Why not get an Ultrabase. It is a battery but with extra ports, a DVD drive, and your charging port.

Re: If you've ≥5 computers, do you use them all or feel guilty?

Yes many forum members can relate to that and I am personally turned off by much of what Apple represents. Apple in my eyes is fashion / hype and consumerism. Other than that they aren't as sturdy as Thinkpads and anything that doesn't have a trackpoint isn't a real laptop in my eyes. YMMV Yes, but...

Did you mean bricked instead of locked? Locked usually means a lost PW, while bricked is what I recently did to a T500 while attempting a BIOS flash... AKA FUBAR'd  That is not FUBAR'd. This is FUBAR'd. https://farm1.static.flickr.com/54/115528753_7295eb939a_m.jpg F***ed Up Beyond All Recogni...

Re: Tin foil in IPS screen replacement (LP125WH2-SLT1)

Honestly, if it seems legit, just test it outside of the machine. I would be cautious with an AliExpress screen, but it isn't AliBaba screen so you have slightly less worry. If it was Alibaba, I would call Homeland Security to take it away  . Don't take it off. It is likely connected to ground ...

It is one of the 7 deadly sins of Thinkpad users  .

A Thinkpad a day keeps the Apple away, and therefore you might need to see the doctor more often :D .

Re: A31 is still usable.

Either you surf only very light websites (no scripts, no flash, no videos), or your definition of "quite well" is skewed by not having a modern, fast computer around. The difference is quite shocking, and after using a C2Q 3GHz or any Core i system, going back even to the T60 C2D 2GHz is a pain. I ...

Windows 7 should so nicely. Windows XP is a bit outdated but perfectly useable.

A Linux distro like Ubuntu or Mint will also suit well. Depends on your preference. Try them all out and find one you like best.

Re: Is a T43 good for programming?

Welcome to the forums, It depends on your programming. If you do some Java, C++, etc. that requires little hardware needs and just needs a screen and keyboard, then you should. If you are doing more intensive things like 3D programming, stay clear. The T43 will not have enough power to do that. If y...

Re: T430s usb 3.0 dual DP dock and DP to Dual DP adapter, can I drive 4 monitors?

Yea, but the problem is that those displays are run off the CPU and if you don't have a sufficiently powerful CPU or are doing tasks that really CPU intensive, you will start having problems, especially over that many displays.

Construction is nice. The hinges are beautiful and extremely tight, good TP hinges. Pretty solid machine. The plastics are quite flexible and strong like they should be unlike the 701C. The keyboard: the feel is AMAZING. Beats a TP NMB keyboard anyday. The problem is that the rubber membrane that de...

Re: Have you joined the 3:2 club yet?

Sexy flat and thin bezels may be wooing everyone here tired of their Thinkpads but my preferred screen size is 15.4" WUXGA. I would argue that out of the "conventional" resolutions WUXGA is likely the most productive one by default for a person with average eyesight, be it on 15.4" or even 17.0" LC...

Magnavox Metalis 286. It's older than Thinkpads.

This is a Magnavox Metalis 286. It is a crappy computer from 1990. It was cheap then, and it still is. It still is an interesting machine none the less. Unsuspicious black baggie. https://i.imgur.com/LkIOy7p.jpg Hmm...a Magnavox Logo...Not your usual brand. https://i.imgur.com/F1PYof1.jpg It is a 28...

Re: 500 series Sata-II fix?

SSDs can make a surprising amount of performance come back to a computer. I tried W7 on a T42 and it was unbearably slow. I added an Ultrabay SSD it actually was quite snappy though web performance was as good as you would expect, awful.

Re: So Who Actually Ordered?

Proper rollcages were gone long before 2013... Yes, the "proper" rollcages were long gone. I've replaced the W700 motherboard and I think about 50% of the weight goes to the solid chunk of metal. I opened up a T430s and found magnesium parts in there. An **40 machine is like the T4x machines, witho...

Re: So Who Actually Ordered?

Yes it was going down hill, but it still had a magnesium rollcage. It still had a 'black' rubberized coating, not this grey flat junk. Still had the composite plastic stuff. It still had full voltage CPUs that were replaceable in most models.

2013 marks the date we lost all of that stuff.

Re: So Who Actually Ordered?

Likely price. A new X1 carbon can be loaded up pretty much a little over 1K. The X301 loaded up cost about 5K. Not many people wanted to pay the premium so they gave them the new Thinkpads because they were cheaper and more relate-able to the market share. Cost cutting measures: 6-row was easier to ...
