...but the TrackPoint only has two buttons and its an old version that isn't fixed... Trackpoint II isn't bad... and I bet a small piece of software could simulate negative inertia without too much of an issue. Third button? Well that can always be modded in given a bit of time and effort...oh yeah...

Re: Replaced screen with IPS now grey bar

Seems like one of the bits isn't working in that section but definitely a faulty LCD. It is too localized to be a GPU or LCD cable error. Used to get similar errors on my IPS swapped X240 with its broken LCD panel. Replace and try again or see if the LCD is getting pressure at all in any spots but d...

I am wondering whether there's a particular form of masochism that exhibits itself in one's preference for post W7 MS operating systems... Lol...thats probably why I am using W10 right now...and sometimes want to program simple algorithms in assembler...etc. You are probably dead on right wit...

Re: What mods can be applied to stock T420?

You will have to check the hardware manual to see if a card reader was an option on this machine. I donÄt think the case size is quite the same as the T520, but it may still be configured the same internally under the palm rest. There is some slight cutting away of supporting ribs on the underside ...

Once I clear out 20-25% of the hard drive, and do those mods, it will be significantly better than new.
Hardware wise..

That is also dependent on how roughly your sister treats her machines. :)

Re: Can a T420 charger power an X1 Carbon?

I'm very interested in portability. If the 45w charger lets me use it abroad, that's great. I had the option to buy the slim 65w, but it was literally twice the price, and twice as long to ship. If insurance covers my 45w purchase, I might also purchase a 65w slim charger to test the difference. I ...

Yeah, that sounds about right, at least to a degree. I hated 80s altogether, not just the music. On the other hand, 90s brought a lot of stuff that I did like. Go figure. Didn't like the 80s....but liked the 90s? That's not something I hear everyday. But interesting nonetheless. I'm a generation be...

Sometimes I wonder, how these tests are being carried out. For example I have never seen a Thinkpad T61 with firm hinges, they are ALWAYS wobbly. If they properly tested those things, there is no way they could have passed those tests. I mean those hinges start to develop a play literally within a ...

Well this machine draws 6W-8W vs the R31 which under load is likely north of 60-70W

The battery's were not designed to last long. The W700/W700ds are huge machines with a lot of power.
I believe my Q9000 W700 got around ~2 hrs practically idling with the MaxBright display cranked up.

Re: Can the T60 read 64GB micro SD cards with a usb card reader?

The 64GB card is an SDXC card, in which is possible it isn't supported by the OS depending on what OS you are using but likely that cheap reader wasn't designed for high-capacity SDXC cards.

Re: Can a T420 charger power an X1 Carbon?

45W might be pushing it a bit...but its a 17W processor not 35W. Add in 5-10W for the screen and maybe an extra 5 for everything else...Thats around ~30 watts to power the machine. That leaves 15 for charging the battery.

Should be fine...would recommend a 65W though.

Re: Can a T420 charger power an X1 Carbon?

The X1 is basically a T430s with a lower power CPU and my T430s would run fine on a 65W brick. The Thinkpad has built in protection circuitry...it will tell you if it needs more power. Don't worry about it...65W is fine for the X1. You might not get fast-charging...but you are not bottle necking the...
