And recall that we are discussing an X230 here, not a modern ULV offering. In any case, although I have no concrete evidence that modern Thinkpads throttle anything without a battery installed, running any laptop without a battery is just dum...

If you want a dual HDD/SSD in an X61, just get a WD Black2(squared) drive.

128GB SSD, 1TB HDD, 1 9.5mm drive.

Re: Is an NVMe SSD (theoretically) possible on an X61?

Theoretically, maybe. But even if you did, it would require reworking the socket and then what are you gaining? Even if the nvme drive ran full speed, it's a core 2 duo when all is said and done and that will be the limiting speed.

You should leave it in the laptop. Most ThinkPads are not designed for optimal performance unless a battery is installed.
I think this is mostly a relic of the past given a 45W adapter has more than enough wattage to power a ULV CPU powered TP that most are nowadays.

I'd rather put them on rotation than keep them in storage and hope they keep their capacity.
Well for "storage" I'd open them, top up to 6
~60% and monitor them down to maybe 30% and charge back up to 60.

Re: Windows 10 Now Require a Minimum of 32GB Storage Space -- April 2019

One of my clients has two Lenovo N22 mini-laptops with only 32GB SSD/eMMC soldered to the system board-- they're practically Chromebooks with Win 8 bolted on. An in-place Win 10 upgrade is impossible. They have to use external HDDs to shuffle documents in and out because the free space is too small...

Almost nothing used parallel or serial in 2006-2008 and if anything that did need it was likely connected through a dock or a USB to serial adapter.
