Re: T440 - Over Torqued Screws?

Hi all, I recently purchased a refurbished T440, it's been a great workhorse running debian. However, I have been hitting issues where I've been running low on RAM (Slack + Chrome + VSCode), so I wanted to try to put another DIMM in it. However, when I tried to open it up, I found that the screws w...

Not true.
A friend of mine has a 15.4" R61 with W7-Pro and runs outdoor BT speakers off it, using the BT-II module from the lid.
Next time I see him, I'll ask for details.
A T41 card and a R61 card are two completely different animals.

Thinkpad 220

I was wondering if anyone had any info about the Thinkpad 220(NOT X220), the AA battery powered 386 I think and where I could get one.(Also, can they have a American Keyboard but I highly doubt it)+

I don't know if this is supposed to be in Marketplace or the Legacy section.

Re: The mystery of FRU 08K4986

Is that a 240 in the second picture? Negatory, that's a TransNote (one way to tell is due to the capslock being integrated on the left shift). I've always wanted a 240, though. But then I have way too many thinkpads as it is, and DOS and 9x gaming are best with a CRT and OPL3. Id like a TransNote b...

Re: The mystery of FRU 08K4986

Just take one keycap off, and examine the underlying switch. All 3 manufacturers have pretty distinct switches, AFAIR. Well on the T6x keyboards, all manufacturers had very discreet switches, and sometimes for the T43 series. But when it came to the T40, T41, and T42 there were a lot of variances o...

Thinkpad LCD cables.

Some of the TP cables used a flat flex type and others used a round cable through a "gutter". What were the advantages and disadvantages of each and why did IBM & Lenovo use both types seemingly randomly.

Can you set the resolution to just 1280x720? If yes, does the LCD scale it to fill the entire screen area or not?
TPs have had screen scaling built in since 1995. The last laptops were Compaqs pre-'96 which couldnt screen scale. Also, what about windows scaling?

There goes my dream for an SXGA/QXGA 61 X/T thinkpads.. :( If I ever do find one, do you do the whole removal + LED installation? It goes against my DIY ethic but experience shows that knowing your limits is more important than hoping to get stuff done right. By the way, what are your thoughts abou...

NO, NO, NO!!!!! Parallel port floppy drives are the biggest waste of time. The Compaq's have special circuitry to rewire the parallel port to an internal floppy. The Thinkpad will not have it any may possibly fry it. A PCMCIA floppy is worth a try, but likely not work. You will want a dock it and u...

The 365XD has a connector for an external floppy drive, but according to this Thinkwiki page , it's specific to that model and different from the 760's. If you already have an external floppy drive for the 760 (with a removable cable), you just need the cable for the 365XD. No, I just have a floppy...

If your discrete mobo is a used one, it should already have a matching discrete MTM in its BIOS.
No need to modify that.
And a label maker can solve the MTM on the bottom of the machine.

Why are you trying to use a P3 in 2018 to browse the web? Thats the first problem. Without SSE2, performance will be abysmal at best.

Another note compraing 15.4" T60-T61 series to T500, the T60-T61 can use the SHARP WUXGA displays with no problems, while the T500's misinterprets their EDID as LED screens and has wrong brightness steps.
Can you EDID flash them?

So I'm sure most of you have noticed or are aware of the trackpoint adaptation. When you gently push the trackpoint in one direction for more than a few seconds, the trackpoint recalibrates itself to make that the center point. When you let go, the cursor will move in the opposite direction. This i...
