12V from the battery or 12V from the outside? I wonder if it isnt sending the "smart data" so it is complaining.

Re: No CMOS battery !
If it wont run off the battery, thr main battery might supply the CMOS power. I havent seen that since 1989 but is possible from the non-removable nature of the battery.

Re: Questions about an old 760ed Thinkpad
Ok, you need to know a bit about thos machine. It is from 1996 and it will never run anything remotely modern. Even Windows XP wont run. So you are stuck with 95 or 98. Maybe Puppy Linux will work, maybe not. Not sure. You coudl get a CD-ROM drive from this forum or if you have a floppy disk or two ...

Um, it isnt considered retro by todays standards though. It is a late Core 2 Duo. I'd say a good 5% of the market uses Core 2 Duos. 1/4 of the users on this forum daily a Core 2 Duo, including me. It isnt old if it cant be deemed too old for modern software. Anything post-2000 isnt retro/post SSE2

Re: Retro Thinkpad T61p Build! Warning PICS!
Thinkpads have always looked like black boxes. It isn't retro at all, just that's how they look. Retro is a throwback to times that have changed, but Thinkpads haven't changed. You wouldn't call a clock with hands retro, neither is a Thinkpad.

The rules for the board are no me than 50K on normal boars per pic and a max size of 800x00 for PDA and dial up users. The rule is from 2004 but it is still the rules. The mods will take down your photos if you dont act now.

Re: LF: T43 "MODs": SATA/MB & UXGA/Display ...
IPS AND LED are talking about two different things First, a bit of tech stuff. A LCD is made up of two parts, the panel and the backlight. It works by shining this light through the glass which has the pixels. TN and IPS are types of the glass. IPS is known for its superior angles. LED and CCFL are ...

No, just the inverter I think. The LED mod was made for the T60 series machines. I could probably get an inverter PCB manufactured in the US for a few dollars a board.

Objection, Your Honor! That UXGA-link is for a LED-mod, which ONLY applies to 15" T60 and/or R60/R61. T43/p can NOT work with such a screen. When there is a will there is a way. WTB: 386 laptop
I'm on a hunt for my 'dream machine' a 386 laptop with some specs and my efforts elsewhere have been fruitless so I figure maybe I try here. 386-486 16-40Mhz. Maybe a 286 I could consider. Brand doesn't matter. IBM, Zenith, anything. Preferably a B+W STN display. If it is color I'll still look at it...

But my IBM 5151(actually a PGS Max-12) monitor is going to get burn-in!
I always let my machines go to sleep when left alone, I wojt put a screensaver on them because RBS is right. nVidia chips have enough problems, why work then for nothing?

I'm running this ultra-light weight distro that happens to support many modern prgrams and plays very nicely with old computers. It is Windows 98
Haha. Just kidding. I run Ubuntu on my test machines but I will never use it on a daily driver.

Re: Bench Supply from a PC PSU
Find the PSU feedback chip that monitors the outputs and make a new voltage resistor divider to raise the 12V to 15V. Perfectly within the rectifier output voltages. I did this to power a toshiba notebook years ago. Cheers, thinkpadcollection I could place a pull up resistor on my left mouse button...
