Re: Just missed the TP forums and discussions.. been few years since my last TP went sticky kaput

With regards to memory undervolting, I only know of one case: in a Thinkpad X220, where DDR3L (1.35v) ran at the regular DDR3 voltage of 1.5v, apparently caused it to run hot and cause intermittent RAM errors. So the owner modified the system board to reduce the RAM voltage to 1.45V-- though it was...

On a side note, is it possible to BSEL overclock a T9300/T9500 to run at a FSB of 1066Mhz on a W500?
It will lock at multiplier X6, i.e. both will run at 1.6 GHz.

Can't you manually manage the order in which they are drained so that effectively you use the ultrabay battery to swap between multiple larger batteries? Wait until the main battery discharges by the required amount, then insert the ub battery and use that to swap the main battery with a fully charg...

By the time the W520 / W530 came out there were dual and quad core versions of them.
Starts with W510, which annoyingly also switches to 16:9 so stifling frankenpadding.

Also, can the middle connector be used simultaneously with the left one (ATA)? I have an HDD adaptor there.
You can see how this is handled on the 15.0" T60 interposer card.

Alternatively use a dock (2504) and retain your UB hdd adaptor.

Good work. The keyboard retention screw doesn't pass through the planar and requires a better solution than omission to preserve the famed keyboard response characteristics, but you're well on your way. :)

Re: Under construction: R61p

The thing is that you can't tell one from another when you type on it in terms of base thickness. I wouldn't want to discourage anyone from getting an R61(i) because they thought they would have to adjust their typing due to a "thicker" base. As said, I've typed on them side by side for an extensive...

Re: Under construction: R61p

The problem with the 14.1" T61p is that I've yet to see a post 08/08 manufactured machine, I don't think any were produced. I have once seen a photo of a planar with a post 08/08 GPU, but that's it. The correspondingly dated 15.4" machines and planars, while still rare, are obtainable. So reliabilit...

Re: Under construction: R61p

No, it clearly uses the 14.1" T61p planar which has the 128MB vRAM FX 570M. The mod process is no different from that of the common T601. The 256MB vRAM GPU mod is a different kettle of fish.

Re: Under construction: R61p

Your link to the 15.0" T60(T61p) has the 128MB vRAM FX 570M, not the 256MB version. There is a big difference in difficulty, especially if you retain full ultrabay functionality.

Re: T60p 2007WUK - Toast motherboard

You can get a 15.0" R61(i) -- gives you a much better CPU (T9300/T9500), up to 8GB RAM and won't run hot & loud. No discrete GPU option though. You can swap the LCD panels when you get time. You can minimize the downtime by first swapping the panel into a 15.0" R60 lid at your leisure, then swapping...

You can take the keyboard from the T60, put it on top of the newer laptop keyboard while switched on and try typing on it. Repeat the exercise with just the base, having removed the lid. It won't work. The laptop keyboard is not disabled so the keys will get depressed. The T60 keyboard/base has no s...

The 08/08 production date cut-off refers to the thinkpad production date which can be seen on the base sticker -- NVIDIA started addressing the GPU problem in early 2008 but not uniformly at all it's production facilities and did so quietly, at first not acknowledging the problem then blaming everyo...

Yes the simple adapter won't work with the spacesaver II keyboard, the alternative might -- some do, some don't and even the brand alone is not an indicator. If you've flashed the 1.24 BIOS then the observed behaviour is correct. If your BIOS has a 2 before the decimal point and you press the <ESC> key when booting and (a) the machine boots with a T8100, then you haven't flashed Middleton's BIOS properly or (b) the machine doesn't boot with a T8100, then...

Re: R61i (8932-AEG Frankenpad) memory speed, Bluetooth and LCD

The 15.0" R61i has the best screen options -- SXGA+, UXGA and QXGA flexviews (IPS). You may be able to get used instances of the first two relatively cheaply. It is not the screen bezel plastic breaking that is the problem, but the hinge that has broken. That can either be fixed by the judicious use...

Re: WTB: X61 T9300/T9500 motherboard or X62/X63 motherboard (UK)

If you were to OC the T9300 like that it would run at 3.3GHz with a 6M cache, it is expecting a bit much given the X61 form factor. Without any mod it is better than the T8100 overclocked, it has double the cache and both cores can run at 2.7GHz (dual-IDA) and there are no complications with overclo...

Well done. It is not (currently) how I use my W701 or others, so I can only proffer some vague recollections. Re: Lenovo has *FINALLY* returned to 16:10

Resolution is more important that aspect ratio. Higher resolution can make a lower aspect ratio screen more usable, it does not alter the deficiencies of 16:9 relative to the higher aspect ratios. You can calculate the ratio of screen area to lid area (take a look at the X61), the horizontal screen...

Multiple shader and core frequencies are set in the VBIOS, largely accounting for the performance difference wrt the two 14.1" NVIDIA chipped boards and is the reason you can overclock the NVS 140M more.

Both the 14.1" board VRAM amount and bus width are half that of the 15.4" T61p board so the performance suffers in comparison despite both having a Quadro FX 570M and the same model designation. They do however share the same VBIOS, largely accounting for the improved performance over the similarly ...
