Re: List of (postclassic) Thinkpad models and quick recap in here ?

Well thanks a lot guys for unfogging me around these models. The *540 are the first Thinkpads with alphanumeric keypad as far as I recall. That's what I started to figure indeed. The **40 series had atrocious buttonless trackpoint/clickpad combo. It was so bad that in the next generation (**...

Re: Thinkpad thermal paste quality, re-paste needed?

Run a benchmark to fully load the CPU and GPU(for me, thats heavyload and unigine heaven). If the temps get above 90C, it needs a repaste. Cracking the CPU is extremely rare and really a repaste job is nearly impossible to screw up if you be careful and follow instructions. Likely, you probably don'...

T430 1,2,3 keys dead

The 1,2,3 keys on my T430 died out of the middle of no where. It was the span of maybe 20 minutes, first it was the 1, then the 2,3 keys. Keyboard has no water damage or dirt in it, hadn't been turned on in maybe a week or two before using it to find the keys dead. Is there anything I an do except r...

Re: How to store 'new' batteries?

Well, a 65W PSU had enough juice in the past, but still. And recall that we are discussing an X230 here, not a modern ULV offering. In any case, although I have no concrete evidence that modern Thinkpads throttle anything without a battery installed, running any laptop without a battery is just dum...

Re: Is an NVMe SSD (theoretically) possible on an X61?

If you want a dual HDD/SSD in an X61, just get a WD Black2(squared) drive.

128GB SSD, 1TB HDD, 1 9.5mm drive.

Re: Is an NVMe SSD (theoretically) possible on an X61?

Theoretically, maybe. But even if you did, it would require reworking the socket and then what are you gaining? Even if the nvme drive ran full speed, it's a core 2 duo when all is said and done and that will be the limiting speed.

Wow I think your T60 just turned into a Slot Machine and you won all 7s  Ok now seriously, that an error I haven't seen before. 4by3 now THAT is an interesting trick.. have you done it..? finding just the right device might be tricky.. :) I have not but given just about anything in the light-grey to white will glow brightly under a blacklight, I'd figure its work a shot. You should leave it in the laptop. Most ThinkPads are not designed for optimal performance unless a battery is installed.
I think this is mostly a relic of the past given a 45W adapter has more than enough wattage to power a ULV CPU powered TP that most are nowadays.

I'd rather put them on rotation than keep them in storage and hope they keep their capacity.
Well for "storage" I'd open them, top up to 6
~60% and monitor them down to maybe 30% and charge back up to 60.

Re: Windows 10 Now Require a Minimum of 32GB Storage Space -- April 2019

One of my clients has two Lenovo N22 mini-laptops with only 32GB SSD/eMMC soldered to the system board-- they're practically Chromebooks with Win 8 bolted on. An in-place Win 10 upgrade is impossible. They have to use external HDDs to shuffle documents in and out because the free space is too small...

OK, I stand corrected (again) ;) T510 has 16:9 LCD T410 has 16:10 LCD Hehe, the first time I opened up a T510 I found , I'm like that looks too wide. I go to Thinkwiki and like, no that can't be right. The xx01/xx10 series was all 16:10. Must be a sticker swap. Took a few PSREF sheets to get it int...

4. For medium/low workloads, I personally prefer to work with T410 for its 16:10 LCD screen, for its classic 7-row keyboard layout, and for its classic keys (non-island type).

Almost nothing used parallel or serial in 2006-2008 and if anything that did need it was likely connected through a dock or a USB to serial adapter.

As for the keyboard, it doesn't seem to be genuine Lenovo product either. Post a WTB (want to buy) ad in the forum's Marketplace and pick out a real one, preferably from 60/61 series that don't sport a "swiss cheese" back panel. Happy ThinkPadding! This discussion includes both widescreen and non-widescreen T60/T61. this thread may also apply to R61 series. Consequently, you'd also have to include: R60/i/e R400 (same battery as widescreen T61) T400 (as above) T500 W500 Z series ThinkPads of the 15.4" variety (Z60m, Z61e/m/p) I have very littl...
